NOVA Sparkers

Saturday, June 12, 2010

I really enjoyed my monthly NOVA Sparkers meeting today! We are a great little team and I love how since it's a local team we can do things together.

I walk with some buddies, we are doing races together, we shop together and I have a great gym/spin buddy. I have enjoyed each and every person and what they bring to our team. It's so neat to actually meet people in person.

Today was so relaxing to just sit and chat. I had a treat...a blended turtle mocha (ooops.....sorry Louisa, it was my 3rd treat this week, I forgot I had already had 2!--so I failed one out of 3 parts to this weeks challenge). Good thing the rest of my day of eating was light because it was almost half of my daily calories! Next month I'll have something more along the lines of just an iced coffee! I got recipe ideas, encouragement on running, info on BodyBuggs and Garmins and just had a generally nice afternoon. A couple of us went to REI afterwards and a really cute store called Lucy's, which specializes in womens fitness outfits. We found a really cool work out shirt with a great built in bra that Monica had told us about. They had my size and it even looked ok, but they only had my size in blue and all my work out stuff is pretty much black or pink. It was a bit pricey I will save until I can get it and matching blue bottoms :-)

I've come to really enjoy the friends I've met here and am already looking foward to next months meeting! Thanks guys!!

Glad you ladies had a good time. Sorry I had to miss this one. The graduation plans are getting in the way but it is a good thing. Did you bring the cherries you promised?

I had a GREAT time seeing everyone too! It is great to get encouragement from people with the same goals as well as ideas on getting more fruits & veggies & protein in.

I am glad you found a top you liked at Lucy's. I already know what I want for my next purchase there, but it will be a reward for another goal!

I am so sorry that I was unable to make it this time. It sounds like a wonderfully supportive team. Maybe in July I can get there. I have heard about Lucy's. It is very pricey and I don't want to buy anything there until I get closer to goal. It will be nice then as a reward to buy something cute that I will have for awhile.

The Ruby Lites

Thursday, June 10, 2010

I was a member of SparkPeople for a few months before a WW friend invited me to join the Rootin' for Ruby team. It was one of the best things I've ever done! The people were so welcoming and friendly. I felt at home almost immediately.

I've made so many great friends there, some of us even had a mini Ruby Lite convention and got to spend the day together! It was awesome and will be a treasured memory for a long time to come.

They have challenges that are really fun and bring us all together even more. The current challenge is "4 by the 4th" where we are all working on losing 4 (or more) pounds by the 4th of July. Pixie and the other team leaders make these challenges so much fun and they sure deserve a pat on the back for all that they do on a daily basis!

It's a very active team and I'm very happy to be a part of it! Thanks to each and every Ruby-Lite for making our team such a great place and so much fun to be a part of. emoticon

Yes I belong too and they are a great team. If you would like to start a challenge for WW Support Team I invite you to lead that part of the team. Just post one and keep track. Being active on our team can be a benefit to our team (in the form of a challenge) and especially for you because you are receiving support and reinforcement in your weight-loss journey.

Giving running more of a try

Tuesday, June 08, 2010

Ok, the weather was so nice when I got home tonight that I decided to try to make a big effort to run more instead of my normal walking. It didn't go too badly....even in the dark.

I only went about 2 miles but I ran more than I walked! I started walking and then ran to something up ahead, like the next corner, or the next traffic light. It helped to have a landmark to go to, knowing I could walk once I reached it if I needed or wanted to.

I was really proud of myself for making the effort and for the much shorter walking periods.

Most days I walk 90 minutes with no running at all. I'm beginning to think maybe I can become a runner after all. emoticon

Oh me too! Its real slow going. I still walk more than I run (ok, its not running its more like plodding) but I'm doing it. I am seeing myself running a marathon- running into my 60's, 70's and beyond.
Keep trying.. lets encourage each other!

Excited about tomorrow!

Friday, June 04, 2010

Tomorrow, me and 16 other Spark friends from the Northern Virginia Spark Team, are headed to Washington DC to do the Susan G Komen Global Race for the Cure.

I am so excited to be able to participate!

Our team fundraising goal was $2000 and we way surpassed that!

emoticon to everyone who worked so hard to make that possible! emoticon

We have to be in DC at 6:30 am and they are expecting hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world, so it's bedtime for me!

See you all in the morning!
