"You've got to believe...you can succeed"

Friday, August 14, 2009

I read the following from the Healthy Reflections email today and it touched me...and want to keep it for future reference. If you didn't have time to read it, do so now...I think you'll agree with the message.
"What we can learn about patience from a diamond

'Even if our efforts of attention seem for years to be producing no result, one day a light that is in exact proportion to them will flood the soul.' -- Simone Weil

Trying (but failing) to see your goals realized can be frustrating. Margaret Thatcher once said "You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it," and she was absolutely right. You've got to believe that you will succeed! Never admit defeat as long as time and effort remain. Our greatest asset is patience; our greatest weakness is throwing in the towel. Banish discouragement and feelings of impossibility by working hard, doing more, and not giving in! A diamond was only made beautiful after millions of years as a lump of coal." You've got to believe!

Walk it off and water it down!

Wednesday, August 12, 2009

Got stress?! Walk it off...the air will do you good mentally, physically and spiritually...THEN water it down...take that mountain and cut it down to management sizes! Life really was meant to be more harmonious...make it so!

Getting there is only half the fun!

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

It's not easy making major changes in our life, albeit necessary to do...If it is looked at as a chore, the load gets heavier...so let the child out again and have some fun learning about yourself and mixing things up...make getting there only half the fun!

Not completely back to the level of work out intensity I was before I hurt my leg/foot but getting there...keeping my calories/carb/fat/proteins in check has been going well and feel more in control of managing some important nutrients...making the move to go from 9 glasses of water to 11, so far so good as this goes hand-in-hand with my most recent healthier living venture to stop smoking...I'm taking the babystep approach which to me is important while I continue to retrain my thinking to handle my triggers and removing an old constant/crutch--start date was 07/13/09...Don't gag or scream, but I started at 30 cigs a day...the goal was to be down to 18 as of week 08/09/09 and yesterday I was at 14. emoticon, but I'm not changing my goal number for this week - babysteps and a plan gives me wiggle room this week. The object is to not miss the old crutch that I will regress back beyond the level set for this week and continue to progress...I've identified a few tough areas where I smoke all the time, but I'm playing with a few ideas as I declutter my heart, mind and soul so that this too will pass!

Hope is a muscle- develop it!

Monday, August 10, 2009

If the first thought that comes to mind when things don't work out is negative, this is a very important muscle to build. It can be a tricky little minks, so thank goodness it's a muscle that can be exercised everyday. The muscle is similar to a knee-jerk, usually something has to happen in order to trigger action...so how fast can you recover. It takes practice. So every time you say something negative about yourself, quickly turn it around and make it a positive or at least reduce the intensity...help to destress life with hope...it's a muscle that needs to be developed and maintained too!
