busy day

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

Had an early work day , so made plans with DD to go to parents house, pick up some toiletries for the mom,, then to Walgreen for more old lady stuff:denture cleaner tablets, deodorant, body wash,,,
got to moms living place and she was snoring loudly, could not tap her awake, so instructed staff that we brought everything they called me about yesterday,, aide then asks:Did you bering her razors?" HUH??
It is 12 miles round trip with a gazillion traffic lights, trains, bridges,etc.. I use double the gas in my car to drive those 12 miles than I do for a whole week to get to work!!! and back!!

Razors are next trip,,, did not even ask what needs to be shaved, do not want to know either..
had lunch, doing laundry, more calls to V.A. about more paperwork..

it began snowing again during lunch...

    Well dang!
I wonder what a woman your moms age needs razors for, too.
they should ahve a hair salon there at her place that can do facial waxing. Mom used "Neet" or "Nair" when she was in assisted living.
I hope you got some time in with her.

I never thought about that. i assumed (we all know what that makes) that those kinds of things were available at assisted living. Oh dear How little do I know.
It's a good thing I have you to help educate me Linda. HUGS Pat in Maine emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Gosh it is cold out there, right to our bones! flannel everything or insulated everything!! I force myself to stand outdoors for a few minutes to absorb some free Vitamin D,, sunlight,, when the sun comes through the clouds,, this is the first day I have seen an icicle this winter!! It has not been warm enough for anything to melt after a snowfall..

LINDA, we were raised wearing flannel in England if it was not flannel it was wool. Not the merino They talk about on this site but the coarse itchy stuff.
My mother discovered that wool made me itch so she bought Lanolin to put on my chapped legs. They got so much worse the Dr told her not to use anything. She switched to putting vaseline and flannel on my legs and they healed. When I had skin issues over here the Allergist said I was allergic to Lanolin. I would love to try merino leggings, I am hoping to find some on sale soon so I will have them for next year. We are cold today because of high winds so despite the sun it is still no walking weather yet, J\ emoticon emoticon

At least the sunshine was nice and warm coming in through the windows.

I just took my mother to KMart today to buy a new pair of flannel pajamas!

tree snow gone!

Sunday, February 19, 2012

I blogged yesterday that I would take a few pics and post them when it became light outdoors. Four hours later, when it was not dark, but cloudy, the wind picked up, all the snow blew off the trees,, but it was beautiful!! Picture cotton balls stuck to branches.. Sorry it did not stick, but we are not sorry one bit. We only got about two inches of snow, but it is the thick, heavy stuff.. great for snowballs, and snowgals, but horrible for driving.

A poster below said that she drove From Elkton,MI. That i sin the Thumb of Michigan,, they get very bad storms due to the fact that the winds blow right across that Thumb from Lake Huron. On a map, it is not obvious to out-of-staters, but fierce winds cut across that peninsula and sock it to them. It is almost entirely farmland and small towns, so there are really no breaks, like hills or crags to protect them. No bluffs at waters point to stop the force of water and wind. Kind of like Pebble Beach golf course, but hundreds of miles of it jutting out...
it then turned a lot colder, so I went out in the drifts to fill the bird feeder.. two minutes after I went indoors, little sparrows were all over it!! Poor little guys!!
Today is putzing, baking, scrubbing, etc.. I do not do winter, I have never done it, so indoors is it for me.. a trek to the store and pharmacy yesterday was the biggie,, a whole half mile away..

I hear you LINDA, I blogged our Robins are back but winter in Maine is like your winter it is not over till its over. We will have at least one snow fall in April. It is called Poor mans fertilizer.
April 2 we landed in Boston from England . There were remnants of snow under the trees. I said to the people who picked us up at the airport I would have to wait till next year to see a lot of snow and that was the day I heard the expression. Poor Mans Fertilizer. It snowed twice that april after we got here and I remember sending pics home to Mother. HUGS it brought back memories. It would be her birthday on the 28h os February and i think that is why I am in a crappy mood. I long for the warmth of the sun again i am fed up with winter. HUGS Pat in Maine.(((((HUGS))))) emoticon emoticon emoticon
