Pooky survived surgery!

Friday, February 26, 2010

We picked her up at five p.m. ysterday.. She made it through the anesthtic fairly well. What I did NOT anticipate was how many of her teeth the vet would pull!
She now has ELEVEN LESS teeth!!!!!!!!
The doctor told us that when he just touched her teeth with a probe, copious amounts of green pus just shot all over the place. The poor baby had all that poison in her for at least a year. We were very hesitant to even do the surgery due to her advanced age, so hoped that the antibiotics would do their job over the course of time. All of her upper teeth on both sides ar enow gone,, most of them had either all dead roots or just one live on left. He also said this is very common in cats and dogs, but they usually do not live long enough for it to continue to get worse.

HE also said that she is one of the worst cases he has ever seen, not THE worst, but right up there in the top five.

She has no stitches so the pus can drain out, which means she is swallowing that too. but with her pain pills and mega-antibiotics, she will heal nicely. She took some chopped poached egg in boiled rice for breakfast, I gave her a packet of moist doggie food in boiled rice for lunch. We will just open her mouth long enough to shoot her pills to the back of her throat until she heals.
I am just grateful that she is here with us and less wobbly on her feet today. GOD IS GOOD!

Pooky Bear

Saturday, February 20, 2010

My doggie's name is Pooky Bear(we did not name her),, she is a beautiful mutt; part German Shepherd, part hound.. you can see her pic on my daughter's sparkpage(tweetykc)
She weighed 55 pounds when she was eating..
She was four years old when we rescued her eleven years ago from a home where they only fed her a cup of food a day, kept her in a basement of an old house all day until they came home from work, then let her out to toilet on a muddy, hard-packed dirt postage stamp yard.

We do know that somebody tortured her with newspapers and the vacuum.. also big spoons or sticks.. it took a long time before we could cook or read the paper with her in the house!!
When we rescued her, she only weighed 40 pounds, was covered in fleas, ticks, mud, her fur was matted, she was shedding huge clumps of it. She has asthma attacks or something like it.. when excited..

Within one month of rescuing her, we got her weight up to 55 pounds, bathed her, got vet meds and checkups. She had never stepped on grass, so when we took her home and she stepped off the deck onto the lawn, she jumped right back up on the deck!!
I cried..

Now, she has three cushy beds, more treats and snacks than us, drinks only Brita filtered water, takes my glucosamine, also was taking pet vitamins, now takes gingko biloba for doggie dementia, her ephedrine(it is a controlled substance, so must be handpacked into capsules by a pharmacist near here, shipped to my vet, signed for, then I pick it up, every month) for her inability to stop urinating, (she was born with that)benedryl, penicillin,..

we have a huge fenced in back yard, she gets walked regularly, goes to the groomer and gets her mani-pedi's,massages, baths, brushings, ear check.
She has lost a lotr of weight in the past few months due to these rotted teeth( I had the vet clean her teeth a few years ago) and poison is in her system..
she is now 15 years old,, she could die while under general anesthesia, but her life is about shot right now,,

I am going to go cook some venison and boiled rice for her to keep her going until surgery.. thanks for you prayers....

I found a jewel!

Wednesday, February 03, 2010

As I was trolling through nutrition articles just now, I printed out a jewel!! It is titled,"Dealing with hunger and food cravings"

It actually has a table scoring one to ten of your hunger level and sensations! I cannot believe I have been here this long and somehow missed this!! Read it to see how your body responds to cravings, hunger levels and just routine eating!!
It was one of those POW moments!!
Let me know what you think of it!!

    Oh boy!

Cravings I do get about once a week. I can normally give in to them but I compromise these days. If it is a chocolate craving i ahve a dark chocolate but less than one oz.

Salk craving pretzels or cashews.

Hunger I almost NEVER have. I eat on a regular schedule 5 times a day without fail. emoticon

remembering angels..

Monday, February 01, 2010

Today is a day for thinking about my grandma. aunts and uncle, dad, dear friends that have died... that lived with passion, smiles, regularity in their routines, gave me laughs, tenets to live by, influenced my personality as I grew up around them,,

for my friend Mary, who died at the ripe old age of 21 of a pulmonary embolis,, I miss you,, for my friend Gary, who taught me to slow dance, dead at 32;
my friend Walt, dead at 28, showed me how to play shuffleboard.
for John who died when we were 16 in a JV football game,, miss your quiet demeanor..
For Randy, whom I fell in love with, but brain cancer stole you from me on my birthday when we were both 21...
For Mike, who gave me laughter, adventure and growth,, dead at 50, but not forgotten...

for Unky Red and Aunt Franny, my "parents" who gave me unconditional love until the day they died, a week apart..

for my daddy, who died ten years ago,, of ALzheimers...
taught me how to live despite adversities, poverty, hatred, and illnesses. How to invest, save and set myself up for a goal.. independence,,
I savor the moments we had before I lost all these people in my life here,,
this is a happy blog, a thankful one,, for the angels HE sent to me for a reason, a season, but allowed me to have them in my life before they lost theirs,,
what a gift! PTL!!!!

Yoopers are people that are native to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan,, U.P..Yoopee, that is what we call the U.P. here,, so people that live up there are Yoopers,, People like me, are Trolls, we live below the Bridge,, The Great Mackinac Bridge,, one of the five longest span bridges in the Western Hemisphere..
I never use google, I use mypoints search engine,, just type in Cudighi.com in your search engine and there will be a recipe,, ask your grandma or grandpa,, they will know..
The gross thing Finns love is lutefisk,, absolutely gross,, wait till you read THAT recipe,,
