New Month-New Beginning

Friday, March 01, 2013

I am happy to report that i am starting this new month 2 lbs lighter. I would of like to lose more, but I am also happy with the 2 lbs. It's been a crazy month, as goes my crazy life...lol... and seeing that i am an emotional eater...well, to have lost 2 lbs is a very good thing.... yes, i had to work at it...i had to learn from past mistakes and rethink how i was doing it... and basically had to push my reset button... again again and again :)

Happy March :)

What Will You Save

Wednesday, February 27, 2013

I grew up watching Richard Simmons when he was on TV...does anyone else remember that show?? lol. I know, I am showing my age! I love his enthusiasm...at the end of each show i remember he would have a little sit down and ask the question, "what will you save on when you lose weight?" There were always some good answers...junk food, soda, fast food, buying smaller clothes, etc...i always wanted someone to say shaving cream cuz your legs aren't as big...lol...don't ask my why i have this random memory, but i can remember waiting for someone to say it after each show...and nobody ever did...lol. I do know that toilet paper would not then nor now ever be one of the answers...lol... i think i am doing somewhat good with going pee every hour (sorry, tmi)...and that's just with my normal 8-10 cups of water a day... and coffee of course...but they say you should be drinking half your body weight in ounces...so if you weight 200 lbs, that is 100 ozs...that is a little over 12 cups... and uh...i weigh more than 200 lbs...so i need to drink more than that...i would need to drink just over a gallon of water...and have been hitting pretty close to that...but that also means...yea...see above...lol. I can tell you for sure what i am not saving on!!! emoticon

Yup, I watched Richard Simmons too - can't knock him for his enthusiasm. I still have his dance video and occasionally put it on. What I'd like to do is collect his DVD's which I think are available - when I get some extra $ - I can wish can't I!

I too have read that you should drink half your body weight in water, but on the other hand my kidney specialist advised I shouldn't exceed 13 cups/day and that includes all my liquids not just water so best to check with your medical professional first as I was actually drinking too much.

February Challenge-Crock Pot Recipes

Friday, February 01, 2013

Ok, We have been talking a little about our crock pots on the team Flylady Sparkers, so I put a little challenge out there for both team Flylady Sparkers and Losing and Playing. I want everyone to start adding their favorite crock pot/slow cooker recipes into the SP recipe data base, then come here and post the link to it. This in turn will give you the nutritional break down, but also help us out with new recipes to try :)

First, I would like to explain the difference between a crock pot and a slow cooker for those that may not know the difference. Both cook foods over a long period of time, ranging from a couple hours to 8 to even 10 hours. The crock pot cooks at a higher temp than the slow cooker. The crock pot is also usually digital, so you can set it to go off at a certain time. I have both, and love both, but I tend to only use the crock pot when I am home since it cooks at a higher temp. Also, since it cooks at a higher temp, more liquid is needed since the higher temps will make the liquid evaporate.

Here is the link to the Spark Recipe database:
recipes.sparkpeople.com/home.asp

If you are on one of those team's, please go to the challenge under the challenge forum in that team. If you are not part of one of those teams and would like to join us, feel free to join a team, we would love to have you :)

I wasn't aware there was a difference either. I just checked my new one, and it's brand is Crock-Pot: the original slow cooker. I wonder if they know the difference. I have noticed that it cooks hotter and dries out faster than my other one; which I now assume is truly a slow cooker.

Didn't know there was a difference between a crock pot and a slow cooker. I have a very old one which was called a crock pot originally and a larger newer one (only a couple of years old), both have high and low settings, but no timer and neither is digital so I don't know what I have by your definition. (I purposely didn't get digital with the new one as experience has taught me the more bells & whistles the more that can go wrong.) My older one is indeed an original crockpot by name when first purchased (at least 30 years ago), but I can't remember what the new one is called - I got it because it has a much larger capacity.

Tried Something New-Truvia

Thursday, January 10, 2013

I love to try new things, new foods, new places to go, etc. And with my renewed goal to eat better, well, one of the things i want to cut down on is my sugar intake. I love oatmeal but I love my sugar on it...a lot of it!! I have tried many different things, some work but just not up to par with my love of pure sweet sugar. So I had gotten some Truvia for free and decided now was the time to try it. All i can say is, i'm glad it was free...yuk emoticon I would almost rather have sweet and low...almost...i don't normally eat artificial sweeteners anyways... so, i guess for now, my sugar sweet oatmeal is back on the shelf for the occasional treat and not a normal breakfast item. But the good side...now i know...Truvia YUK! lol.

My daughter likes to put Stevia in her tea. I haven't tried it. I just put a couple spoonfuls of brown sugar in my oatmeal.

Thanks for the info. I haven't tried it yet, or stevia for that fact. Usually I turn to spices like cinnamon and fruits/veggies I find to be sweet and see if it adds enough.

emoticon...you'll find a replacement that works for you.

Try stevia. Truvia is not natural stevia. They add stuff to it.

I know how hard it is to curb that love of sugar, but it sounds like you are off to a great start by referring to your sugar sweet oatmeal as only an Occasional treat and not a normal breakfast item. I used to consume all those highly sweetened processed foods, and even added more sugar to those. Awful! Now I don't even put sugar in coffee.

WTG with your renewed goal to eat better! Good luck!!!! emoticon

My New Year's Goals

Wednesday, January 02, 2013

This is New Year's Resolutions Week (gee, imagine that...lol). What were your resolutions? Mine is to read my bible through this year and to lose 12 pounds which is only 1 pound a month! Trying to keep it manageable..lol. Also to devote at least 5 minutes to cleaning and decluttering each room each day. And last but not least, to waste less (food, money, etc).

Congratulations on making reasonable, sound resolutions, all very doable. I like your 5-minute a day for decluttering. A little bit of time devoted to one chore will go a long way. Good luck with the 12-pound weight loss challenge!! emoticon
