Today was the 4th Annual Kyle Wilson 10K Fitness Walk to remember Kyle Wilson, a local firefighter that died in the line of duty April 16. 2007. Fitness was important to Kyle and his family has this annual walk to not only remember him but to promote his passion, fitness.
We originally had planned more NOVA Sparkers but with sick doggies and unexpected company arriving and the rain, it was me and Wanda.
It wasn't nearly as crowded as prior years but it was still a good turnout. We had wind and rain and it was COLD between the two.
Due to the expected severe storms, the race was downed to a 5K from a 10K.
It was still fun! Thanks Wanda. I enjoyed meeting Tom and Lauren.
RIP Kyle and thanks for your service! There sure were a lot of people out there to support your cause and to remember you.
My friend and co-worker Francine is 51 years old and has been on the kidney transplant list for 5 years. Recently her kidney function has dramatically decreased and she moved up on the list. She received a call just after midnight that they may have a kidney for her today! She is a perfect match, but there are 2 people are ahead of her on the list and they are waiting to see if they are a 100% match or not and where exactly they are with their kidney function. They thought she has a good enough chance that they told her to be ready and to not have anything to eat or drink today and they will call her back by 11. If it's a go, it will happen today.
Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers that this is her time and if it's not that she gets another chance soon. Either way, someone's health will dramatically improve today.
I am an organ donor too, the chance to improve someone else's life is awesome!
This is Frankie at our 2008 Christmas party (she's the 3rd from the left). She still looks this great, but her body inside is very sick.
****Update**** For those of you that didn't see my status, Francine did not get one of these kidneys. However, two other people did and that is an awesome thing. I hope her time will come soon.
I went with Aaron and Amber to her 2nd trimester anatomy sono today. She has a nice little 12 oz healthy baby boy :-) He has 10 fingers and toes, normal heart, kidneys, stomach, bladder, spine and brain. He's due 9/4/11
I've gotten my info from her, gone to the grocery store and then today I sat down and planned out my first week. Fortunately I had most of the items already.
I also cleaned out one of our freezers and have just my stuff in there. All my veggies, lean meats, grains (so they stay fresher), etc. It makes it much easier to not have to look all over the other freezers wondering where I put something. I put all my fresh foods in the fridge downstairs, again just easier. I also cleaned off one of the bakers racks we have in the dining room and have only my things on there. Here in my house my DH does NOT eat the good foods I eat (but Meghan does) and I just like to be able to know where mine is and grab it when I want it.
I chopped veggies and fruit and put in containers. I cooked batches of several different grains and I roasted a 9 pound chicken roaster to use for several days.
I have my HealthMaster mixer (very similar to a VitaMixer) out on the counter and have already made fresh cashew and almond butter. I will use it for other things throughout the week.
I'm a little less organized on the exercise part, but I will have that down in no time. Just need to figure out my schedule.
Tomorrow I will take my starting pictures and a picture of my weight on the scale in the morning and then can do weekly updates.
I'm very excited to be chosen this month and to get to soak up the knowledge that Carolyn has to share. She is an incredible inspiration and a great motivator. I'm ready!!
