When Adults Are Not Supervised By Their Children

Sunday, March 29, 2009

It was a mom's go wild weekend....lol....We went and got our hair cut and styled, and i got my eyebrows waxed...we then went back to the house for a cup of coffee before picking up dd1 for school...after dropping her off, we went and got our manicure and pedicure... every one warned us that the pedicure would be addicting...we doubted it though...neither of us like our feet touched...we learned...aaaaaaahhhhhh...it is addicting...and...both of us have ticklish toes...lol...who would of thunk it. we then went to a root beer stand for lunch... on the menu...cheeseburgers and fried mushrooms...that was just the start of our downward spiral to spending money and eating way too many calories...it was then off to the hotel about an hour away...it was at the point where we were just 10 minutes from our hotel that mom realized i did not have my coat...and i knew exactly where it was...the nail place...luckily they know me well there and they would hold on to it....we checked into the hotel, took our stuff up and then off to some shopping... first the goodwill...wohoo!!! no kids to whine and all about us...we then noticed a farmers market right beside goodwill...so off we went...they had such good prices...and all off amish farms...with amish farms comes amish food...the breads, the cakes, the cookies, the candy...and oh...the fudge...we got our goodies and went to dinner...then to the dollar tree...we did our shopping and went to the van to sort what we wanted to take into the hotel and what stays in the van...she seen these cute cereal bowls i had bought to take cereal to work in and sent me back in to buy her one...she was still sorting when i came back out and she happened to mention she was only taking one container of fudge into the hotel...just one??? my face showed the shock...how many did YOU BUY??? now this is the point where i tell you where we went for dinner...a buffet...yes... a buffet... that is where the real belly laughing started...i told her the way we were going, we weren't going to be able to fit through a door....it took us a few minutes to recover enough to drive around the block to the hotel... getting off the elevator i swear...i heard the elevator say thanks for getting off, next time obey the weight limit...telling mom this got us in another round of belly laughing that had us stopping in the hall to catch our breaths.... we then went and got ready and got some hot tub time in...then off to our room for relaxation....aaaaahhhhh....it was nice....mom starts to doze around 8:30...me... nope... not even tired...i had no kids and i wasn't about to sleep and miss out on all that quiet... so i decide a facial is in order...so i go wash my make up off, message my face, do a steam treatment...and put my pretty green clay mask on...and go and watch tv while it dries... this is the point my mom, starts to toss and wake up....her eyes were the size of saucers, and straight faced said "i only fell asleep for a few minutes and you molded" yep...more belly laughter....calm down enough to say it was a face mask and for her to tell me to warn her if i mask anything else...again...more belly laughter... at this point...our stomach's are hurting...but we just could not stop laughing... though out the night, random things would wake us and again send us into giggles... so needless to say...we did not get a lot of sleep... which only makes us goofier...we decide, after a healthy breakfast to go to the flea market...picking up my coat first from the nail place and then to pick up dd2 since she had stayed home alone and i know needing some human contact...she regretted saying she wanted to come only moments after being picked up...her grandmother and mother were giggly and nuts....but pretty i must say...lol...we spent about 3 hours at the flea market... and again...going to a farmers market...this time, we said no to the fudge...lol... and instead picked up some fruits and veggies...oh...and banana bread *blush* dinner was at an amish restaurant...and oiy...i ate less at the buffet the night before....which of course... got mom and i laughing once again...we then did a little shopping at their gift shop and home to unload...tired and relaxed at the same time...our stomach's hurting both from too much food and laughing so hard...no money left to our names....and planning to do this again... emoticon

And even though we did tend to over do the eating part...i think the walking and laughing helped counter act some of those calories... emoticon

Sounds like you had a great time. The Amish have great food and it is hard to resist. Last week we went to an Amish buffet, and though I tried to be good, the buffet won! Then we went to a farmers market, and had to restrain myself there too. Thankfully, I was so full from lunch, that nothing tempted me, LOL.

Have a great week!

Sounds like you had a wonderful time. The whole point of a mini vacation is to do things you wouldn't normally do so I really wouldn't worry about over indulging a little.

My Take On My Monday Meditation

Tuesday, March 24, 2009

The last quote of the Monday Meditation is what spoke to me...it was a aha moment...
"It is a psychological fact that people always conform to the image
they hold of themselves. Change their image and you change
their actions, their reactions, their environment, their worlds."
Jack Holland

If we tell ourselves we are failures...we will be, even if though we weren't to begin with...if we tell ourselves we are fat...we are going to be...if we tell ourselves nobody could possibly love us...they won't...and everything around us will reflect what we told ourselves.

Now the questions and my answers....

Questions to ponder:

1. Why might we tend to base our worth (or feelings of unworthiness)
on the things that we accomplish--or fail to accomplish?

Because that is what is instilled in us from society...and ourselves.

2. What are some ways that we might improve our self-esteem?

Positive self talk.

3. How do we fall into the trap of developing low self-esteem?

Allowing others to belittle us...by talking down to ourselves...

I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an' pretend
'cause I've heard it all before
And I've been down there on the floor
No one's ever gonna keep me down again

CHORUS
Oh yes I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman

You can bend but never break me
'cause it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal
And I come back even stronger
Not a novice any longer
'cause you've deepened the conviction in my soul

CHORUS

I am woman watch me grow
See me standing toe to toe
As I spread my lovin' arms across the land
But I'm still an embryo
With a long long way to go
Until I make my brother understand

Oh yes I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to I can face anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman
Oh, I am woman
I am invincible
I am strong

FADE
I am woman
I am invincible
I am strong
I am woman

About Spa Weekend...Part 2

Monday, March 23, 2009

Today i started riding my stationary bike for 15 minutes. For me...that's good... i committed to 5 minutes a day the beginning of last week, building up to 10 by weeks end. This week, i recommitted to 15 minutes....that on top of the every day strength training exercises i have been doing daily...wohoo!!! i am so proud of me...

as for the spa weekend....wohoo!!! only days away...and i'm ecstatic...today, i'm going to share a chapped lip spa treatment.

Lip Exfoliate Treatment

1/4 c sugar
1 Tbsp honey
1 tsp olive oil
a drop of peppermint oil (if you have)

Mix together and adding enough water to make a paste.

Hold a warm wet washcloth over lips for a few minutes. Rub sugar mixture over lips for a minute, enough to get dead skin off but not long enough to irritate.

Rinse off with warm water and apply favorite chap stick.

I sure wish I could stop being influenced by my husband's attitude of needing to accomplish something to be worthwhile. I'm so glad my Mom showed us kids unconditional acceptance and love as individuals. She was great at separating the worth of the individual and the person's behavior. I wish she was still on this earth so I could talk with her. It will be a year since she passed away the end of May. Thanks for the reminders not to allow others or negative self talk to be such a downer.

Getting Ready For Spa Weekend

Sunday, March 22, 2009

Last year, mom and i took a night off and treated ourselves to a hotel with a hot tub. We also pampered ourselves with homemade spa treatments and did our own facials, manicures and pedicures...along with a soothing milk bath and hair treatment...and though this was nice... trying to fit it all into one night was a little much...This year, we are going to go get the mani/pedi's done professionally. Neither of us normally like our feet touched by other people...my whole family is that way...lol...but this year, as part of a birthday present to ourselves...we are getting one done...last year, i made a banana/mayo hair mask... now this is great for a home treatment...but to have sit in a hot car all day to take to a hotel...not such a good idea...lol...so this year i just bought an avon hair mask...but will give you the home version i like.

Banana Hair Mask
For very dry or damaged hair.
Materials:
1 banana
2-3 dollops of mayonnaise
1 tbls olive oil

Instructions:
Put banana in blender and puree until completely smooth. (You don't want clumps of banana in your hair.) Then add mayo and oil and blend until smooth and creamy. Apply to hair. Let sit for 15-30 minutes. Rinse with warm water and shampoo as usual.

Sounds like you are going to have a great night! I love having a professional pedicure done. I had to get over the whole someone touching my feet thing too, but it is so worth it! I get 1 or 2 a year.

Thanks for the recipe, Kitty! I may have to try that. Will come in handy when that banana's looking just a little too brown to eat, too...

I need to follow your lead and do something like this mini-spa night with my BFF. I think it sounds like a fun idea! Glad you had a good time!!
