I lost inches!

So, it was March 6th that I started going to the gym on a super regular basis and really, really trying my best to eat clean. I didn't lose a whole lot of weight, but I'm really happy about the inches I lost.
Weight, 174, down from 179.4 Minus 5.4 pounds
Natural waist 35.75, down from 40 Minus 4.25
Hips 42.75, down from 45 Minus 2.25
Left thigh 22.5, down from 23.5 Minus 1.0
Right thigh 22.5, down from 24 Minus 1.5
Left calf 15.5, down from 15.75 Minus .25
Right calf 15.5, down from 16 Minus .5
Chest, under breast line 35.25, down from 37 Minus 1.75
Bust-40.5, up from 40 Increase of .5
Left arm 12 Same
Right arm 13 Increase of .25

So, 10.75 inches and 5.4 pounds lost in one month!! Boy if that doesn't give me the incentive to keep going, nothing will!

Tonight at the gym I did all strength training and then a lot of floor exercises with the stability ball and medicine balls. They closed before I got to cardio, so my plan is for a walk/run tonight, but at the moment it's storming so I might end up doing a DVD downstairs.

I need to post this months pictures, but Meghan isn't home to take them now, so that will have to wait.

Loving the bike

I try really hard to mix up what I do at the gym: treadmill, bike, elliptical, swimming, strength training. I work out my little routine...what days I do which ST, cardio, etc., but I keep coming back to the bike more than any other cardio.

I've found I burn way more calories on the bike than anything else. It's no secret to my running friends that I run pretty slow, LOL...but on the bike I feel like I can fly. I put it on different programs, different more challenging levels and each time it's a challenge to me to go faster and longer.

My Body Bugg shows I burn an average of 5.6 calories a minute when riding the bike whereas I burn an average of 3.5 on the treadmill, even running. My heart rate averages in the 150's on the bike, yet 130's on the treadmill.

I will continue to do all my other activities, but most of the time stick with the cardio that seems to give me the best results.

Hopefully with the warmer weather coming I can get out with my own bike and rack up some miles and hopefully my schedule will allow me to work in a spinning class or two in each week.

    Glad you like the bike. We do have a stationery bike, but I don't ride it..hubby does each day. I have a regular bike that I hope to start using once the weather is a little better (soon, I hope). Maybe you could bring your bike and we could ride together sometime. That would be fun.

    I love my stationary bike!!! After my pregnancy I lost 60 pounds biking during the Gilmore Girls. Unfortunately I quit exercising and gained it back, but once again I am dusting it off and find myself having a blast on it on my days off from my running program. Good luck and keep up all the hard work!!!

    I love spinning classes! I haven't figured out how to do a bike workout on my own yet and burn a good amount of calories...but it's so appealing for days off from running. Spinning is so much fun :)

Eating clean

After seeing how well some of my Spark friends have done with Tosca Reno's Eat Clean Diet, I went out and bought the Eat Clean Recharged book tonight.

I've been eating a lot of really good food for the past year and have always favored fresh over processed, but I wanted new ideas and strategies.

Magnesium?

Do any of you track magnesium with your nutrition tracker? I do and I don't think I've ever once reached anywhere near the minimum recommended.

I eat whole grains and nuts already but am not sure what else I should add to try to get the amount up to where it should be.

Any suggestions?

  I never get anywhere near either and the trouble with the nuts is that they have so much of the other stuff in them - calories etc, so baically you can't win emoticon

    Flaxseed? I've started adding it to my yogurt (along with chia seeds) for the omega-3's, in hopes of getting my triglycerides down at my 6mo. check.

    I've been wondering about that too! I eat everything they recommend and I never get anywhere close to the value they say it should be. I think I read somewhere that magnesium is not something they are required to report on food labels (as well as potassium), so not having that info to input, maybe that's why we aren't anywhere close? Maybe? :-)
