I'M BACK!!

Monday, May 03, 2010

I am feeling so good! FINALLY!
I started doing pilates and yoga last week and I am feeling strong and capable again . Today I stopped taking my antibiotics that I have been on for months! I am hoping my body will be ok about it and that I don't get sick again. I will have a repeat echocardiogram on Wednesday and see my cardiologist in the afternoon to see if my heart is stable . I am presently riding my bike, doing spin class 3 or 4 times a week, doing water aerobics 2x a week , swimming occasionally, hope to get back to strength training and adding more cardio. I am BACK! I HOPE!

STREP IS STILL HERE

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

Well yesterday I saw my cardiologist , we will repeat my echocardiogram in 2 weeks and I will see him on that day , the 5th of May. My ASO is still over 600 normal is under 200 so I sill have active strep infection in my blood! This has been going on for months and I have been treated with antibiotics for months! I am so frustrated! I am so tired of being sick. My cardiologist doesn't think I have endocarditis yet. We can't culture my blood because I am on antibiotics. Every time I go off them I get short of breath and I swell and my chest hurts. This is scary this infection can destroy my heart and my kidneys it is dangerous. I am waiting for a call back from my internist .

FIRST SPIN CLASS IN 41/2 MONTHS!

Friday, April 16, 2010

Well this morning I woke up at 9:30 and thought if I was going to get to the gym I better get a move on . So put on my swim suit packed my gym clothes and shoes and socks and put on some lose pants and sandals and pedaled my bike to the gym. I went to the 11am water aerobics class . That was fun. Then went in the locker room dressed quickly and to my surprised found I forgot my underwear! LOL So I decided to go upstairs and see if I could sit on the spin bike and just pedal and be around my friends because I have been feeling so isolated with this illness and my bum knee . So I went upstairs and got on my spin bike and it felt good the music was great and my friends were all smiling. My friend Dave looked over at me and said ' Be Careful!' and next thing I knew I was standing in the pedals and spinning away! My knee didn't hurt! Granted I wasn't spinning at the rate I usually do and I wasn't putting on the usual amount of resistance but I was spinning and I was having fun. I couldn't stop smiling. So much fun.

post strep syndrome

Thursday, April 15, 2010

This week I started a lowered dose of Keflex , 250 mg 2x a day for a month. I understand more about what is going on my immune system is attacking my body in response to the high levels of strep bacteria in the body. I am pale and I am exhausted. I see my cardiologist next week to evaluate my heart and see if this has gone into endocarditis. I gained 4 pounds of fluid last week and got very weak when after going off of the antibiotics for 2 days then back on them for 7 , was very scary started having chest pain around my heart and got very swollen. I haven't been to the gym in 2 weeks. I did go for a 2 mile walk yesterday and 1 and 3/4 mile walk tonight. I hope to get to the gym in the morning. This is a very hard road back to me.

Change is continuous

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

Ok here we go.
On Monday I called my internist's office to check on blood work that was drawn 10 days before to check on a possible post strep syndrome, bad news it was off the charts! So yesterday I had to go have an echocardiogram which showed 3 leaking heart valves, had 4 more vials of blood drawn and a rapid strep test done. So I am not a carrier of strep. My doctor started me on Keflex 500 mg 4x a day for 10 days. I see an Infectious disease doctor on Monday up in Ft. Pierce as well. So far they haven't told me to back off on my exercise so I am doing what I feel like doing. I have taken 3 pounds off in 11 days. I am wiped out most of the time and now I know why. My doctor is calling this inflammatory arthritis and not rheumatic fever says it isn't there yet and was relieved my heart isn't enlarged yet. I am thankful I happened to be wearing my exercise heart monitor and notice my resting heart rate was 20 points higher than it usually is and say something to my neurologist and he pay attention to me and get the blood sample before I damaged my heart too badly.
I NEED A NAP!

I have not gotten myself a heart monitor. Had been wondering if I really needed to. After your experience - I'm looking for one. You may not have set out to share the importance of them, but thank you for sharing what told you to be concerned for your health.

Will hope and prayer your next doctor's appt has a good outcome.
