Sharon, you would have to be here to get the whiff of the odor.. Two boys were walking down the railroad tracks yesterday and were gagging, swearing and running with their hands over their faces while we were dumping those leaves! Today, one of those same boys returned and shook his head and put his hands over his face again,,

today I wowed the lawn, we got the pump, skimmer, and hoses hooked up, DD cleaned teh pool cover off and hung it to dry on teh clothesline..

Still lots of work to do, get some plants for the yard, mow moms grass, etc,, I have almost fifteen hours put in today and it is not dinner time yet.. I am going to rest..

Debbieanne it is an above ground pool four feet deep n teh sides, with a 7 1/2' deep end in teh middle. 24' round..

finally opening our pool!

Thursday, June 02, 2011

With floods, tornadoes, work and business, then DD was ill for a few days, so we got the pool cover off after about three hours of pumping skanky, slimy, composty water off, then bailing huge buckets of those same leaves and corpse-smelling water , off the cover,,
DD let the garden hose in it to get the water line higher up, but we are too whipped out to hook everything up today, ,tomorrow after I get home from work we can hook everything up and test water, stow everything for summer,,

even after scrubbing and showering, I can still smell that poo-compost water smell on my hands,, GROSS...
going to go douse myself in my "Design" by Paul Sebastian,, that is such a lovely fragrance and will cover it up.. emoticon emoticon

We will have to hire the pool guy. DH hip and foot are sore and I cannot handle it myself. They brought the pump inside this year its the first time they did that they usually cover it . It is heavy to lug up from the basement.

We have such a high water table the liner is badly creased. They suggested emptying and refilling but it is an in-ground 18 by 36 and 9 feet deep end, so that is a lot of water.

I would love to stock it with trout. !!!!!

Glad you are getting it all done. We are still way too cold for playing with water plus high winds that are from Canada so the winds too are cold. HUGS LINDA Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Definitely time to take the snow picture off your page, Linda! emoticon
Baking soda or lemon juice might have worked for the odor, too.
Hope you are having a good week!

LUCKY you we never open the pool till our neighbours Maple trees have lost their spinners.
We will be lucky if it's open by the fourth of July.

Despite it being in full sun it is NEVER warm enough for me.

I just like it looking clean. HUGS LINDA Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

We had a tornado touch down VERY close to October, a Saginaw, Michigan team member last night. I have not been able to catch the news to see what destruction it did, but everybody was hugging their basement walls last night!!

I hope everybody is safe today,, praying that October has a smooth surgery and recovery tomorrow..

We had a tornado run over us in Niles, MI, and it left a total mess. There were three little tornados that night, and we had some serious damage.

I hope your team member is doing well by now. We are under Tornado watch here in maine. Never remember that in the 40 plus years we have been here but they were reported in Northern Maine today.
Drove through a really bad wind and rain storm could barely see and the marble size hail I was truly scared of, I am so glad that has gone by but we are waiting for more.

Hugs Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Paralyzed Veterans

Tuesday, May 31, 2011

Something I think about a lot..

I have been financially, morally, prayerfully supporting the Paralyzed Veterans since I can remember. They gave of themselves, gave of their body and now must face their earthly life with what is left after they gave some more. If all I can do is give a pitifully small amount of cash to help with physical and mental services and care they need, then I will continue to do it until I am unable.
Until we are closely touched by war, (I have no close people in my life that are active military) we sometimes do not keep them in the forefront of our mind. I cannot keep the pictures of, ironically, Civil War pictures out of my mind, the piles of dead, the guys sitting in makeshift hospitals, with missing limbs and looks of death-wish on their faces.
For some odd reason, this is what spurred me to select a veteran's cause to support. Basically, veterans from WWII to present are benefitting from me viewing those Matthew Brady books! (I own many)
I find that very strange but serendipitous! emoticon emoticon

I give to support veterans and to paralyzed vets. At our local dollar tree we can add extra items to our check out to be sent to the troops and I always add a few extra. Our service people and there families put so much on the line for us to re main free emoticon

For 28 years of my working life I was an RN in a VA hospital. When people spoke of the "free" care the vets were receiving I always reminded the speaker that this was very expensive care and the bill was paid in advance by these wonderful veterans.
