I got a wonderful gift from my dear friend Karen. SH sent me a card for Mother's day, butnot just any old card. This is a card from the Oblates and they are saying a Novena for me! I send them vibes, hoping it is for my health. For those that do not know what a Novena is, ,example, : My mom was born blind. My Grandma prayed for one month, every day, a novena for my mom to get her eyesight. SH had taken her to teh doctor(1926-27) and they said there was nothing they could do, to put her in an institution. Grandma refused, said the prayers from St. Theresa of Avila. At the end of the month of her prayers, her doctor called, telling her that his buddy that eh went to Med school with, was experimenting on a new surgical technique, could Gram take mom down to Ann Arbor to University of Michigan Hospital?

The next morning Grandma did, they did, mom was cured!! It took them a whole day to get there from here, less than 100 miles away, on a bus on two lane roads.

For almost two years nobody could do anything, no known help for this, but the very night(an hour after Grandma finished praying) this eye specialist, out of the clear blue sky, called my Grandma's doctor to say that his doc friend, who had not talked to him for over ten years, could do this!!!
I am blessed!

More rain this morning, no walk, but lots of cardio at work,, moving things around,, cleaning at home,,
now it is windy, warm(56 degrees) and partly cloudy, but no rain so far this afternoon.. Just hanging around, cleaning, paying bills, but I did call the resort on Lake Superior to credit card my deposit for AUgust!! Happy, happy, joy, joy!! kathy and I talked about what is in this much larger cabin, then I told her that Steve told me there was no price increase for me,, so I get the old prices, while everybody else who reserved later(I was anxious, I reserved an August cabin in January!) pays much more..
SH elaso informed me that when I was huckleberry picking alone in teh forest and heard what I thought could be a bear, might have been a moose,, not much better news,, at least with a bear, I can climb a tree to get away,, cannot outrun a moose!!
SH did tell me taht Steve was walking on the trail back there and a bear crossed the road about 30 feet in front of him, so he did the usual scare tactic,, anybody that lives or goes north(here and north of here) knows what it is.

DD and I will be picking this summer, so we will be back-to-back picking so we can view the forest from both directions.
I am ready to start packing RIGHT NOW!!

Would love to see pictures of your animal friends. I don't know the scar tactics but we have been having black bears about 20 miles from us. Keep seeing it on the news.
Glad you got your reservations early and saved a bundle.

Sounds like fun times ahead! You do know that bears appear to be slow, but they can run as fast as 45 mph!

Finally, a nice day!

Tuesday, May 08, 2012

We have sunshine! I can hear lawn mowers for miles!! Everybody is trying to be one step ahead of the next crummy day.. tomorrow.. In Michigan, you can have rain on one side of the street for hours, while your neighbor has sunny skies and no rain,, Our doors are only about80 feet apart!!

have a work meeting this afternoon until 7pm.. got to pick up a handicapped co-worker, so leaving pretty early. Making calls, setting up appointments for later in the week, still awaiting insurance man to call me back,,

just left a voice mail with resort owner in Yoopee to leave my credit card number s with him,, turns out he is in Sault St. Marie for the day.. missed him by a half hour... bummer..

time to be domestic and do some laundry and dishes.
I cannot believe there is finally sunshine here!! It is overwhelming!!

We have pouring rain again in Maine. The Apple blossom is flowering but the bees cannot get out to fly in such heavy rain. The Apple crop will not be good if we do not have rain soon.
I am glad you have better weather -You deserve a break from the cold.

Sunshine - seems to be a healer of all things. We had a great sunny day here on Sunday - actually sat out in the lawnchairs in the backyard tanning - then rain and cold for the next two days!

The next sunny day is the one that you keep looking towards - the feel of the sun on the face is so rejuvenating!

High price of mail

Monday, May 07, 2012

I just came home from the post office. A lady in line had purchased a shipping box, a roll of shipping tape, postage. Total cost : $40.89!!! She did not insure it, no high priority.. just regular first class. The box was rather large about the size of one that a case of printer paper comes in, but still.. whatever was in it was fragile because she said she wrapped the whole shebang in a woman's bathrobe!!
For that kind of dough, she could have gotten a train ticket to someplace, saw a concert, had lunch, bought a balloon, took a cab, gave a great tip, and STILL have change.. well, maybe I exaggerate, but still.. hope it was going out of the country,, that is one steep package!!
By the time I got to the front of the line, I had mentally calculated which organ I would have to sell to post this huge envelope I had with 50 pages of documents in it!! turns out, I can keep my kidneys and liver,, only shelled out $1.50!! Whew!!

Yet another reason I take my friend's Christmas gifts with me in August, rather than mailing them in December. Two years ago it cost me more than what all of the gifts were worth!!

If the post office would charge all of these businesses and companies for their stuff, postage would be cheaper, and we'd all get less junk mail.

Maybe because the Post office does not get many letters or cards to send but they still need the carriers and they are very well paid.
Paid mostly to deliver junk mail to our house.I told the carrier not to waste his time on junk mail in our box.
His answer was without junk mail I will be out of a job. I never thought of that.

Pat in Maine. At the end of the chain for sure. emoticon

Unbelievable!!! I don't know how the costs of postage just keeps going higher and higher and they complain when they threaten to close some of the post offices or reduce their hours.

I agree shipping costs are crazy - buy through an internet company with free shipping and send the package to them that way - not wrapped but geezz............. they should understand. Amazon has lots of items with free shipping over $25 worth of merchandise (it has to say free shipping on the listing, but lots of items qualify.

COld.cold.cold!

Sunday, May 06, 2012

I would so love to be out in the yard, mowing, cleaning up blizzard debris, etc, but more rain, windy, cold! I actually woke up in the middle of the night because I was cold with a quilt, blanket, flannel nightie. I could not bear to get out form under the covers again, so I wiggled my feet and got my thick fleece winter robe pushed forward from the cedar chest at the end of my bed and dragged it across part of me. Within seconds I drifted off...

Cities south of us are flooded and people are dragging their belongings out of the muddy mess that is the inside of their house. I am grateful that the tornado did not touch down here and that we got no hail damage or flooding.
