Use your stumbling blocks as stepping stones!

Thursday, August 06, 2009

Flex your mental muscles...take those setbacks, those problems, those negative thoughts, those stumbling blocks and acknowledge them but don't accept them for they are not your friends. Turn them around and find the silver lining, let the light shine in, the positive opportunities...as soon as you see you're on the wrong path repeating a bad pattern, emoticoncut your losses, learn from it and get right back on the right one. And if I recognize the wrong path faster than I did the last time, that calls for a hug! emoticon emoticon

That's right. I love this. Each setback has something in it to help us move forward. Like my mom always says to me, when life gives you a bunch of lemons, just make some lemonade.

Train your body and your mind!

Wednesday, August 05, 2009

"If you want a quality, act as if you already had it. Try the as if technique."
--William James

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit. "--Aristotle

There are so many things we want for ourselves and our loved ones, it hard to tell sometimes where to start first without feeling that you are placing one over another, but you must choose -- so pick one, YOU!

"Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world." --Lucille Ball

The love for yourself will get you out of bed, will exercise (even if it's a little) to take care of the external side of you...Even if you don't like the condition of certain body parts, where would you be without them...Accept each part, acknowledge that old way needs to tweeked, decide what you want, pick the tools to reach your goal, and slowly start resculpturing the model...You are a masterpiece in progress, so design away...

Along with the external, comes the internal they work together. List the wonderful things about yourself and each part of you...feed the body with healthy foods and retrain your mind when poor choices come your way, NO means NO, and go for the better choice. Establish new eating habits, find ways to take the power out of your triggers. Take the negative drama out of your life and replace it with positives everywhere you can; let single mistakes stay single mistakes, don't expand it to include everything you do...

Train your body and mind to work together to reach the peaceful harmonious state you dream about!

Great post. Working on one without the other leads to a lack of balance. Great advice.

Feed your body, mind and spirit!

Tuesday, August 04, 2009

I'm revisiting the nutrients tracked on the nutrition tracker...healthy living isn't just about staying within the guidelines for calories, proteins, fats and carbs...there are so many other nutrients needed to keep the body functioning. So while I feed my body (I heard this said somewhere and it stuck, "Eat like a queen in the morning, a princess in the afternoon and a pauper in the evening"), I've been rather impressed to see how the changes to my eating habits stay pretty well in sync with all the nutrients (iron, sodium, calcium, cholesterol, Vitamins (C, B6/B12, E) and with my new found love for all types of beans, magnesium and Potassium I am really making good strides. I am learning, and incorporating, so much about what each nutrient does and how important it is for the body to function better - what a mental lesson. And lastly, my spirit is taking flight to new heights as I love my new look, as well as the way I think and feel about me as I continue on my journey.

Now if we can only get the food industry to include all the nutritional value on their packaging that would be fantastic! One day at a time, one step at a time, right!

So true. I wonder often about potassium and calcium.

I agree with you. Once I became more aware of what I was eating and added more variety to the fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and beans that I eat, I my fill of things like vitamins C, D, E, zinc, calcium, etc. And it was easier than I had thought. I think the new look is what makes the eating easier. As you look better, you feel better, and that makes you eat better. Itís definitely a cycle, and each one feeds the other.

WooHoo each personal success, no matter how small!

Monday, August 03, 2009

Babystep! What a nice way to let us know that we need to celebrate each small step towards our goal...it may not be in pounds or inches when we want it, but in knowing the difference and making better choices. Continue to take the necessary steps and the pounds and inches won't stand a chance, they will yield. Always WooHoo each personal success, no matter how small- nothing like positive reinforcement to provide the mortar that holds all the bricks together.

Right! If I waited until I reached my ultimate goal, I'd never be happy. Too many times, we think "Oh, I've only lost one pound, but look at how much I have to go." We should celebrate the one gone! I just bought some size 22 shorts online - and I can slip them on and off without unzipping them. Wow! 3 months ago, size 22 wasn't imaginable - now I'm sending them back. emoticon

R-E-L-A-X and unwind!

Sunday, August 02, 2009

As important as it is to keep the mind, body and spirit in motion...there comes a time when everything must rest...Take the time to pamper yourself with a good nites rest, medicate and make life pause for just a few minutes, read a good book, look at a fun movie, play a board game (in this age of electronics you'd be amazed how much is bombarding your senses), power walks are great but sometimes just stroll and smell the roses, watch the birds, let the beauty and amazement of lightning and thunder awe you with it's magnificence, listen to the rain and watch the clouds roll by...reserve being hard on yourself until it is actually called for, so go take a nap, recharge those batteries/cells and thank yourself because you probably needed it.

So true that we need to carve out time for ourselves. We often neglect our health. This was a good reminder. -- Lou
