I picked today to let off some steam and one of my pet-peeves since I've been on my journey to a healthier lifestyle. The pet-peeve is the information provided on food products. We have this whole pyramid identifying what we need and chart after chart showing how much of which vitamins, minerals we need, but we aren't getting the data to really know what we are consuming.
I eat Dole Pineapple Tidbits fruit cups. Yeah, it's one serving of fruit. But hey, the only vitamins etal listed only shows Vitamin C (50%) and Iron (2%). What happened to the manganese, magnesium, thiamine, and potassium.
If I go online and check for the nutritional facts using Self's Nutrition Data
and-fruit-juices/2019/2 a serving of pineapple would give me like 46-52%RDA for manganese, but nothing, Nada, shows on the Doles packaging. For water soluable vitamins and minerals it probably doesn't matter as much since the excess will get flushed out of the system but what if it isn't water soluable? How do I track this discrepancy?
I've been cheated out of needed information and YES I'm annoyed because this is just one of many food products that use and it's not helping me to get a better picture of my true health.
Did I say pet-peeve? Oh YEAH!
