My son and daughter in law live in Fredricksburg, VA, about 30 miles from me. Last evening we all had very bad storms, but they got hit the worst. My son called me telling me they had golf ball sized hail and torrential winds, trees down in his and neighbors yards. He lost power as we talked. Later he and his wife went out to survey the damage. Only 1 block from their home, a "microburst" destroyed a thankfully only small area.
Fortunately, they are fine. The white building, which was all brick, lost its roof and part of it collapsed inside where a group of cheerleaders were there for practice. There were 8 injuries, but everyone will be ok. Multiple small business in a little strip were damaged extensively also and many homes in the neighborhood that weren't in the line of attack still had a lot of tree and wind damage.
Just goes to show you how you need to pay attention to the storm warnings and really do what they say. I started getting emergency texts on my phone 30 minutes prior to the event, warning of the danger and the need to take cover.

Today was the 5th Annual Kyle Wilson 10K Fitness Walk to remember Kyle Wilson, a local firefighter that died in the line of duty April 16. 2007. Fitness was important to Kyle and his family has this annual walk to not only remember him but to promote his passion, fitness. It's called "Pack the track" and it was packed today.
We started off at Hylton High School and walked the hills of Spriggs Road for 6.2 miles.
Thanks to Wanda, Tom, Kim, Celia, Brandon, Lisa, Fiona, Emily, Aziz, Keesha and her kids and Katina for coming with me! Spark friends, co-workers and family-couldn't ask for a better group of people.
Thanks to the many PWC Police there for their support today!
I didn't set any speed records since we leisurely walked, but didn't go at a snails pace either. I finished the 6.2 miles in 1:46:15. I think the majority of the 500+ walkers stopped at the 5K mark because we were pretty alone on the second half of the walk.
RIP Kyle....you will ALWAYS be remembered. Thank you for your service to PWC and for your ultimate sacrifice in trying to protect and rescue that family on April 16, 2007.
Thanks to all the area Fire Depts that came out today in a day of remembrance and a day of celebrating and promoting fitness.

As most of you know, today was the final flight of the Space Shuttle Discovery. It left Florida, piggy backing on a 747. It took a "victory flight" over the entire DC Metro area. I had the news on my entire way to work and with my Mom on the phone reading me where it was at that moment from the numerous Facebook and news reports. It circled 3 separate times before it landed at Dulles to be taken to the Air and Space Udvar Hazy Center in Chantilly. One of my co-workers called, ranting and raving about the traffic and so many people out of their cars waiting for it to fly by their area. Literally, in the midst of her tirade, it flew right over me! It was AMAZING to see and got me all choked up and excited at the same time. Here she was angry, yet I was so excited. I couldn't begin to get my camera out before it had disappeared behind the trees, but many of my friends and family got some awesome pics. My son got great pics and video as it passed over his work right near Dulles Airport. I posted the video on my FB page, but can't seem to get the link to work to post here :-(
Here's a few pics gathered from the thousands that were taken today:
