4NO's hike day

Sunday, July 21, 2013

Dd and I went to the marsh and walked, meet some nice people, watched cranes fishing in Lake Huron,, I fear that one of the mute swans died since we only saw one,, this is the second year in a row that their eggs were not viable.. The weather is the best day we have had this year.. windows open, nice breeze, no clouds,, after that scary storm we had the other day, we are still cleaning up limbs and debris,, still people without power,,
back to work tomorrow,,

One of the best summers I can remember thus far although it is a tad warm! Hiking the Michigan wilderness is a great way to get outside and enjoy both fitness and nature.... emoticon

4 NO's Saturday

Saturday, July 20, 2013

Dd and I were on the road for six hours today, to parents house to check mail, tehn walgreens, then Beauty Academy for haircuts, then lunch, then Big Lots for gatorade powder for her, then Krogers. Back home, so happy that the temps dropped to the high 80's.. Yesterday we had a very severe thunderstorm(we all think a tornado touched down near here) with trees on houses, cars, in the streets, power is still out to over 5,500 homes in just our county(400 square miles).
We lost power for a nanosecond, just long enough to have to reset a couple clocks. We were blessed to have no damages or have hail hit here.. it was quarter sized,, neighbors huge canopy was uprooted and flew over their 20X40 pool, eight foot fence, DD car and landed five feet from our porch. Visibility was three feet in the rain. I thought I heard the train coming down the tracks, it was not a train...

26 days until vacation!! I hope I float across Lake Superior into Canada on my pool floatie thingie. I will take a picture o fit,, nobody else has seen ones like ours..!! I am too lazy and cheap to get a passport to visit Hadydabur in Goderich,Ontario, fellow Sparker,, so I will try to paddle my way across the pond..

Glad the storm jumped over your place. Someone must have been holding a big, strong umbrella over you.

The vacation plans sound just right. You deserve it after all the work you do helping so many others.

4 NO's..

Friday, July 19, 2013

I guess I actually had slight heat stroke Wednesday,, high temp too with the other symptoms..
I informed boss today when I arrived at work, that I would be getting drinks every half hour or more,, no argument..
Turns out, we had lots of people in there today, so I finished work and came home.. they wanted me to stay another 3 1/2 hours, but another 95 degree day today. I drove home and actually had the A/C on, came into the A/C house and DD made a flax/ice/banana/strawberry/pomegranate smoothie ready for me.

I hope others are staying hydrated and not working so hard until it is too late..
lesson learned..

It is so easy to do in this heat...I have had to MAKE myself come in some days out of the heat...I understand it can come on quickly.

Have a great weekend!

Glad you're taking good care of yourself. It sounds almost as if there's no A/C where you work. If not, that's gotta be tough in this hot spell.

Looks like it'll be cooling off soon. Have a great weekend.

When people tell me 'stay cool', I respond, 'I can't do the impossible but I will stay hydrated'.

4 NO's ongoing..

Thursday, July 18, 2013

I am feeling better today.. made sure I had some sodium included with all of the green iced tea and juice I drank yesterday. the disorientation, faintness and nausea/vomiting abated later in the afternoon. DD watered the berries, I was not going to go out again except when we drove to my workplace to get my car home.

This morning I was up early, wrote out checks for more bills, go them in the mailbox, picked some raspberries, watered again, pulled a huge pile of weeds and hauled them to the fence, filled the birdbath. This was at 7 am.. I was covered in sweat, came indoors to cool down and put the berries in the freezer.
I also just put a whole chicken in the large crockpot on the deck. Dinner for later with some steamed rice and salad.
I cannot do any more outdoors work today. Forecast is 91 degrees. Yesterday was forecast 92, it hit 95. Humidity is 100% and holding there 24 hours. low of 82 at night..

Umph. Good plan. No more heat exhaustion. I think we get more susceptible as we get older. Anyway, I know that ooollldd riding mower I was using today overheated 3x! :)

4 NO's

Wednesday, July 17, 2013

Had to have DD pick me up from work after only two hours: I know now it was heat stroke. I was barfing, nauseated, sweating copiously and THIS close to fainting. I could barely stand up alone.. tried to fall on my bed and just cool down and let my stomach settle, but that made me feel worse,, got up, took some pepto tabs and sat in chair ,, That made my stomach feel better, but my whole body feels like a wrung out dishcloth.. I feel weak and totally exhausted.

This 100% humidity and high 90's temps is nothing to take lightly. Made some more green tea and sipping that for more hydration...

I hope you feel better soon.

Have you ever bought a Chilly pad? it's a cool towel that you keep on your neck it stays ice cold after you wet it. It was a life saver when i was paddling on the boats.Walmart and drg stores sell them.

Hope you feel better tomorrow. My grandchildren and daughter have both been ill because of the heat. All I do is moan all day. I am retired but it must be awful when you have to go to work. I am sure you don't need any advice from me- but keep drinking the water.
