A 'real' running store

Sunday, May 02, 2010

Today I drove to Springfield and ventured into my first real running store. I've previously bought shoes at Modell's or the like. I really enjoyed browsing, picked up quite a few packs of GU in various forms-some quite yummy, looked around at the cute little outfits I will fit in one day and signed up for a Mother-daughter Mother's day 4.67 mile walk.

They had a lot of literature and calendars with all sorts of activities I didn't know existed. I wish they were closer, but the bonus was they were in the same shopping center as Trader Joes! (I don't have one near me at all and usually drive to Centreville when I go).

Now it's time to sit down and plot out what run or walk I want to sign up for next.

Not sure if you're close to Falls Church/Tyson's, but we've got Potomac River Running and Trader Joe's in the same plaza too! Life is truly wonderful in places like that... and also a Roadrunner Sports a little east on 7 from there. Love them both!

You are a running machine - that is so great that you have found something that you are so passionate about. I went to several "real" running stores when I was having rehab problems and bought special shoe inserts. Now I want to go back and buy some shoes. The doctor forbids me from running but I still want to walk/jog the canal and I do gym stuff. Glad you had fun.

Thanks for posting that Carla. I will attempt to do better weight wise but I'm not sure on the fitness minutes. I'm a little weak and don't want to push it.

That is an amazing statistic - over 70 minutes per day per person. What a great team and you must be a motivational leader - wow. Seriously fired up and good weight loss too.

Thank you all for the birthday goodies and wishes!

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

I just wanted to thank each and every one of you for the goodies and birthday wishes. My blackberry beeped all day long with one after the other. It was really nice!

I had a good day. Co-workers at lunch bought me a nice lunch...healthy too! I get a lot of support there and several co-workers are eating much healthier and losing weight too! A few of them joined SP which is a good thing.

I got a gift certificate for a massage from my daughter and I'm going to book that really soon.

I got a Sony Book reader (I love reading!) and can't wait to start downloading books to it.

I got a breast cancer bracelet from a friend on my WW message boards. That was touching and thoughtful and I'm going to wear it when I do the Susan G. Komen 5K in June.

Thank you all again for making my day!

We got a trampoline!

Sunday, April 18, 2010

I haven't jumped on a trampoline since I was a kid in PE in high school....a long time ago, LOL.

My husband brought one home yesterday for Meghan for an early birthday present.

Aaron came over and helped us put it together. He bought the enclosure for it so we don't have to worry (as much) about someone falling off.

Aaron can jump A LOT higher than I can! :-)

He had to help me at first (it's really blurry!)

but then I got the hang of it. My legs are still really sore from the 10K yesterday, but by the end of the day I was jumping all around all by myself.

I'm looking forward to using it every day for a different and fun kind of exercise....just in time for our Fit Challenge :-)

Oh wow, I'm so jealous! I would LOVE to have a trampoline, but we can't afford one and our yard is much too small anyway. I bet that is a fun way to burn some calories!

you go girl! you are definitely keeping yourself young, LOL. we had a trampoline (minus the safety net of course) for over 15 years. Got it for adam when he was 3 and it was the most used thing in my back yard! Got rid of it when i started working full time and little kids from all around the neighborhood needed constant supervision. i am NOT the babysitter, LOL

HAVE FUN! emoticon emoticon

Kyle Wilson 10K Walk for Fitness-May he RIP and his dreams be continued

Saturday, April 17, 2010

Kyle Wilson died at age 24, in the line of duty, fighting a fire here in PWC on 4/16/07

Kyle's passion was health and fitness, so since then, his family, friends and co-workers organized and run an annual walk for fitness in his honor.

He went to our local high school and was a couple years ahead of my boys, and this is the 3rd year I've participated. I went with my friend Torrie:
and my daugther, Meghan:

At the beginning of the race they had fire trucks set up and they announced if anyone wanted to run they should come to the beginning of the track.

I got caught up in the excitement and we headed that way. They counted down and said go and at that time they sounded the sirens and off we went! I intended to run as long as I could, but the whole route was full of hills so that didn't last too long, LOL.

It's funny you don't notice those hills when you drive that route!

We finished in 1:48...went back to take the picture after crossing the finish line:

It was a great experience and for a great cause and I look forward to doing it next year!

May you RIP Kyle....

What a great cause. I would have joined you has I known how this weekend turns out. Hey- maybe next year.

Funny thing about hills- I am so much more conscious of them now that I run. What appears a flat long road to my hubby, looks like a hilly route to me.
