friend day

Monday, November 21, 2011

Dear friend on her way to my house for a visit. We used to work together,,her hubs is my Handyjoe.. not much here,, water dept. called last night before we went to bed to tell us that the street water main was broken and the water would be turned off at 8 a.m., so the one day I could sleep in, I set the alarm for DARK and showered, cleaned kitchen, stove, dishes, DD already filled every thing we own with water for flushing and drinking, cooking, etc..

Kathy and I may take a hike through Tobico Marsh,, check out the wildlife observation towers that were just re-vamped.. 32 degrees, kind of getting chilly out..

Puts me in mind of the old saw 'You don't miss the water till the well runs dry,' lol... Good that you planned ahead. Around here, seems as tho you only get notice AFTER the fact: 'We ran into problems after beginning to repair the water main, so unfortunately you will not have service for the next 24 hours' etc.

BRRRR!!! 32 degrees! I would be freezing now, after 30 years in Texas! I remember when I lived in Michigan, I thought 32 degrees in the spring was balmy!

How things change! emoticon

    Sounds like fun Linda. Enjoy!

I don't know about you but this cooler weather really has my nose a dripping. Usually only when I go outside.

Sunday

had a nice day yesterday,,, we bought eight more green bell peppers for $1.00 which I will freeze for winter use; 12# of apples,, ten varieties,, but Northern Spy is the best for pies, dumplings, any baking if you cannot get Cortlands,,they had no Cortland apples ..
Ran errands, treated DD to lunch, had enough to bring home for dinner. It was tempting to order their decadent desserts, salty, fatty appetizers, but we drank two glasses of water apiece, did eat half the baguette(which is about two inches wide and a foot long), no sauces. I opted for he house salad with raspberry vinaigrette dressing instead of creamy soup.

I visited mother in the morning and did some little jobs around the house that nobody notices until you do not do them,, nothing major,,

Sounds like you ladies will be pretty busy baking apples and such really soon. I have never attempted to make a pie crust before. I usually buy them already made. Doing the edges nice and straight is a mystery to me.

DD wants to go to fruit market and get more apples to make sauce and for crockpot baking. We love apples as snacks and desert. Michigan is a major grower of U.S. apples. We picked from about nine varieties last trip to the market. Just a quick trip and not all the types available either!!
Making a morning run to a friend's Habitat hose that she will be moving into New Years Day to see how they are progressing. They no longer build new homes:they are too costly so they are going the rehab route to save $$. Then a trip to my mother's for a visit. Back home to baking and cleaning..

I DO SO miss the visits to the apple orchards in the fall! We tried to visit one while we were in New York State, but got there 10 minutes too late, and they were closed! Have fun and drink a cup of fresh apple cider for me!

Sounds like it will be another enjoyable one. Its so great to hear your good days out. Make the most of it. I too am an Apple person. At least 3 a day and usually 10 pounds a week. I have to cook them since DH reacts very badly to the skins. We have an epipen so he can eat apples and pears. They are always fine so far when they are skinned and cooked. HUGS Linda Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon
Notice there is no apple here except for the teacher!

Yesterday's Sparkventure

Friday, November 18, 2011

DD and I drove north to meet our new Spark friend, October2842 for some shopping, lunch and Spark bonding!
She was a wonderful hostess, inviting us into her beautiful home for a visit before we all left for the next destination north of us for outlet shopping and lunch. We had a beautiful drive, visiting along the way, then onto that favorite sport of shop/walkers:shop walking!! October even gave us coupons for gift cards which I used to purchase a beautiful sweater! She found treasures in the fun kitchen store and then we went to a local diner for native eats!
The picture here was taken by our very nice waitress after a leisurely lunch of delicious food. I love trying new places, am very familiar with this town, but had never tried this place, a little hole in the wall place, a teensy diner, but my salad was very good, DD and October said their meals were tasty too!

Dd and I would love to return to October's to visit or go on another Sparkventure with her again. A nice lady who, by the way, looks fit and trim Sparkly!!!
Thank you October for inviting us into your beautiful home and your generosity with gift cards!!!

I had a wonderful day also and hope we can do it again. I enjoyed our visit, shopping and lunch. By the way, thanks for lunch, it was a very neat hometown place.

It is the first time I met some Spark Buddies and it was neat. You both were a pleasure. I had no idea Pickie and Tweety were mother and daughter. How fun. I feel like I want to get back at it and be serious about loosing the 14#'s I've gained since I have been slacking. Thanks for the encouragement. emoticon

Sparkventure today!

Thursday, November 17, 2011

Today DD and I are driving north to pick up a fellow Sparker in our Saginaw,MI team, whom we will meet for the first time. We are all going to go further north to West Branch, MI to the shopping outlets and touring the area. We are all familiar with it. Exciting!! Connie camera is going along for the ride to possibly capture some Spark moments!!

Yesterday was a very anxious and surprising day for me. I kept the appointment with my surgeon, thinking we would hash out terms of my return to work next Monday.
Nature had other plans though, and I am now still off work until Dec4, Monday. Due to the diabetes, the epidermis is healed wonderfully, but the nerve endings are healing much slower than normal.
I had my list of things to ask him and get answers to, and was shocked that I will still be away from work,, Income is tight now, but thankfully, last year, many of my friends and I made the decision NOT to exchange Christmas gifts anymore.

I now know that even though I have had no income for three months, it was sound decision to have HandyJoe install attic insulation. I am praying it will help pay for itself this winter....

On the bright side, this will be the first year in about fifteen years that I do not have to work on Thanksgiving day and the day following!! They are the two busiest days of the year for my workplace..
I know that there is always a reason for everything that happens to us, so I have faith that HE is guiding me straight! No hesitation to mind my manners!!
