C25K Week 2

Sunday, June 27, 2010

I'm off to start week 2 of C25K. At first I thought I might need to do week 1 again and get into this very slowly, but I know I've got it in me to run at 90 second intervals!

I'm ready with my iPod. Yes, Simone, it was so simple and I can't believe I had to have Meghan show me, LOL.

My Garmin is on, including chest strap and foot pod. I'm really excited to see how things progress each week when it can track so many things for me.

It's down to 80 at the moment with humidity at 70%, but I have a bottle of water with me so I should be good to go!

Wish me luck, LOL.

I still struggle with the Ipod - I can't seem to load my songs vs anyone else's. I push the wrong buttons - so frustrating to me. Good luck with the C25K. It is supposed to be much nicer weather this week.

A few before pics I came across...and a couple of

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

It amazes me when I look at before pics of myself, because for the most part, I really didn't realize I was this much bigger. Yes, I knew I hated shopping because my normal size didn't fit anymore and yes, I knew I was bigger than I should be, but it's odd to me that until I saw a picture of myself, I wasn't really bothered with trying to change because I wasn't seeing the me that everyone else was. Here are a few of those pics

Amazing what watching what I ate and making a real effort to change did.

These are pics from this year:

I still have about 25 pounds to reach my goal. I can't wait to see what the rest of the year brings and post pics again once I'm there.

I agree - it is so hard to gauge where you are when you start. One thing that I noticed in the "after" pictures is not only do you physically look better and healthier but you look so much more confident and at peace. Isn't wonderful the affect having control over something that for me was out of control.

Fruits and veggies, in pictures

Monday, June 21, 2010

My fruit trees are really starting to fill up. The fruits are still small, but they are plentiful. Last year the squirrels ate or knocked off every single pear. So far this year they have pretty much left them alone (knock on wood!)

The apples are starting to come along too.

Here are some of the grape vines:

We also have plums, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries each year.

I'm really looking forward to when everything is ready. Our vegetables are kind of iffy this year. The tomato plants are coming along really well (we have about 100 plants of different varieties), but the moles keep eating the beans, squash and cabbage. Everything else is doing well-beets, okra, corn, peas, turnips, potatoes, peppers, pumpkins, watermelons and cantaloupe. We ended up putting some plants in big pots closer to the house so those are pretty safe, but the large garden is taking a big hit :-( We've replanted like 4 weeks in a row now. Finally this week we went the entire week with nothing eaten...keeping fingers crossed.

Here are a few of the veggies:

Let's just hope everything continues to come along. I really look forward to this time of year when everything is growing and will be ready to pick soon.

This is a photo from last year. This is the amount I took into work and gave away each week...above what we kept and used or froze! To get an idea of how much is actually here, all of those white buckets are the 5 gallon paint bucket sized buckets.

I can only hope this years garden does even half as well! If it does, all of my NOVA Spark friends can get plenty of fruits and veggies to make their minimum of 8 fruits and veggies per day :-)

Wow - my daughter wrote her senior college thesis on food and why eating local and fresh was healthy for us and the planet. She would love to grow a big garden like that - but we do not have the land. You are just so luck y to have that variety of veggies and all of the trees as well. i hope that you have a bumper crop this year.

Week 2 challenge, day 1

Monday, June 14, 2010

I did good today!! I got way more fruit and veggie servings (at least 14-15, didn't actually count them up), I got 86 gms of protein!! (I usually struggle to get my minimum of 60) And I did a higher intensity cardio today!!

While I've always tracked my food, I decided to make my food tracker public too after talking to Louisa. I loved looking at hers and getting ideas and if everyone can see it, I'm more likely to make sure everything is good emoticon

I'm working on tomorrows menu now....and the treat to myself for the first half of the week.

I'm really glad you set these challenges up Louisa. I have them on my Ruby teams too...different ones... and all together I'll eventually be a lean, mean running machine :-)

I know what you mean, I am much more conscious of my trackers now that I made them public. I do keep it honest though I was cringing enter my calories on Saturday (eeps!)

WTG on your protein - I have the same issues on my in-calorie range days, greek yogurt with breakfast has helped though.

Keep up the good work!!

NOVA Sparkers

Saturday, June 12, 2010

I really enjoyed my monthly NOVA Sparkers meeting today! We are a great little team and I love how since it's a local team we can do things together.

I walk with some buddies, we are doing races together, we shop together and I have a great gym/spin buddy. I have enjoyed each and every person and what they bring to our team. It's so neat to actually meet people in person.

Today was so relaxing to just sit and chat. I had a treat...a blended turtle mocha (ooops.....sorry Louisa, it was my 3rd treat this week, I forgot I had already had 2!--so I failed one out of 3 parts to this weeks challenge). Good thing the rest of my day of eating was light because it was almost half of my daily calories! Next month I'll have something more along the lines of just an iced coffee! I got recipe ideas, encouragement on running, info on BodyBuggs and Garmins and just had a generally nice afternoon. A couple of us went to REI afterwards and a really cute store called Lucy's, which specializes in womens fitness outfits. We found a really cool work out shirt with a great built in bra that Monica had told us about. They had my size and it even looked ok, but they only had my size in blue and all my work out stuff is pretty much black or pink. It was a bit pricey too....so I will save until I can get it and matching blue bottoms :-)

I've come to really enjoy the friends I've met here and am already looking foward to next months meeting! Thanks guys!!

I am so sorry that I was unable to make it this time. It sounds like a wonderfully supportive team. Maybe in July I can get there. I have heard about Lucy's. It is very pricey and I don't want to buy anything there until I get closer to goal. It will be nice then as a reward to buy something cute that I will have for awhile.
