"When things go wrong don't go with them"

Saturday, February 27, 2010

I wish I could take credit for the title, but it's a quote by Elvis Presley but it says it all...Things will go wrong, and you have to learn to roll with the punches when need be, run if you have to and learn to fight (put the fire out) when appropriate...remember you have a choice here, you don't have to follow that rabbit down the hole...Just say NO; It's one of the first words we learn, now put into practice where needed...so "when things go wrong, don't go with them".

Very well put! I feel all scolded and stuff, cuz there's a box of chocolate chip cookies out there with my name written all over it! Now, I'm feeling a little iffy about the whole thing. Thanks ... thanks a lot for that. My pants are already too tight in the waist, so I will try to make it through the night without attacking those cookies.

Find the balance!

Friday, February 26, 2010

Confused, frustrated, overwhelmed...words that reflect that life is not in balance. The mind, body and spirit are meant to work together...I joined SparkPeople with one focus, to lose weight and become healthier. The journey has brought me so much more; it brought to the surface other areas that also needed attention, areas that needed to be decluttered which made eating unhealthy, not hydrating myself appropriately and somehow made the time to exercise and pamper myself seem impossible. We all have the same 24 hours, what's up with the thought that comes to us all, "There's not enough time in a day".

While reading the SP articles I came across the Story of Priorities and a Jar (the link is listed below). I had heard it before, and even remember finding a movie for my daughter that illustrated the points of the story and yet we go to bed not at peace, with a sense of imbalance that can make you dread getting out of bed the next morning. Read the story, thenfind the balance that works for you, taking one day at a time.

Choose to be the verb in your life-full of action!

Thursday, February 25, 2010

Don't be the wallflower, standing by and watching your life go by...never satisfying the yearnings that burn inside...missing out on the lessons life has to offer...let the fire out, and choose to be the verb in your life-full of action! emoticon

Make friends with your food.

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Food is a life source, you can't do without it; it a great source of satisfaction and frustration at the same time. It has become an all-or-nothing situation, when there's a lot of room in the middle; it's not just delicious and sinful or healthy and boring...Pick a food you've never tried (ok, maybe that pushing it, start with something that you don't usually like) yet the food is really good for you (packed with nutrients your body really needs) and pair it up with something has equal intensity on the other side of the tastebuds scale and you may find that it's easier to pull more foods onto your menu...For me, I had never enjoyed brussels sprouts or asparagus but they are packed with good stuff...One day I tried it with picked up a vegetarian frozen dinner (Healthy Choice Pumpkin Squash Ravioli) that had asparagus in it and the taste of the squash make the asparagus so much appealing to me...with that, I decided to try something new, sweet mashed potatoes with brussels sprout... emoticonso good, I will even eat it for breakfast...

So make friends with your food...try new things, mix it up...your palate will love you for it and the ability to stick to your plan will get easier.

Excellent thoughts! Thank you for sharing that. It's true, pairing up something new with something familiar is the best way to approach any new activity. Eating is an activity we can't do without, so it makes sense to become friends with our food. Boy, I am GOOD friends with my weakness, crackers. LOL. But I am learning to deal with them. Really, they are a comfort food. That is why I kept taking teeny tiny steps during my first few months with spark - reading, thinking, reading, thinking.
