You gotta give some to get some!

Saturday, November 21, 2009

We live our lives as though everything is black or white, right or wrong, when in actual we spend most of our time in the gray areas...be flexible, give yourself time to step through the lessons and learn from each one...remember the story about the carrot, the egg and the coffee...

The Story:
A Carrot, An Egg, And A Cup Of Coffee

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first pot she placed carrots. In the second pot she placed eggs. In the last pot she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in another bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a mug.

Turning to her daughter, she said, “Tell me what you see.”

”Carrots, eggs, and coffee,” the daughter replied.

Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg.

Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then asked, “What does it mean, mother?”

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

”Which are you?” she asked her daughter. “When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?”

Choose to be the coffee...take steps to become the coffee...You gotta give some to get some!

"There is no rest for success."

Thursday, November 19, 2009

Just a passing thought that struck me today...To be successful one must be prepared and ready to seize an opportunity when it comes knocking...it doesn't always mean trying to throw in some exercise, it isn't always physical...it's mental and spiritually as well...learning from each mistake to get better the next time around, and the next time around until the opportunity comes along to make a difference, you will...There is no rest for success, but the rewards are so worth working for.

Good points. Sometimes though I think we don't pause long enough to enjoy the successes that we have achieved and the blessings God has given.

Focus on what IS working!

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

Consistency is the key to reaching a goal...Often we get slowed down by thinking that we could have done better, we should have done more...What has actually been accomplished is either minimized if recognized at all...Instead of focusing in on what didn't work, focus on what IS working and build from there...To focus on your weakness gives them more power, more strength over the task at hand and reduces the precious time that could be better used...Pump up the positive self-talk each day to strength the total person you are!

We are so close to the end of this year, you can practically touch it...but no worries...the countdown begins when you take the first step to making the change for a better you...in some areas that can be large steps, while in others it may mean babysteps (even crawling) for what counts is that you start...today the countdown begins for me.
