4 NO's Saturday B4 vacation

Saturday, August 10, 2013

Rose and shone early,, lots to do today: We will be walking at the marsh when they open the park gates at 8, then to the ice arena for the library book sale, then on to the store to pick up last minute stuff to pack.
back home to clean windows and start my clothing packing. We already packed the non-perishables last night and checked them off our main list. yes, I remembered the can opener, even though the cabins provide them I have a kitchen-aid one ,,it is getting very hard to use that anymore though.. I can hardly turn the handle,, may have to break down and get an electric one to use when DD is not home. I never thought I would be this bad at this age.. was hoping to be further down the old lady chart...

Definitely get an electric can opener. When you use a pickax the food tends to fly all over.

Have a wonderful walk.

4 NO's I lived through today!

Friday, August 09, 2013

Why is Friday the longest day of the work week and the weekends the shortest days? Four more working days and I can relax.

It is against the law to bring firewood from the Lower Peninsula to the Upper Peninsula , due to ash-borers here in Michigan, so we will collect some while we are huckleberry picking up there..
Got our red hot/marshie roaster forks packed for s'mores and campfire weenies too!

Got our floater rafts ready and DD found the marine rope to tie them together and add land lines to tie to buoys in the lakes so we do not float to Canada across the lake!!

Well, what's the big deal about floating across the lake? You will always float back (or walk)

Wish I could eat roasted marshmallows but i have Diabetes to worry about.. Wonders if there is sugar free marshmallows? I haven't seen them.

4 NO's Thursday

Thursday, August 08, 2013

An absolutely beautiful day here today. DD mowed both huge lawns, stripped and made our beds, did laundry. I was so tired after work, but lots to do.. Paid bills, have laundry going again, made some calls.
This weekend will be pre-packing and checking things off their lists. We have a space ready on the futon here in the lodge. DD already has most of her things packed.. of course, she is not excited..
I have more hours to work next week, since I took Friday off to tack onto my vacation. We have the lists of restaurants we are going to try, info on all beaches, most of food packed.. check.
that is the easy part... cramming it all into my car with a battering ram and gigungo bungee cords is the hard part. Even with our streamlining this year, two people have lots of stuff for a whole week in the forest.
Once we get to Paradise, we need to have everything,, they roll the streets up at 6PM sharp.. no gas, no food, no nuttin'!!
The first year I went, I had all of my cabin windows open and the only sound was the waves lapping on shore of Lake Superior. Ahhhh.. I can hardly wait..

ONe of the jokes I shared on a couple of my teams is related to our huckleberry picking in the deep forest up there.

Camper: "I heard that grizzly bears won't bother you if you carry a flashlight."

Ranger: "That depends on how fast you carry it."

I'm very happy for you! I loved your comment about the bungee cords, LOL You have a wonderful and safe trip!

Thanks for your support on the boat issue with my husband. He read a book recently that gave him the boat buying itch.

I am amazed how quick he has lost the memory of a trip last month. We just got back July 20th from a trip where we chartered a 51 foot Sailing yacht in Grenda. We traveled up to the Grenadine Islands and back with nothing short of a serious disaster. Before we left the water line broke and flooded the boat. This took 1/2 a day to fix so that kept us from going to St Vincent on time. Just a few of the issues: The empeller caused a fire and made the engine overheat so it shut down, the sail topper had a clip that came undone and fell 3 times. The last time the boom fell with the Main sail attached on the biminy which was while smoke was flowing from the cabin,in the middle of a major storm. The refrigerator did not work so we lost a lot of food and the food we ate may have been bad. The anchor line was tangled and did not release more than 60 foot of chain the dingy leaked, so it was always flooded. The phone provided to alert us to bad weather had a missing battery and there was several storms. One major storm occured at the same time as the fire and the falling Main sail. We had a leaking dingy that was always flooded. The trip came to a climax close to end but it took the entire last day to get us back to the Marina. The Yacht charter CEO played it all down as little mishaps....

And now my husband wants to buy a boat????? emoticon emoticon

Humidity is one of the major reasons I don't like summer! It really makes things unbearable. I remember the first summer we were up in RI and it was so humid, our shoes in the closet got moldy! Hope it breaks soon for you!
