Loads of rain!

Wow...3+ hours to get to work today. Our area got anywhere from 3-9+ inches of rain today depending on where you are and much more on the way this evening into the morning. There was major flooding and water rescues through some parts of Fairfax. I had trouble getting through all the gigantic puddles but fortunately didn't run into any flooded roads like a lot of people did!

This was at the Lincoln Memorial in DC:

We sure did need the rain, but wow, a little at a time would have been nice, LOL

Definitely will need plan B for exercise this evening as I don't want to go out in the big puddles everywhere. I know a lot of people love to run in the rain but I'm not ready for that yet :-)

As much rain as we got, other parts of the East Coast got even more. I hope everyone stays safe.

    Glad yesterday is behind us. Like you, I'd rather exercise outdoors. So, I opted for my plan B and did stationary bike and elliptical machines at the gym. Great weekend upon us now here in NY. Enjoy!

  Yep, lots of rain. I ran indoors too yesterday. I live in the city and the bus on the way to work was almost a half-hour late, which is even worse than normal!

    Here in New York we are getting rain also, it's been raining all day. We haven't started flooding yet and I hope it doesn't. That was some picture you took, it almost looks like a manmade waterfall not a mother nature made one. Rainy Monday

I am determined to start this week great and continue it great! The rain won't stop me :-) I will stop at the gym on the way home tonight instead of my normal walk/run outside.

I have my lunch packed and dinner ready for most of the week.

I hope everyone else has a great week planned!

Today was actually a good day at work (sorry Louisa!). It was busy, but not crazy and I got a lot done. I didn't stay late like I normally do and came home while it was still light out. I went to the grocery store after I had been home and picked up Meghan and couldn't understand why the pharmacy was open so late. I am always there late, late at night and all I ever see are the windows rolled down so it threw me to see someone there!

I cooked a bunch of veggies (peppers, zucchini, tomatoes, onions, asparagus and spinach) added some lean italian turkey sausage and I had that over whole wheat pasta and a side of green beans with pine nuts. Yummy! That's lunch tomorrow and the rest is already put in individual freezer containers for later.

Then I went bike riding! I got 45 minutes in for my September 780 fitness minute challenge. It's so nice out I think I'm going to go take a walk now, not a fast one or a run/walk combo, but just a nice quiet leisurely walk.

Thanks to everyone on my Ruby team for the comments on my page being page of the day today with Bobbi's! I love our team and there are SO many awesome pages out there. I have really enjoyed looking at them all and am glad there will be 2 per day. I can't wait for Sparktoberfest either....that was my 1st challenge and was one of my favorites!

I doubt I'll be this lucky tomorrow to get home early and do all I got to do tonight, so I'm going to enjoy what's left!

    I noticed the Pharmacy that I usually attend extended their hours, also. That is a big advantage for me to still purchase medicine on the exact same day instead of having to burn up more gas in returning back the next day for pick up. Boy your veggie dish sounds delicious including asparagus, spinach, zucchini, peppers, tomatoes, onions & Italian turkey sausage over wheat pasta with green beans.

    Wow- I can honestly say that was nothing like my Monday but you deserve a good day.
I worked until 12:20 AM last might or should I say this morning? But I took a 45 minute break for a run.

    Your dinner sounds really good. CONGRATS ON PAGE OF THE DAY. How was your walk? I still can't walk much because the jolt makes my shoulder hurt trying to hold it up. I need to remember to just let my arm rest in the sling instead of trying to support it myself. Hope you have a goof Tuesday. emoticon

The Totally Awesome 80's Rootin' for Ruby Challenge!

Tomorrow starts my Rootin' for Ruby teams Totally 80's challenge.

I am a Material Girl! How cool is that!?!

We are going to have fun rocking through one of the best decades as we lose weight and increase our exercise.

I was just looking at everyone's Spark page. What wonderful creative members we have! I've had so much fun going around to them all.

    I miss the bowling days, roller skating & dance club hopping to pop tunes of the 80's. Thanks to my Apple Ipod, I can download all of my 80's favorite songs from Itunes to listen while I workout. It does bring back great childhood memories shakin' my booty to the dance beat while burning calories.

  Sounds like a lot of fun. My favorite exercise in the 80s was roller disco. Unfortunately, there aren't many roller rinks around any more.

To continue to do well this month and onward! I am being extra careful to make sure I get plenty of healthy calories each day and to pay attention to all of my other ranges too. I spent 2 days this week grilling and making enough food to last all week so I had good choices available for my busy 12 hour days. I grilled mango curry chicken and veggies:
butternut squash with Indian spices:

I also grilled seasoned chicken breasts and froze them all individually and loads of fresh veggies, sweet potatoes, chicken breast burgers (I mixed chopped spinach, jalepenos, a red pepper and Mrs Dash's onion and herb in them before grilling). I made a large pot of black and red quinoa and a pot of whole wheat pasta. I can come home and just pop the items in the microwave and have quick dinners without a lot of time.

I've also worked hard to make sure I try to increase my work outs. I almost always did 2 hours a day of fitness activities, but many times it was just walking and nothing else. Walking is great, don't get me wrong, but I needed to add more variety and jump start things so I've increased strength training and added new items each day to what I do. I'm working really hard on trying to add more running into my walks. This is me a few nights ago after a walk/run. It was only 30 minutes, but it was so humid outside it felt like hours.

Last night I walked for 5.7 miles. Tonight I think I'm going to rest and figure out what new activity I can add for tomorrow. I'm on a roll!

    Congratulations on getting those meals done all at one time so that you have something quick to eat that is healthy. They sound great. I like foods that have been grilled and have time for the flavors to develop.

    Wow - the next get together we should bring recipes - I would love your mango chicken, chicken burgers and the butternut squash recipes. I think that many of us are re-evaluating our fitness plan and committing to healthy eating again. It is the back-to-school mentality.

I am impressed by the 5.7 miles. 1 mile more would have been a 10K - wow. You continually inspire me with your fitness.
