First picture of my Grandbaby :-) Amber had her 1st sono today

Thursday, January 20, 2011

Jelly bean is definitely a good nick name since the baby is so incredibly tiny right now. Amber and Aaron got to our office an hour early. Think they might have been excited, LOL. Her original due date was 8/21, but after the sono it's 9/4. Interesting that's the day Brandon and Lisa are getting married! I think it will be a busy week, unless the baby decides to come much earlier or a little later.

I am so excited for you Carla!

When I was pregnant with my first son, I read a book in the library about the size of the fetus at different times throughout the pregnancy. At that time, my baby was the size of a lima bean...so all through the rest of my pregnancy, I called him "Beanie"! Unfortunately, I had a hard time getting my family to stop calling him that after he was born!

Baby puppy Roxy -RIP Thank you ALL for your thoughts and prayers

Thursday, January 13, 2011

Our puppy passed away at 10:46 this morning. I feel good knowing we did all we could possibly do to help him.

I can not say enough good things about the emergency clinic. They were professional, polite, courteous, caring and supportive. They called frequently with updates and they called immediately when his heart stopped. A tech there was holding him and carrying him around with her and he simply went limp, had a low heart rate and then passed away. They said he died very peacefully (he had been sedated with pain meds and valium) and told me to take my time deciding if I wanted to bring him home and bury him or if I wanted them to take care of the arrangements.

I chose to bring him home and they said they would provide a little casket. I got there to pick him up and the whole staff was upset. The tech that brought him out to me was crying so hard she couldn't talk. They had his little box wrapped in rainbow paper, had the beautiful Rainbow Bridge poem attached to his box on the top and had made a tombstone and pasted it to the one of the ends of the box. It has his name, date of death and a little stamp of a puppy on it and they made him a beautiful plaque with all 4 of his actual paw prints and his name (wrong name, but not their fault and a long story!).

I was so impressed with everyone there and after the treatment with our regular vet last night, this clinic will become our new vet. They do regular vet care during the day and are open 24/7 for emergencies.

Here's his beautiful little box and plaque.

RIP Baby Roxy. You will be missed.
Thank you to all of you for your prayers, comments and support. It means more to me than you can ever know.

Carla~ I am so sorry for your loss of Roxy! We had to put our almost 13 year old dog to sleep on December 14th, she had cancer and was going blind. We both know that at least our dogs are not suffering and are in a better place. Isn't the Rainbow bridge poem wonderful? Pixie passed it along to me in December.

Critically ill puppy :-(

Wednesday, January 12, 2011

This evening one of our puppies started having what appeared to be seizures and was making a low pitched whining noise. At first I thought he was having trouble breathing and grabbed him and the bulb syringe and tried to suction his little mouth and nose to no avail. The whining noise got progressively louder.

I tried to call our vet and got no answer so Meghan and I grabbed him up and drove him there since it was just a few minutes past his closing time. He was inside but wouldn't open the door. I frantically told him I had an ill puppy and he opened the door but over the puppies loud cries and Meghan's crying he said "sorry I'm closed and I don't have time, you'll have to go somewhere else" We raced to the emergency vet clinic about 10 more minutes away.

They immediately took him back to do an exam and try to stabilize him. The vet couldn't listen to his lungs over his loud whining so she did an X-ray...his lungs were clear and he was breathing fine. She said the whining was because he was in pain and gave him some pain medication. While there he had a seizure. She gave him Valium for that and between the two he went to sleep and looked comfortable. She said he's a very healthy weight (he was 1.8 pounds and is 8 days old) and looks great physically and the whole body X-ray showed no signs of any problem. After more of an exam and history of his behavior the hour before her best determination is that he has a brain injury. Most likely from him Mom stepping on him. She said it happens all the time that Moms accidentally step on them and hurt or kill them. She's giving him IV Mannitol to reduce any brain swelling and Valium to keep him calm and pain medication. The Manitol should work if it is swelling, BUT if there is bleeding in his brain the Manitol will make it worse and kill him. She recommended 24 hours of medication and then will reasses. If no improvement, she recommends putting him to sleep. If improvement, then great. Only time will tell....

They are giving him tube feedings during the night to keep him hydrated.

Here is is very comfortable after his pain med and valium

and here he is getting his Mannitol

We left with him comfortable and wil check on him in the morning. Please keep him in your thoughts. They had his bed ready with oxygen and a pump to give fluids in his IV catheter if needed. He wasn't in it yet when we left.

New spark name-no longer Runa5K2010

Monday, January 10, 2011

After much thought, I finally came up with a new spark name! I wanted something that reflected me more. I had picked Runa5k2010 last year as that was my goal for the year. I ran several 5K's so I needed something different and decided that a goal wouldn't make a good name for me if I had to change it each time I met it.

Pink is my favorite color, breast cancer awareness is a big passion of mine and I am working towards being more fit.

This name is one that I can stick with for the duration as I get fit in 2011!
