Pentecost Sunday!

Sunday, June 12, 2011

All the plans for yesterday got scratched except the grad party and church. Got home from church to find that mom had been taken to E.R.. after a phone call, lots of getting no info from E.R nurse(she called me when I was not home, so I return her call, asking about mom,, she tells me that HIPPA laws dictate that I cannot get any info over the phone!!!!!!!!
I then told her that SHE CALLED ME, I have DPOA and DPOH on mom,, total power over everything of hers and they have that she is sitting there with those documents in front of her!! She told me she already knew that, but privacy laws say that she cannot tell me anything over the phone!!!!)

She then says I can drive down there if I want to hear anything,,,
I grab DD and we get over there, I walk in just as they are wheeling mom to get an x-ray, I stand at the end of the gurney and say, NO, not until I talk in length with this NURSE!! Off goes this nurse to get Miss Congeniality, she waltzes in, looks me over and tells me mom is going here and there,, I tell her, NO, mom is not doing anything until I hear every detail of what they did, what is ordered, who did what, etc,

Miss C, has no choice but to tell me in front of two other people, everything I want to know,, also, nobody knew who mom's doctor was!!!!!!!! there are two docs with same last name in town,, even moms assisted living facility did not know!!!!!!!!

SO now I am dealing with a doc nobody knows about that has been dispensing orders, meds, procedures, etc for mom since February, Miss C(Nurse Ratchet), four different stories of why mom is there, also they called my sister downstate who has no vehicle, no power, and she calls our home, the facility calls there, hospital, etc,,

Mom was there from noon until we left at 10 and got nothing to eat or drink, (she is a diabetic) when she vomited the first time, I had to get a wastebasket since nobody was near her room,,she did not even have a call button,,she has dementia and yada yada yada....
ON the flip side, we drew the long straw and got a VERY good and nice doc,, been there forever,, who ordered her food, got her a room right away,,WHEN HE FOUND OUT WE WERE THERE!!!!!!!!!!
He showed me her cahrt, all teh procedures, said he did not know why they even DID a chest xray, since nobody ordered one.. also when we first got there, EKG lady is there to REDO it because she said they lost thr first one, but MIss C, said , NO, they already have it..after xray, EKG lady comes back and does it again,,
Turns out, Miss C did not even bother to tell him that we were even in teh building, so we sat for three and a half hours waiting for him,, he did not know we were there,,

I told him how she was, that I did not know her name was on the sign out front, I thought it was a community hospital, not "Tricia's" place!!!

I also told him about the chest xray(not ordered) and he said if anything, they should have done a portable one,, and I told him I would be getting an itemized bill to check every single item to make sure she did not get charged for the xray and at least one of the EKG's!! He agreed. He apologized, and we were out of there in a half hour after getting mom fed and cleaned up, we covered her with more blankets, pulled her into a comfortable position, got her an emebag, tissues, call button,, DD and i did that, no staff even offered!!

When we left I realized he must have reamed her a new one, because I approached her at the desk and asked her what room mom was going into and she told me that mom had a new nurse now, so I should talk to him,, she was all smiling and polite, ..

they finally admitted her on the floor I used to work on,, for telemetry,,

so we did not get any yard work done, and it will be all day today to do both places,, then laundry, meals, back to the hospital, possibly transporting her back to assisted living, unless the hospital will do it.. she is complete dead weight.. unable to lift her..
Gads, I could not sleep last night and now I am up at 6, got about five hours sleep on and off, I am beat and the day has just begun! What a great weekend off!!

Sometimes it's just safer to stay home from a hospital. I was incharge of my mother and was her POA of Everything. I put on the file that ...
1. NO ONE is Allowed to touch her until I was notified unless life threatening
2. She is Diabetic and needs insulin.
3. Her Dr's name and phone number
4. My name and phone numbers Home and Cel...
5. Hubby's name and phone numbers. incase I could not be reached.
6. The names of the Dr's that are NOT allowed to see her... (to many mistakes and orders for test not needed)

The Nursing home always sent a folder with her but they never read it or ordered her records. Many times they didn't even know she was diabetic...Makes you wonder ! ! !
One time they ordered a spinal tap because she was complaining of neck pain...My neck would hurt too if I was laying on my back for 6 hrs with no water, food, any one to check on me etc. ad nausium ! ! ! She couldn't move so she was at their mercy... I told them absolutely NO Way ! ! ! and threatened to Sue them if they even tried....
Hence my New Name. Bitch Daughter.
I didn't care and Mom was much safer and better taken care of.
So everytime she went to the ER, I was in charge and NOT them once they saw the file's cover with my RULES...
Thank God your Mom has you on her side. Bless you....

So sorry all this ahppened. You and the Doc have some complainign to do with public relations or administration of the hospital.

Dennis my bro got sidschaarged from the rehab hospital he's been in for 24 months. Went home to Lake Havasu and showed up wednesday at The new Kidney dialysis treatment Center he was told to report to and they did not ahve his records. the staff sent them to a different hospital. so he ahd to go to ER be admitted as a aptient and get started all over and he was getting weaker. idiots!

I hope everything goes well with your mom! I'll keep her (and you and your family) in my prayers!

Ugh. I hate hospitals. More often than not, they cause more problems than they help, I swear. I remember when my dad went a few years ago because he was having severe problems with his gallstones. (They hadn't removed them when they discovered them because they were so small back then. Fast forward 2 years to this new occurrence.) He has congestive heart failure, and they put him on a high drip of IV fluids! They were waiting to do the gallstone removal surgery until his condition stabilized and it was getting worse. Yet the nurses couldn't figure out why! As soon as his heart doctor showed up, he flipped sh*t. "Didn't anyone read his chart?!" Because with CHF, you do NOT want extra fluids in the body, as it typically accumulates too much in the tissues/organs with the disease. Basically, they were practically killing my dad. emoticon

I know this weekend has been stressful for you. I hope it gets better! Like I said, I'll keep you in my prayers!

Tomorrow is getting moms garage door installed..DD will go there early in the morning to remove Dad's hubcap collection from above the old door and stay there during installation..
hopefully that will run smoothly,, it will be nice to be able to open the front garage door when we come to clean, mow, etc.
Temperature dropped about 30 degrees in a few hours, so it is dark, sprinkly and windy here, in low 60's to 70...

Wednesday

I guess some sparkers thought I was very organized when I mentioned wrapping Christmas gifts, but in reality, I am taking them with me when I go to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in August. they are for Connie and her three kids. The twins, Connor and Jack, will be three the week before I arrive and Lauren is four. I carry them up there so I do not have to ship them in December. Last Christmas it cost me over $50 to send them!! I did not go up there, so had to ship..

It i sin the mid 90's here right now, so the a/c is on,,what a great investment that turned out to be!! To those out west, it sounds cool, but when the humidity is 60-80%, it is not cool, or fab, or rad, or whatever, it is just miserable.. so we just jump in the pool, run back in the house in the a/c...

my basement is even cooler than upstairs!! Ahhh...

You are right about the basement. Our son is going to sleep in his basement this summer. He has a bedroom that he is getting ready for now.
