I have allergies too! It's terrible - and you have to do the yard work, unless you have ooodles of $$$$ to pay someone to do it for you! :( sorry you're suffering.

LINDA I know what you mean about the mold. This year has been better than others. we have had so little rain. The trees are still Green, its amazing for this time of year. I just raked the pine needles for an hour. I am hoping it will be easier to rake in the spring If I do it a lot now. Take care. I use the saline as soon as I come in. I do change my clothes asap too.
I am doing better I gave myself allergy shots for years and i think it has helped with my asthma and mold issues.. HUGS LINDA, Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon

King Tut Exhibition

Sunday, November 06, 2011

My friend Karen invited me to go to the King Tut Exhibition this afternoon. She took her brother to the Delta College planetarium for the partner display of astronomy Thursday, but did not think I would like it. (I love the planetarium!!)
The displays are replicas, since the Egyptian government will no longer release the original artifacts, but they are duplicated right down to the most minute detail. NO pictures allowed.. darn it..
So, I am taking a whirlwind trip to Egypt this afternoon, less than 20 miles from my home!! It is now a pink sunrise, so it should be a beautiful day to be out and about!!

bleach, elbow grease and nature's breath!

Saturday, November 05, 2011

Our carpet smells so nice now, looks so fresh and clean. I use bleach and the official jug-o-cleaner for the steamer. The bleach smell is not too strong, but it sure does get the spots out of the fibers that are too tough for regular solution. It took me 2 1/2 hours to do just the living room and hall. Moving furniture takes time too. I even tried the steamer on my kitchen floor. IT really works great, but leaves the floor wet, so since we store the appliance in the basement, I will not be hauling it upstairs every time I wish to clean the kitchen floor.
Today's project is moving our BBQ grill off the deck, all the way around our yard, through the drive-through gate, into the garage for the winter. We also will be covering our picnic table with our old pool cover.

I also laundered our bedsheets last evening and put them out to dry on the line this morning; it was 52 degrees and a breeze, so nature's breath dried my sheets while I cleaned carpets!

Yesterday morning the U.S. Postal Service kindly moved my mailbox to a new post next to the neighbor's post. They did, however, leave the post I had , STILL STICKING IN THE GROUND!! When I put it in a few years ago, I did sink a new hole, poured a foot of concrete in, so they would have needed a backhoe, or some hydraulics to get it out of the ground.
I guess you could call the new setting "Sparkish" since I now have to walk further and out into the street to get to my mailbox, instead of in my yard. Hopefully, I will not lose any more slippers frozen in THEIR driveway this winter!! We will see....

I'm guessing that your new mailbox that is in front of your neighbors home has a box with a Key? It's more for US Postal Services benerfit rather than the customer.
Get yourself some wading boots for the snowy weather to get the mail. that'll do it. nice to ahve a clean floor isn't it?
Hopefully you will ahve a relaxing Sunday.

LINDA.Good for you. The rugs in here are about to be tackled i have to wait till all the yard work is done. DH has problems with fallen arches and HAS to wear orthotics. At $350.00 a pair they have to get moved around and with carpal tunnel and a replacement finger joint i told him to wipe his feet and keep his shoes on. He does do that but we all know changing shoes would be better. Janet is right though, you should change in to boots, I have zip ups by the back door and leave my cleats on all winetr long.
I wear them in Wallmart and go Click, click. click. it does not bother me i just keep going. HUGS Pat in Maine. I was happy to read your blog today. It sounded like perfect satisfaction at a job done well! Pat emoticon emoticon emoticon

I think we are supposed to use outdoor shoes when retrieving the mail! My slip-ons got left behind on the sidewalk when I walked Oscar on winter days. I guess just because they have hard bottoms doesn't mean they have outdoor uses.

Rather do almost anything else than clean! It's so boring. . . and tedious.

Soon you'll be able to kick back a little bit and ENJOY!

Nothing wrong with cleaning, if you keep on top of it, it gets easier and I feel very satisfied after it is done and looks nice.
Bed sheets out on the line, that is one thing I do miss. i love the smell of fresh sheets, I never use fabric softener and we have to use perfume free products but there is always a fresh scent to clothes from the line. Way to go LINDA. Doing it now makes it easier for the holidays. HUGS Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

a nice cabernet

Thursday, November 03, 2011

Pickie decided to have a glass of a nice Cabernet Sauvignon` last night., I rarely drink spirits, but red wine is good for the heart, stimulates the RBC's, so I settled down in my chair and sipped. It has a nice, smoky, deep woody flavor, with tones of blackberry. I always drink Redwood Creek wine.(California domestic)
I was celebrating getting the windows cleaned. The actual cleaning of the windows is very easy; it is the wrestling of furniture and hopping on the beds and bouncing around on them while cleaning, that is the big challenge! In my Lodge room I have an antique commode in front of the window, that I refinished , that has my printer, office supplies, phone, router on. There are about a hundred cords and such next to an end table next to it with my tower and speaker with added tweeters/woofers. You can only pull this commode away from the wall a certain way, and only so far away from the wall, without dropping everything(I DID drop the phone and base) and/or yanking all wires and cords from their appliances or the wall.

It was 65 degrees here yesterday, a heat wave, and I was perspiring within five minutes!! I also had to move huge planter and my chair, a couple boxes of DVD's to get TO the commode.

Two of the windows are behind the beds, so up I go, bouncing around, removing valances, cafe curtains from DD's windows just to get to the glass,, my windows have wood blinds AND valances(I did not bother to remove MY valances), .. This sounds kind of whiny, BUT besides being on the mattress close to the ceiling, I also had to work in-between our ceiling fans! Don't smack my head or pull window out and snap a fan paddle off!!
Linda's Law # 612: When cleaning ANYTHING, ANYWHERE, you will always run out of cleaning solution on the very last thing you are cleaning.

Yes, I ran out of my special glass cleaner while trying to spray the top outside of DD's window while wrestling both windows on my knee, hunched over beneath the ceiling fan, on the mattress, near the ceiling! Off I go after carefully setting both windows, cleaning cloths down, kneeling down on mattress without putting any weight on surgical hand, off to get crappy old leftover windex somebody gave me, tossing my old can of cleaner away and then climbing back up and dodging all, to get that last window clean, .

I cleaned 22 windows inside and out and my hand hurt so badly that I could only sit and do some repair work to my steam cleaner, instead of actually cleaning the carpets. It has already started raining throughout the night, so we will have to let it dry for much longer when we get the floor cleaned.. humidity is 90% now.

Fortunately, DD got the lawn mowed and leaves mulched..it may be the last mowing/mulching this year for OUR house,, moms is a different story,, we will see..
I think I have underestimated how much I can do with one bum hand,, I need to work on that,,, I am not used to sitting and watching things NOT get done..

You deserve more than a glass of wine!
You should drink the whole bottle! emoticon

I can recommend Gnarly Head Zinfandel and Cabernet. Two favorites and affordable!
emoticon If you can find them, the Black Box wines are very good for the price.

When we clean our carpets we set our dehumidifier in the room for a few hours. Works wonders!

I think you are almost ready for winter and the holidays. Fall cleaning always seems to go faster than Spring. I think we must work faster in the cooler maybe it is because we are not wanting to get outside in the sun. I never want to be outside in the cold.
