Happy Easter

Saturday, April 23, 2011

Wishing all my Spark friends a great Easter!

We are spending it at Mom's, although we just got here half an hour ago and she was trying hard to wait up for us.

We had a long day, moving my Nanny's things into storage since she is at Mom's now and we got Meghan's learner's permit this morning.

Ready for bed now...

Congrats to Meghan on getting her learner's permit! My oldest DD got her driver's license last week. As a parent, you've "been down this road" before, but this is new to me... Some stages of parenting are definitely easier to adjust to than others, aren't they? emoticon

Happy Easter!

A VERY Rainy Kyle Wilson 2011 Fitness Walk

Saturday, April 16, 2011

Today was the 4th Annual Kyle Wilson 10K Fitness Walk to remember Kyle Wilson, a local firefighter that died in the line of duty April 16. 2007. Fitness was important to Kyle and his family has this annual walk to not only remember him but to promote his passion, fitness.

We originally had planned more NOVA Sparkers but with sick doggies and unexpected company arriving and the rain, it was me and Wanda.

It wasn't nearly as crowded as prior years but it was still a good turnout. We had wind and rain and it was COLD between the two.

Due to the expected severe storms, the race was downed to a 5K from a 10K.

It was still fun! Thanks Wanda. I enjoyed meeting Tom and Lauren.

RIP Kyle and thanks for your service! There sure were a lot of people out there to support your cause and to remember you.

This is the shirt for this year:

Carla - it was GREAT to do the walk with you and Meghan - Thanks for posting pictures!! It was so rainy and cold - but our firefighters (and all those in uniform) don't get to choose the weather under which they work.

Silly sick dogs! he opened his wound again pretty badly a little bit ago. Last night he used his foot, but today his mouth. Needless to say, I finally broke down and put the collar on him.
Glad you had fun and glad you still went out in the rain!!!

Good of you and Meghan to go out to this event even in the pouring rain. Kyle's family is doing a really good thing to promote fitness in his name. Glad it was a good turnout. Good thing you bought those ponchos and the gloves you had on. The pictures of all of you are really good and you have something to remember the race as well as the shirt. You are such a sweet person because you are always doing something good for people and for a good purpose. I love you very much. Mom

Prayers and positive thoughts needed for a friend!

Thursday, April 14, 2011

My friend and co-worker Francine is 51 years old and has been on the kidney transplant list for 5 years. Recently her kidney function has dramatically decreased and she moved up on the list. She received a call just after midnight that they may have a kidney for her today! She is a perfect match, but there are 2 people are ahead of her on the list and they are waiting to see if they are a 100% match or not and where exactly they are with their kidney function. They thought she has a good enough chance that they told her to be ready and to not have anything to eat or drink today and they will call her back by 11. If it's a go, it will happen today.

Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers that this is her time and if it's not that she gets another chance soon. Either way, someone's health will dramatically improve today.

I am an organ donor too, the chance to improve someone else's life is awesome!

This is Frankie at our 2008 Christmas party (she's the 3rd from the left). She still looks this great, but her body inside is very sick.

****Update**** For those of you that didn't see my status, Francine did not get one of these kidneys. However, two other people did and that is an awesome thing. I hope her time will come soon.

Praying for your friend, and for the donor's family, as well.

When our DD got her (first) driver's license today, she also signed up to be an organ donor (like her father and I have done). We're so proud of her!

Please keep us updated on how Francine is doing.

Your friend and the donor and his/her family are in my prayers. My mother is on dialysis and never was a candidate for a transplant because of age and ill health. There is nothing pleasant about dialysis. Please let us know how this goes.

Please also remember to say a prayer for the family of the donor whether Francine gets the kidney or not. It is a very sad time for that family and I am sure they need a prayer and a hug.

Keeping Francine in my prayers, too, Carla. . . My mom was in the same boat - kidney failure, and on dialysis. It is difficult and takes a toll on the body. . . I have a friend here who is on dialysis and on the list.

Prayers of support and healing to your friend - I hope today is "her" day.

Prayers of support and strength to all the medical personnel involved in this life-saving effort.

I work with a lady that actually was a perfect match and donated her kidney to her husband - how cool is THAT?

I just prayed for her Carla. My brother was born with one kidney and had a blockage on that one. He is having some issues with his kidney now so we have always been concerned with the possibility down the road with him having to have a transplant. So I will definitely keep Francine in my prayers.

Ready to start my plan as Carolyn's guest client tomorrow

Sunday, April 10, 2011

I've gotten my info from her, gone to the grocery store and then today I sat down and planned out my first week. Fortunately I had most of the items already.

I also cleaned out one of our freezers and have just my stuff in there. All my veggies, lean meats, grains (so they stay fresher), etc. It makes it much easier to not have to look all over the other freezers wondering where I put something. I put all my fresh foods in the fridge downstairs, again just easier. I also cleaned off one of the bakers racks we have in the dining room and have only my things on there. Here in my house my DH does NOT eat the good foods I eat (but Meghan does) and I just like to be able to know where mine is and grab it when I want it.

I chopped veggies and fruit and put in containers. I cooked batches of several different grains and I roasted a 9 pound chicken roaster to use for several days.

I have my HealthMaster mixer (very similar to a VitaMixer) out on the counter and have already made fresh cashew and almond butter. I will use it for other things throughout the week.

I'm a little less organized on the exercise part, but I will have that down in no time. Just need to figure out my schedule.

Tomorrow I will take my starting pictures and a picture of my weight on the scale in the morning and then can do weekly updates.

I'm very excited to be chosen this month and to get to soak up the knowledge that Carolyn has to share. She is an incredible inspiration and a great motivator. I'm ready!!
