picking up after storm

Friday, October 21, 2011

We were very blessed that none of the 30+ trees fell on our home or pool. Neighbors had their forty foot-high spruce tree rip put at the root and fall between their home and another, across their front yard and onto the driveway and partially in the road! This tree was planted in the late 1940's when those homes were built.. very large, very heavy and very dead now,,
We had some limbs fall behind the pool, on the pool cover and stabbed into the ground like big black swords!!!
We are now pumping the 10-15,000 gallons of water off the pool cover, then will tackle the many, many, many bushels of leaves and smaller branches to clear them off the cover to make way for snow and ice. It is an all-day job, but half the water is now pumped off,,
Never a dull moment here, but the excitement is never exactly glamorous...

Glad you are ok and you don't have house damage. Trees can be cleaned up.
Our town is still cleaning up from the Tornado in Aug.

Glad you didn't have any bad damage and only need lots of elbow grease to get cleaned up!

The winds are even stronger today than yesterday,, (50+mph) we have a flood and wind advisory until tomorrow. It is raining so hard that I cannot see anything out my windows. Even the streetlight... too dark yet to see if the pool cover stayed on after we re-attached it last evening.
DD said she thought somebody drove into the house last night before bedtime, it was the bushes slamming against OUR BRICK HOUSE!!!

Up to four inches of rain in less than 24 hours, we live in Saginaw Bay of Lake Huron, so this is a very big deal! No outdoors today... so glad we got the parents house fixed when we did.. not sure which county their trash can will end up in though.. since DD had her wisdom teeth extracted, we have not been back there to retrieve it from near the road.. Cie` la vis`!!!

LINDA WE HAVE NOTHING AS BAD AS THAT WE JUST HAVE RAIN HERE. WE DID GET THE POOL COVER EMPTY OF LEAVES AND WATER AND NOW THE DECIDUOUS LEAVES ARE FALLING. I HOPE THERE IS NO WIND AND THOSE LEAVES DO NOT BLOW ALL OVER US. I KNOW IT WILL HAPPEN. I CAN HOPE CANT I?.
I HOPE YOU ARE PREPARED, I AM SURE YOU ARE AS WE ALREADY ARE FOR THE WHITE STUFF. WE HAVE HAD MILDER TEMPS OF LATE AND MANY OF THE TREES ARE STILL GREEN. I PANTED GRASS I HAVE NEVER WATERED IT AND THE PINE NEEDLES AND RAIN PROTECTED IT FROM THE BIRDS. I WISH I HAD DON THE OTHER 2 AREAS THAT NEED TO BE DONE BUT THE ONE I DID WAS THE BIGGEST SO WE ARE HAPPY IT HAS TAKEN SO WELL. HUGS- BE SAFE PAT- IN MAINE. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

51 mph winds!

Wednesday, October 19, 2011

We are in a wind advisory until tomorrow. Our pool cover blew half off the pool, broke all of the clips so we had to go out in the 51 mph winds and replace them, retie the cover on and get the old clips off and re-screw the new ones on. Nobody is outdoors, you cannot drive in a straight line.
Kristy is trying to eat soup, first food she has eaten,, got sick earlier, but we think it is from her antibiotics or pain pill and no food. I had so many things I wanted to accomplish today, but it is scary to be out. I did have the luxury of a haircut, highlights and style only to walk outdoors and chase my hair back to my car!!

My huge maple tree is bent about 30 degrees southwest... scary..

LINDA you wished the leaves would leave. I guess your wish was granted.

I hope Kristy will feel better soon. For some people antibiotics can really upset the gut. If I am on antibiotics I always eat yogurt with it. When my Dr even suggests them, I ask him how bad do I have to be before I need them. I do not like to take them but sometimes they will insist like before they do surgery and such.
I am hoping your DD is feeling better by now.
I cant stand being sick . My Mother was the same way. Taking naps gives me headaches that make me nauseous but I do not have migraines. Weird body. I like to take long walks when I am sick. Gran used to tell me to go outdoors and walk and do not play with the kids. That was how it was handled.
Be safe and be well HUGS Pat in Maine. xoxoxox emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
