To a special Spark friend

Thursday, May 26, 2011

My NOVA Sparkers team has been so awesome over the last year and a half. We meet monthly, we shop together, have lunch together, run races together and talk to each other all the time. We are losing our friend Teresa. She's moving to CA...this weekend. I'm so emoticon for the change this will make in her life but so emoticon to lose someone that has become a special friend.

Here's a few pics over the last year:

Last weekend we got together for our last time before she moves. We met at an outlet mall and shopped and then we had lunch and then we went to a State park to hike. We didn't end up hiking a whole lot as we stopped to take a lot of pictures, we had had an awesome time. Unfortunately quite a few people couldn't make it, but Tammie and I had a blast with her.

Here we are straddling the MD/VA line:

The steps leading up to the trail we went on:

Some of the pretty views:

It was a great day and one I will treasure forever. We could hardly hug goodbye and we all cried as we drove off in our separate cars. Wishing you the best of luck Teresa. Will miss you bunches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok will you please stop making me cry!
Thank you Carla for posting that- it means the world to me that I have made such great friends out here.
The move, for me, is bittersweet as well. I know financially it is better, but emotionally it is wrecking me.
I will miss you all so much!

A perfect day

Sunday, May 08, 2011

Today Meghan and I surprised Mom and went to her house for Mothers Day. She had no idea we were coming. When we got there, she was sitting on the couch on her laptop. I walked in with flowers and said Happy Mother's Day and she jumped and had such a look of shock on her face. I sure wish someone had a camera at that point! She thought with the price of gas and the fact that we were just there on Easter we wouldn't be coming.

We had a nice day. We went to a Farmers Market and I came out with boxes of plants and jars of yummy sugar free jams and bbq sauces and fresh veggies. Everything will fill up our back seat.

Mom planted me a flower

and I brought her flowers:

I brought all the fixings for a healthy dinner and we cooked it after we got back from the market. We had bison burgers topped with avocado and pico de gallo, baked butternut squash fries, spaghetti squash, baby zucchini, asparagus, a tomato and mozzarella salad, green beans and sweet potatoes. This is my plate:

I got a pedicure for a gift
and a Coach purse from the Coach outlet. For Mothers Day, they had 50% off already marked down prices and then 30% off on top of that of any/all purchases in the entire store. Can't beat 80% off! I also got a night gown and some really pretty key chains from Meghan. Emily sent me a message that Skyla ate my gift and that it wasn't edible, LOL. I'm not sure what that was!

Here is a pic of 4 generations, Nanny, Mom, Meghan and me:

It was a very nice day.

Happy Mother's Day!

It was a perfect day. I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked up and Carla and Meghan were standing in the living room. They brought me a cyclamen plant in a purse planter. BUT the best thing of all, was their coming to spend the day with us.

A great time at the dog park

Sunday, May 01, 2011

Emily takes Skyla to a dog park near them all the time. My dogs have never gone.
Today she invited us to bring Molly and Moxie, but Meghan was away visiting her Grandma and I couldn't handle both of them in the car by myself so I only took Molly.

Aaron and Amber ended up bringing Meghan when they got home from Grandma's and they stopped at their house and picked up Dallas and Bayleigh, their 2 Siberian Huskies.

Dallas being an alpha male had some trouble getting along with the other males and he had to stay on his leash about half the time. Molly, Bayleigh and Skyla did great and had a blast running and playing with all the other doggies.

I ran around with them, playing frisbee and fetch and burned a lot of calories, so I got my exercise in too!

Here's a few pics of them there and then at home resting after. The good thing was Molly was tired and she slept the whole way home.

Now that I've had two blogs about fun times, tomorrow I will get to posting about my 28 day challenge and goals for May!

That really sounds like a great time. We haven't gotten a new dog since we lost our English Springer Spanial and it nearly killed us. Dog parks are awesome places to take your pets and I bet that you loved it almost as much as they did.

Fun in Old Towne Alexandria

Saturday, April 30, 2011

I had a great day today with two Spark friends!

We went to the water front in Alexandria. Teresa stood in a parking space for about 10 minutes waiting for me to get down the to water front.

We had a pretty healthy snack while waiting for Tammie. We had dinner at an Irish place and walked all around. I met my activity target, calorie burn and step target hours before I do most days.

We saw baby ducks:

Watched the boats coming and going:

Walked around all over:

and even sat on a cow!

It was a fun afternoon/evening with great friends. We are already planning the next trip!

Thank you guys :-)

Gliders-Eagles Nest Airport-Waynesboro, VA

Sunday, April 24, 2011

This airport is right behind Mom's house. They offer plane, helicopter and glider rides. I wanted to ride the gliders with Meghan so we went up there. Unfortunately they had no spots open for the remainder of the day so we just watched what was left.

It's so cool to see the host plan with a big rope attached to the glider. They go up 3000 feet and then the rope is released and the glider is off. It rides for anywhere from 25-60 minutes depending on the wind conditions. They live in the Shenandoah Valley and there is always wind.

We are going to reserve a time for when we come back next time. Can't wait!

Oh my gosh! Seeing those mountains makes me want for a visit back home ... I grew up in Staunton! We were neighbors and didn't know it! Thanks for the pictures from back home! I spent many an afternoon at the airport watching the planes come and go as a little girl. My Dad and I loved it!
