Holy Mackerel!

Thursday, April 11, 2013

It is gale force winds here, and raining so hard people are pulling off the CITY STREETS they cannot see to drive..
I am thinking we have already gotten between three to five inches of rain since Tuesday. I can't be sure, but I think the guy down the street is building an ark.. If I see critters go marching two by two into that craft, I will have to get my snorkies around my arms and start smearing vaseline on my bod to keep less pruney for as long as possible.
It is just above freezing and my fibro has flared along with arthritis, so ironically, I had to stand UNDER HOT RUNNING WATER to help alleviate the pain ..

Our street was blessed about ten years ago to get new storm drain lines installed. Another neighbor informed me that the township had a $60,000 surplus as of that day and would I petition the other 24 neighbors on the street to get this $$ to pay for the pipes and connections,, labor would be just $300 added to our taxes over the next three years. The old ladies refused to sign, but I got over 80% of the people to sign, even my next door neighbors who were actually in the process of moving IN to their house!! I went to the Board meetings and it got approved. My back yard used to be a nesting ground for Canadian honkers, ducks, etc until this new line was put in..

I may have to invest in some serious sponges to absorb what the ground cannot hold.. This land around Lake Huron is famous for having lots of clay, so it kind o f burps water back 'atcha..

LINDA, I hope the rain abates and there is a quick warm up to dry the ground. We too have a house built on clay. The water just stays on top of the ground.
The poor Robins fall over after they tug on those worms they are so hard to get out of there.
It is bad enough with rain but cold and wind is so much worse than snow.

Sorry your weather is so bad.
It has to get better soon and the sooner the better will be GOOD!!

(((((HUGS))) and much love Stay warm. Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Rainy Wednesday

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

Neighbors huge 40 gallon trash cans floating around in their driveway, until the high winds push them into their yard. DD hurriedly grabbed ours in- between gully-washer downpours.. Our back yards are somewhat under water..
what will come falling from the sky next? Frogs?? They would be right at home in all of this water...

Rainy Monday, er Tuesday..

Tuesday, April 09, 2013

I never get a weekday off, so I am still thinking today is Monday.. it IS raining though.. The sky and temp are like November, not April. We did not have a fierce winter, but one of the longest cold times I can remember since I was a kid... The cold, sleet and snow overcast sky, started last October and this is the second week of April for cripes sake!! almost seven month of this,, no wonder people in this part of the hemisphere suffer from depression S.A.D..
The only worse place is Alaska and Russia.

DD and I try to focus on reading, watching the wildlife, filling our suet cages and bird feeder, telling jokes and laughing, or discussing family members that have died and left us good memories. As cold as it is, we are making FROZEN lemonade out of lemons!! LOL!!!!!!!!

I am with you on the SAD thing. To compound the situation, Maine is in the wrong time zone so it really messes with me and my addled brain.
I had a long day gardening raking and uncovering shoots. I am so glad I did because here on Wednesday I have some miniature daffodils opening Woo Hoo.

It was raining all yesterday. DH and I missed our lecture because we thought it was Monday too. Without the newspaper which DH decided was garbage I have to check the calendar.

I love and envy how you can chat with your daughter, I would love to have just one kid within 100 miles. Oh well. Such is life. HUGS and much love Pat in Maine.

I hope DD skin issue is getting better. HUGS to both of you emoticon emoticon

MOnday off

Monday, April 08, 2013

I have the day off today , so awoke at my usual time and was rewarded a couple hours later , with a beautiful peachy, pink sunrise in the background of leafless trees, making a stark contrast this morning. I make a point every morning to check out the sunrise(none in winter) and point it out to others who seem oblivious to HIS gift of beauty just for us. NO other planet in our solar system has this with a nice background.
When we are dying, we will wish we had taken the time to notice little and big things right in our face that HE created just for OUR enjoyment. Flowers, swirling little tornadoes of fall leaves, wispy clouds, squirrels playing, feuding birds in the spring, smell of composting earth when the sun hits it, ,,

It is my job to notice, to appreciate and pass on to others, things that are theirs for the taking to enjoy,,free of charge, compliments of God. Anybody else feel that way?

I love this post! It is so easy to get wrapped up in our crazy lives, and not take the time to enjoy the little things. Our God gave us an amazing planet, and we should take time every day to admire His work, and praise Him. I am in awe everyday of the glories he has made!

Bought a LOT of produce at Aldi this morning.. I have a taste for broccoli salad, so got the cauliflower too. Lots of produce on special in April, so we love to make cold salads and crunchy munchie snacks.
I have another fire going in the fireplace today,, in the 20's again.. I also got some strawberries and cantaloupe. We LOVE fruit salad..

Still enjoying a day off and I do not work tomorrow either, but more sleet and rain predicted..

It sounds pretty cold there. We've been having rain off and on.
