53 degrees here today!! If I could shovel all the snow off the deck, I would sunbathe,, not fair to the wild critters or red tailed hawk that live here too.. even MOther Nature did not prepare them for THAT sight!!! Nothing more sad than a bunny, squirrel or hawk wearing sunglasses from going blind!!

We made it close to 70 here yesterday and a big change from the 30's just a week ago. I had to deal with a migraine yesterday as well due to all the changes in the weather and the asthma acting up some as well. I love the spring but it will take a toll on my asthma thats for sure.

We made it to 44 degrees and a second water main burst. so we had equipment in the circle and our drive way all day till after dark. They have to move the snowpiles on to our yards to dig the holes. 2 in less than 2 weeks. we are lucky our water comes in from the front of the house but we use the back so we had to keep asking the men to move the trucks. What a weird day. Hugs Pat in Maine. emoticon

It was only 39 and so foggy you couldn't see across the street here today. Yesterday we had 55 & sunny, it was great. However, tomorrow's high is 31 with 40 mph winds! It will sure be a change. After the warm and drizzle we've had, the ski hill will just be ice and I get to give lessons tomorrow. We have 160 kids coming for a ski day.....should be interesting.

We're at 55 now. No wonder I had a headache yesterday. Weather can't decide if it is summer or winter!

And enough snow melted that you can see the tips of green on the daffodils sprouting up. Spring is coming!

Lions Club

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

As far as mom's eyeglass cases AND old glasses, any Lions Club has bins all over town for donations,, They use the old glasses for visually impaired people, as frames are so expensive,, cases are the same,, look up your local Lions Club in the phone book or call your Chamber of Commerce for info,,
They will pay for glasses, eye exams, etc for those who qualify,, When we started opening just a few drawers, I counted at least 15 cases, not sure how many glasses,, some from my dad, who has been dead 11 years this March!! Don't want to give anything to those in need,, might want to pop them in his ashes someday if we ever dig him up ya know.. gads,,
You want a stuffed animal? She has bags of them,, cheap things from claw machines,, from her bingo babe friends... all two of them,, want plastic canvas junk? How about resin statues of who-knows-what, or drawers full of greeting cards that got sent to them ,, EVERY SINGLE ONE SINCE I WAS BORN!!!!!!!
Need an Elvis baseball cap? How about three vacuum sweepers that have never worked(she shopped at big lots)(lots of junk),, She has so many clothes that if dad had not died, he would have had to put his clothes out in the garage,, she has three closets full of them, BIG closets,, not mention drawers and plastic tubs of them,, she wore them all except the nice, quality things we bought for her,, does not own a dress,,

so just to find a bottle of nail polish was a scavenger hunt for two people,,
I smell a big garage sale this spring.. maybe we can find a new home for the two or three hundred glasses or five sets of dishes,,,, just to empty a couple cabinets..
maybe I should go national...

Hahaha I have been there, one day we'll be old and all our precious treasures will seem totally unnecessary and bizarre and after cleaning out my grandparents/parents houses it will be our right to have those things :) Good luck Pickie!!

One man's trash is another man's treasure! If you could use the money have the sale, but if there is stuff that just needs a home don't forget freecycle.org.

Spent another day doing for mom yesterday,, filled out more paperwork,, hauled more things to her room,, straightened her room, hung everything up, arranged for beauty shop for her,, she already performed: snatched a tv remote out of another resident's hand because she wanted to watch something other than what everybody else was watching,, this is her first week there..
we went to day to get a drawered storage unit for her bathroom, more clothes to mark and take to her,, maybe next week, when I feel like it,,
getting tax papers in order for preparer,, will have to make an appointment for moms too..
it took us over an hour to find a teeny little bottle of nail polish in mom's house,, it will take us months to clear out all the junk in her drawers,,
every closet and drawer is packed with old cards, threadbare linens, cheap knick knacks,, I think within two more years and she would have run out of those spaces and started piling that junk out of the spaces.. a "hidden hoarder" if you will,,

I think she has a minimum of twenty five watches,, none of them work except the cool Mickey Mouse one I bought for her in Disney world in 2007 that she never wore,,,
you want eyeglass cases, we GOT eyeglass cases,, every drawer had a few in it..

It's sounds like your mum is still keeping you busy! At least when it's done, it's done. Those draws won't magically fill up again! emoticon

I vote get on www.freecycle.com. Someone out there may need eye glass cases.

Sorry about the loss of income it really bites, our family in vegas was hit very hard and the stress ofosing their first home haas been gruelling for them. It is hard to see what is happening in our country and rationalising it with sending so much aid abroad. Sometimes I long for some poor smart person could be elected and see it the way the vast majority of us are living. Hand to mouth.
Try to enjoy the time off.

HUGS if that helps Pat in Maine emoticonDear LINDA.
