Ohhhhh I should shop for thanksgiving, too. Or, I can jsut fly to spend it with you and escape this madness here. But then that would mean you would get to celebrate my birthday with me on thanksgiving. :-)
I knew you would be missed at work but do take your time going back there.

hunkering down for winter

Tuesday, November 08, 2011

We got our grill in the garage, covered our picnic table, scooped another two or three bushels of leaves off the pool cover, picked the last of the green tomatoes, yanked the plants, stored pots and other outdoor things. The worst time of year besides winter for me. IT is like waiting for death, to me.
Got another call from moms caregivers that she had some medical issues again yesterday.. a couple weeks ago it was another resident slapping her. I was actually sitting here paying her bills and balancing one of her checkbooks at the time. No rest for the wicked I guess... still have my sinus headache from those leaves...

Oh well! We can't stop the seasons from changing, so we have to make the best of it. Winter doesn't last forever, though and before you know it, it will be spring again! emoticon emoticon (and autumn down here! emoticon emoticon emoticon)

How aweful! I can't believe someone slapped your mother!! emoticon I hope whoever did it got a firm talking to!! I wish you two all the best and may you both get better soon! emoticon

Linda, sorry you are in a very busy Rut. Do you think it will help when you are back at work or would you rather be at home for the winter.

Sorry about Moms situation, it seemed to have quieted down but upcoming holidays can bring a lot of memories and losses in to their memories. It does for me. HUGS Pat in Maine,
I am in your corner dear friend . Pat emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

So sorry to hear about your mom. Linda. It is hard on both sides. They realize that they can't do what they've always been able to do, and that frustrates them while at the same time they don't want to be a burden. It frustrates us to see those who were our parents to become this way. Both of my parents became dependent on me in their last few years of life so I know what you are going through.

I know how much you despise winter. Yes, the cold and showvelling snow is a royal pain in the backside, but I think that nature has a naked beauty and sereneness during this time.

Do you have one of those solar lights? My DIL was stationed up in Alaska for4 years and she had one, and said it helped her out tremendously. I'm sure you could find one online.

Maybe you need to plan a winter vacation for some warmth!

Tough situation, for sure, with your own issues to deal with as well... But you are strong, and you have a whole lot of people in your corner, especially here on SP...

So sorry to hear about your Mother and her situation. I so identify with the feeling of never knowing what will be next. Both my parents are alive in their mid 80's. They live together about 2 miles away. I have to balance between leaving them with their independence and knowing that I need to get involved. I definately feel like roles are reversed and I don't like the feeling.

Having our parents become like children is not an easy thing.

Remember to give yourself some time towards your program for yourself. Yes, you can do it! Changing yourself IS like a death. A death of the part of you that cloaks you in death and despair.

I know the feeling I too have been "preparing" for winter. Sorry to hear about your mom.

Hey are those the Taquemenom Falls on your Icon? I have been there many times, they are beautiful! Just so strange seeing it as your Icon. Do you live near there?

have a great day!

LINDA I know what you mean about the mold. This year has been better than others. we have had so little rain. The trees are still Green, its amazing for this time of year. I just raked the pine needles for an hour. I am hoping it will be easier to rake in the spring If I do it a lot now. Take care. I use the saline as soon as I come in. I do change my clothes asap too.
I am doing better I gave myself allergy shots for years and i think it has helped with my asthma and mold issues.. HUGS LINDA, Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon

King Tut Exhibition

Sunday, November 06, 2011

My friend Karen invited me to go to the King Tut Exhibition this afternoon. She took her brother to the Delta College planetarium for the partner display of astronomy Thursday, but did not think I would like it. (I love the planetarium!!)
The displays are replicas, since the Egyptian government will no longer release the original artifacts, but they are duplicated right down to the most minute detail. NO pictures allowed.. darn it..
So, I am taking a whirlwind trip to Egypt this afternoon, less than 20 miles from my home!! It is now a pink sunrise, so it should be a beautiful day to be out and about!!

bleach, elbow grease and nature's breath!

Saturday, November 05, 2011

Our carpet smells so nice now, looks so fresh and clean. I use bleach and the official jug-o-cleaner for the steamer. The bleach smell is not too strong, but it sure does get the spots out of the fibers that are too tough for regular solution. It took me 2 1/2 hours to do just the living room and hall. Moving furniture takes time too. I even tried the steamer on my kitchen floor. IT really works great, but leaves the floor wet, so since we store the appliance in the basement, I will not be hauling it upstairs every time I wish to clean the kitchen floor.
Today's project is moving our BBQ grill off the deck, all the way around our yard, through the drive-through gate, into the garage for the winter. We also will be covering our picnic table with our old pool cover.

I also laundered our bedsheets last evening and put them out to dry on the line this morning; it was 52 degrees and a breeze, so nature's breath dried my sheets while I cleaned carpets!

Yesterday morning the U.S. Postal Service kindly moved my mailbox to a new post next to the neighbor's post. They did, however, leave the post I had , STILL STICKING IN THE GROUND!! When I put it in a few years ago, I did sink a new hole, poured a foot of concrete in, so they would have needed a backhoe, or some hydraulics to get it out of the ground.
I guess you could call the new setting "Sparkish" since I now have to walk further and out into the street to get to my mailbox, instead of in my yard. Hopefully, I will not lose any more slippers frozen in THEIR driveway this winter!! We will see....

I'm guessing that your new mailbox that is in front of your neighbors home has a box with a Key? It's more for US Postal Services benerfit rather than the customer.
Get yourself some wading boots for the snowy weather to get the mail. that'll do it. nice to ahve a clean floor isn't it?
Hopefully you will ahve a relaxing Sunday.

LINDA.Good for you. The rugs in here are about to be tackled i have to wait till all the yard work is done. DH has problems with fallen arches and HAS to wear orthotics. At $350.00 a pair they have to get moved around and with carpal tunnel and a replacement finger joint i told him to wipe his feet and keep his shoes on. He does do that but we all know changing shoes would be better. Janet is right though, you should change in to boots, I have zip ups by the back door and leave my cleats on all winetr long.
I wear them in Wallmart and go Click, click. click. it does not bother me i just keep going. HUGS Pat in Maine. I was happy to read your blog today. It sounded like perfect satisfaction at a job done well! Pat emoticon emoticon emoticon

I think we are supposed to use outdoor shoes when retrieving the mail! My slip-ons got left behind on the sidewalk when I walked Oscar on winter days. I guess just because they have hard bottoms doesn't mean they have outdoor uses.
