Shipshewana on the road just means that the vendors are at different places selling their wares on the road,, in our area it was in Birch Run, Michigan at the Expo Center across from the shopping outlets at Birch Run. It is about a half hour drive from my home, so Karen and her sister met me at Meijers parking lot and she drove her Cadillac SUV. It was very comfortable and we had fun talking all the way there. IT is my second time there, they are veterans, so I bought Karen's admission ticket and Chris bought her lunch.
I am very proud to say I bought..NOTHING.
After almost three years in Sparkdom, I have learned that there are things that I merely WANT, not NEED,.
With that being said, we had lunch at Lucky's Steakhouse, one of my favorites. The other three women got the same thing for lunch: quesadillas`. SInce all restaurants make them the same(flat out on a plate, not grilled) I NEVER order them.. After being taught the correct methods of Mexican cooking from native Mexican in-laws, I rarely get that type of food in public. OUr homemade from scratch is so different, ,, no self-respecting Mexican would ever eat a flatout tort loaded with cheese and a scrap of meat,,,
they are supposed to be rolled like an egg roll and after being filled with meats, cheese, etc, they are grilled on a grill or griddle. Period.
I ordered top sirloin, steamed veggies and house salad with light raspberry vinaigrette, had water to drink. I brought half my steak home. They all bought fudge at the Expo Center and ate most of it(half pound), I sampled a tiny little pea-sized flavor to buy for DD, but it was not good quality, so did not purchase.
I really WANTED the huge double-fist size baked potato with sour cream and real butter that is a side option, but chose steamed veggies instead. I really WANTED a signature drink from the bar, but took water instead. I really WANTED their fabulous french onion soup piled high with provolone and thick crusts of french bread, but got no soup.
The meals are served with fresh from the oven seasoned loaves of bread. I had one bite, no butter..
The entire day, I walked continuously to get more steps in, and made the route of both buildings of the expo twice, pushing through the crowds and getting cardio in.
I did make two purchases at the outlets,, THINGS I NEED: an apple corer and a knife sharpener!!
The worst part of the day for me was the horrible shooting pain in my arthritic arm that got worse on the ride home. I am pretty sure it was from patting myself on the back for making smart choices all day...
