I am determined!

To continue to do well this month and onward! I am being extra careful to make sure I get plenty of healthy calories each day and to pay attention to all of my other ranges too. I spent 2 days this week grilling and making enough food to last all week so I had good choices available for my busy 12 hour days. I grilled mango curry chicken and veggies:
butternut squash with Indian spices:

I also grilled seasoned chicken breasts and froze them all individually and loads of fresh veggies, sweet potatoes, chicken breast burgers (I mixed chopped spinach, jalepenos, a red pepper and Mrs Dash's onion and herb in them before grilling). I made a large pot of black and red quinoa and a pot of whole wheat pasta. I can come home and just pop the items in the microwave and have quick dinners without a lot of time.

I've also worked hard to make sure I try to increase my work outs. I almost always did 2 hours a day of fitness activities, but many times it was just walking and nothing else. Walking is great, don't get me wrong, but I needed to add more variety and jump start things so I've increased strength training and added new items each day to what I do. I'm working really hard on trying to add more running into my walks. This is me a few nights ago after a walk/run. It was only 30 minutes, but it was so humid outside it felt like hours.

Last night I walked for 5.7 miles. Tonight I think I'm going to rest and figure out what new activity I can add for tomorrow. I'm on a roll!

    Congratulations on getting those meals done all at one time so that you have something quick to eat that is healthy. They sound great. I like foods that have been grilled and have time for the flavors to develop.

    Wow - the next get together we should bring recipes - I would love your mango chicken, chicken burgers and the butternut squash recipes. I think that many of us are re-evaluating our fitness plan and committing to healthy eating again. It is the back-to-school mentality.

I am impressed by the 5.7 miles. 1 mile more would have been a 10K - wow. You continually inspire me with your fitness.

Back to school and normal routines

Today Meghan went back to school. She's in the 10th grade. Gone are the leisurely evenings with no homework or school activities to do.

At least I can get back to a more normal routine! I'm really looking forward to fall and pumpkins and the cooler weather! Bring on the pumpkins!

  There are so many good and bad things about the start of school - Good is that we do much better as a family with a routine. Bad - days are getting shorter and there is not as much sunlight to be outside. However, soon we will have crisp fall weather that I absolutely love! Good Luck with your activities this fall!

    Funny thing is... I'm actually looking forward to the routine that we have during the school year. The whole family lacked a lot of discipline over the summer (including me... I was hitting snooze til the last possible minute).

Or maybe it's just because it makes it easier for me to run again. ;)

    I hate the lack of flexibility with homework and stress - especially this year with all three of the at home. But I am trying to keep positive and realize that these are the last few years of kids at home and those "family" years - I want to cherish them.

Spark friend meet up

Today was a beautiful day! Breezy, not hot...just perfect. It was more perfect because I got to spend several hours with old and new Spark friends from the NOVA Sparkers team. It was really nice to meet people new to our meet ups and to see old friends. Thank you all for a great time! And thank you Wanda for the taste of the choco wine! I will definitely not be buying any, LOL....I could easily do some calorie damage as good as it was!

Update on Mom

Just a quick update to let all of Mom's Ruby-Lite Spark friends know that she did fine during surgery today. They were very delayed due to a bad injury on a patient her doc had to take care of first so instead of an am surgery, it started about 2 pm.

He repaired the bicep tears, rotator cuff tears, labrum tear and cleaned out a lot of the arthritis.

I talked to her this evening and she's still very groggy. She has a morphine pump but since the anesthesiologist did a regional block along with her general anesthesia, her entire shoulder, arm and hand are still completely numb tonight so she hasn't yet felt a need to use it.

She may get to come home tomorrow, but more likely Saturday he said.

She just wanted me to update all her friends. She has no idea when she will be sparking again. She will be in a sling for 6 weeks with very limited motion allowed and then physical therapy for the following 6 weeks. She's hoping she can at least get on each day to log in and maybe type a few words with her left hand.

Thanks to all of you for the good wishes. I read her all of them tonight when I spoke with her.

She said to send her love to all her Ruby Lite friends :-)

9/3 She came home late today. Very nauseous and sleepy with the meds. Thanks for all the well wishes!

    Glad she's doing okay. She may be sore for a while, and the pt may take much longer than that. I didn't have surgery for my torn rotator cuff, but I spent a year in therapy getting it to heal! Thoughts and prayers with you all!

New month, new start!

Well, summer is just about over and once again I did not reach the goal I had set for myself.

I had a fairly good month after deciding I needed to re commit myself in order to move on and do all I should have done. Many thanks to my Spark friends for your continued support and encouragement and a special big thanks to LLTS01 for her extra support! Your daily friendly little reminders and our text exchanges really helped keep me on track. I had a few bad days, but overall did really well. You're the best!!

Today is emoticon of a new month and one in which I am determined to succeed! I'm going to work really hard to have ALL good days this month.

*I will track each day....every BLT (bite, lick and taste!)
*I will get a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise in each and every day. Thanks to TURTLE421 for her 780 Minute Fitness Challenge!
*I will drink all my water each day
*I will continue to get all my GHG (good health guidelines) in each day

Last year I lost almost 50 pounds in 6 months by eating well and exercising consistently. It's a shame now a year later I am still right about at the same place I was last year. I guess the good thing is that I'm still here and still plugging along, that I didn't gain all my weight back and that I pretty much have maintained (give or take the same few pounds). It's time to break that cycle though and get back into the losing mode. There is no reason I shouldn't reach my goal by the end of the year if I put my mind to it!

    I have faith in you that you will succeed in loosing more weight. I wish you the very best of luck on reaching your weight loss goal. I have just lost 5 pounds myself & still struggling with many more pounds to loose down the road.

    It's not a shame at all that you are where you were last year. Maintaining is harder than anything in the world. You have established a solid foundation and you are exercising and eating healthy. You should be immensely proud of that.

    Amazing that you've held your weight for a year!! Good for you! I have been stuck for a long time, too and know how frustrating that is. You are determined and dedicated. You can do this. It may take longer than you'd like but you will get there.
