no snow, no sun either

Monday, January 02, 2012

Thank goodness we have lots of clocks and watches here: cannot tell if it is night or day,, no sun at all since last Saturday for about an hour..
No snow either,, freezing rain..
Since this is a leap year, I am going to look forward to little things, try to work harder for a new thing ,,, maybe a different workout..
I am also continuing on making a pointed effort to say something nice to ten people a day,, strangers if at all possible.

I know this MI weather can be a drag during Jan and February. I'm trying not to let it get to me! Saying nice to 10 people a day sounds like a great way to do it! emoticon

What's in store?

Sunday, January 01, 2012

Not one of us knows what is in store for us this year. Will we be left here next December or leave for our better life, as assured us at our birth? Living "as if" is the only way to do it.

AS IF I will never see a person again.
AS IF I will lose my eyesight, hearing, or senses of touch, smell and taste tomorrow.
AS IF I have only today to tell others what they mean to me.
AS IF I do not have the luxury of making my wrongs," right".

Each person is given 24 hours a day, one at a time. If they allow others to control their feelings, actions or everyday life, they have just given that other person THEIR 24 hours ! When I read about people that are emotionally or verbally abused by another person, I see that one guy got 48, the other zip!!
If we are allowed to exist another 364 more days, we have that much time to make that many choices, all of this is our gift; what we CHOOSE to do with it, is our reward or punishment for our choices!! Cannot get any easier than that..

Only 7 1/2 months to go!

Saturday, December 31, 2011

Last night I reserved our cabins for vacation next August!! Most people do it a few months beforehand, but the resort in the Upper Peninsula only has 12 cabins and this one is the largest one for the price. They will call me next spring to re-confirm I still want it and I am getting excited to go already! The other cabin we are staying in for only two nights, is only about a three hour drive form here, but I reserved it also, to assure I get them back-to-back. We will drive to the U.P first, then when we leave there, we will drive back down over the Mackinac Bridge to Indian River,MI.. about a half hour from the bridge,,
when we leave there, we only have a three hour drive home.. DD gets carsick, so this is the best way for her to enjoy it.
In my mind I am already there, unpacking he car and jumping in Lake Superior for a quick swim!!

A swim at this time doesn't sound so good but then in August yes it will sound just lovely.
I bet you are getting excited.

That's great that you have something to look forward to already! I can count the number of times I've been in the U.P. on two hands. I would really like to take a tour of it one of these vacations and get to know my state a little better.

Nothing special today, glad I tore around town all day yesterday, still in a glow about having a door handle on my car,, cannot shake the fact that I still take some things for granted..
I should have added the workout of getting in and out of my car, as a cardio/strength/hot yoga/pilates/step aerobics all rolled into one. Anybody that lives north of Kentucky can appreciate the fact that I also was dragging my thick winter ski jacket, boots, sweatshirt, scarf and gloves around the interior of my car. If not for the leather to slide me all around, I would have had to SLEEP IN the car..

Hoping to relax and disassemble Christmas tree for last time and pack it for garage sale next year..

NEVER take door handles for granted!

Thursday, December 29, 2011

If you read last nights blog you will see that I had no handle on my driver's side car door since Tuesday evening! Now, it may seem like a simple, small thing, BUT think about what it entails to enter a vehicle(not a clown car! emoticon.
For the past two days and nights I have had to enter my car in the garage via passenger door, which is a tight fit next to the lawn tractor and workbench. After wrestling the door open, then I have to place my purse, work lunch bag on the dashboard, put the drivers seat back as far as it will go, then flip the back of it down and back as far is IT will go, then flip the console up in the air. Onward to me dragging my big 'ol butt across the seats, console and under the steering wheel. Trying to fit one big foot under the dash, steering wheel and my chin, I maneuver one leg under the steering wheel. Now I must pull the right leg and foot across the passenger seat until I can cram them as the left side did.. All of this in the dark in the garage, 4:30am, huffing and puffing and knowing my father is watching me from heaven, laughing his German head off...
It would be very easy if I was Olga Korbut, without osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia and about a German Shepherd's body weight glued to mine.

I went to Mike, my car-guy out in the boonies here, and he picked up a new handle,, it is 90% plastic,, for the low, low discount price of $73.19!! It is so cheap and lightweight that he actually made the parts guy open the box because he thought it was empty!! Eventually they did tear off my door panel, install the handle, and tossed on a couple new wiper blades while they were at it.. Apparently, I am the picture of Superwoman strength with my arthritis and carpal tunnel hand that can barely grip the ignition key,, I must have yanked on it too hard to break it!! Parts guy said that.. cannot grip a cotton ball to remove nail polish, but I have this gift of anti-Krypton strength to tear a handle off a Buick!!!
So, next time you are packing that forkful of spinach in your kisser, keep in mind that you may be creating a monster that can disassemble a full sized sedan with your very hand!!!!!

DD and I did go bargain hunting this afternoon, got two Christmas gifts AND I found my little Christmas tree for next year to put on my end table!! Half price and with lights!! Found bargains for both of us and used up free gift cards I got online!! A great day off, but that darned handle was my greatest gift so far!!!

I can really identify with your Herculean efforts to crawl into your car from the passenger side. Years ago, when I was much younger and thinner, I had a car with moisture inside the door panels. On cold days, the door mechanism would freeze up, and the doors wouldn't open.

On freezing days, I would have to open the tailgate, climb through, over the back seat, squeeze between the front seats into the driver's side. By the time I got to work, the car would be warm enough that the doors would open.

The neighbors would gather on the other side of the street to watch me get into my car and drive away, but none of them had the courage to ask why I was doing that. emoticon
