A day off..

Saturday, January 14, 2012

The snow finally stopped about 10pm last evening,, it is heavy from all the rain and sleet,, what a white mess,, dreaming of our vacation this summer keeps me happy and distracted. This weather keeps the pain levels high though, took a drug to help last evening,, I have too much to do today to sleep today away.. housework and bills never stop... am just happy that my home is intact..

DD and I saw a huge house fire yesterday on the way to parental unit home to check it.. three roads blocked off, too many trucks to count, hoses from two blocks away to get water IN THE BLIZZARD of course..
we both prayed that everybody got out safely and firemen are okay,, one of them is our neighbor..

All of the cities major fires were in the winter. Three since we came here. M massive cotton mill Bates Mill where they made the bedspreads burned for days. A clothing store with apartments on our main street was blazing and the water was freezing on the firemen and ladders. People were making them hot soup and whatever they wanted right in the street. The photos of those Fireman i will always remember. I had a shop on that same street and directly across from my shop the building caught fire and a man died in that one, they were sure he was smoking in bed. Once again firemen were covered in ice. All of those spaces were taken over by the city. Bates was several acres on the river with a Dam. Now it is a city property. The dam was removed and wells ran dry but Eagles Salmon,
Heron and Alewives came back to the river, MEMORIES (((((HUGS))))) Pat in Maine.

LINDA That is our grandsons Birthday too. He will be 14 years old and last time I saw him he was 6 foot 2' almost.

Toady we had about 10 inches to clear from both driveways. We finished and watched some Disks to recover.
I am sitting here Sparking and wondered why such a noise. Thunder and Lightning and what I thought was pouring rain. It was Hail instead and what a racket. It is still cold so the street looks very odd. Just as the hail was tanking down the Mailman walked up the driveway, poor guy, he was talking loud on his cell phone as always and laughing away. Guess talking keeps him happy and warm . Freezing rain tonight. We shall see. We are ready for most things but the wind is also heading our way. HUGS Pat in Maine. Stay warm!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Life is kind of leveling off here,,no trauma this week, no hospital visits, no bad-mom calls from the home...
I am not used to this, there is always something going on.,,,
DD and I are still discussing different things we are going to do on vacation this August!! Not too excited, are we? I am so glad I reserved our cabin in both places.. All we have to do is pack and enjoy the trip up there!! This year I will be prepared for another possible bear encounter in the forest while picking huckleberries!! Either polka music or rap.. both ends of the scale, I figure I will have everything covered in the bear family!!

Bear? You encountered a bear? I didn't read about this. & what did you do? Dance with it?
I'm actually glad there's no drama going on now. Hope it continues that way.

A mild day, nothing special,, still no snow,, Michiganders know better than to even imagine no snow,, so we all wait for the other shoe to drop.. on our heads,, the big one is coming,,,
no plans can be made all winter,, from October till May or June,, it is either rain or snow or sleet or ice storms.. if we are very lucky, no power outages!!

We are supposed to be getting a snow storm on Thursday.
I guess it is time otherwise winter might go on until June and I do not like that idea at all
I walked the rail trail today but only as far as the ice. I really do not like to walk on it.
Snow is so much easier to take in my opinion.

I hear you about the power outages: over the last couple of weeks, we've had tremendous wind storms, really fierce, leaving lots of damage and even injuries to people. Even with branches flying all over and so forth, we didn't lose our power, not even so much as a blip - for which I am truly thankful!!!
