Finally, this year is over...

Monday, December 31, 2012

Got a call from moms facility to give me a progress report. Somebody must have shaken the basket after I told them I knew it was food poisoning. They called to etll me she is feeling better. I figured that since they discharged her from teh hospital and was already eating a regular diet there..
Captain Obvious..

I know this sounds petty and snotty, but if you ever read a slim little paperback called "The Peter Principle" you would be sitting there nodding your head. I read it in the ninth grade and it stuck to me like tightwads to their wallets.

I cannot even imagine hiring people for that kind of responsibility and not even being embarrassed when they miss the mark so much. I am embarrassed FOR them! These people make a minimum of $25-50/ hour!!! Plus full benefits!!
I did more as a co-op student at age seventeen IN TRAINING than any of them!! So sad..

I would not even consider any nursing position in this city unless it was hospice or a doctor office. The policies and procedures at these big places are like a machine,,
vent over,, time to go bite my shoe, look in the mirror and smile at that weird chick I see there.. She understands..

It seems like it's getting worse.
Have a little taco sauce for that shoe. Maybe it'll taste better.

It's really sad how these big facilities are. I don't even trust the local hospital as they totally violate HIPPA

I absolutely love that. Next time I feel like my head is going to explode, I"m going to do just that!

Hope your year gets off to a great start!

Hope 2013 someone will knock some sense into the facility.

roberts 85 year old mothers facility has the management and Robert get together quarterly. they discuss issues of the facility or what his mom is up to. she hates their food I love their food she brags it's not mcdonalds I brag it's healthy and a repat at the enxt meeting. the staff is friendly but the nurse there is an idiot who thinks she needs to go to ER when she ahs a runny nose.

Go to store for milk, hospital calls and wants to know if I am transporting mom to her home. UH, NO, I already told charge nurse yesterday that I would not do it. COMMUNICATION!

They then ask me where I will be meeting them, at hospital or facility?? UH, I just got home, I will be here, in MY home. Do you need me to sign anything, find directions to her room? no.. okay, then wheel her out, then in, have a nice day. I am losing patience with "professionals". I used to work there ,, back in the old fashioned days without computers, high tech, we had our poop in a group.
Five seconds after I hang up, moms facility called me to tell me, get this:" The hospital just called us. your mom is in the hospital"...(been there two days) she is being discharged,, where will you be meeting her? I had already left them a message about it all...
Call-waiting is my new mantra...

Do all your caregivers at the hospital and the facility have some sort of cognitive disorder? Sorry to seem negative, but really, there must be a limit somewhere. Isn't there someone in either organization who can make a decision and take some responsibility? I sure hope things get better for you there. emoticon

Freaky Friday(and Saturday) with mother

Saturday, December 29, 2012

Right after I blogged last night and took another pain pill, had one foot in bed, assisted living called to say mother is vomiting SINCE NOON(this was 9pm!) would I take her to redi-med?

I groggily ask questions about if she had meds changed, new food, too much sugar, etc. No,no,no..

I get dressed, drive out there, see they have her in HER wheelchair, expecting ME to lift her and haul her w/c into car, out of car, into hospital, transfer her in and out..
Uh, NO.. I tell nurse get mom to care, let THEM do ti together, put her w/c back in her room.. I then ask for mom's notebook with her meds, vital stats,etc.. Had to ask for it to take.. then she tells me that other places are probably closed by now, I will have to take her to E.R. now..
they waited nine hours to call me until every other option was closed..
I then ask if mom ate anything different,, well, yes, it seems the night before, the night nurses gave her a piece of apple pie,, a worker ate a piece too, later, and got a stomach ache, but did not vomit.. mom did, big time..

simple case to me... I then ask where she has all of this stuff written down, her vitals, circumstances leading up to and after sickness.. DUH! A monkey would have charted all of this, but I had to ask her to rewrite it to take along for hospital staff to see...

I finally haul mom in, get her in a room, and they do IV, labs, she proceeds to toss the water and Vernors I gave her in the next two hours.. they cath her, take her to X-ray, she tosses more fluids there, I fall asleep holding the wall up..

Finally, after asking them since 10:30pm, at 3am, they tell me the doc scheduled a CT scan for a few hours from then, so I can go home, they will admit her,, I told them I was diabetic and had been awake since 4 am the morning before..

I finally get home, try to call assisted living place, get voice mail of course,, tell them not to call me as I am getting some sleep,, I fall asleep about 4:30am,, 5:45 am, hospital calls me to get all of the information I already gave in E.R. in case they admitted her, so they would not have to BOTHER me again... I tell her that I am leaving town today and will not be back until evening,, give her DD cell phone number ,,
20 minutes later after getting a PIN number for mom, I get back into bed,,

I sleep another three hours and wake, hustle to get ready, we leave for errands before heading north on the expressway for time with family there.
We returned at 6 pm, I called immediately to the hospital, nurse tells me mom has not been abusive like last night to staff, her CT was negative(NO kidding) everything was negative..

she was merely dehydrated,, MUST HAVE BEEN THAT APPLE PIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She is sitting up, eating regular food, happy as a clam to have people waiting on her hand and foot.. of course..
I tell nurse in no uncertain terms that I will not be hauling mother back to her home, that if they need a forklift, helicopter, whatever, i cannot wrestle her again,, the shiny ambulance would be perfect for that.. Those husky EMT's can handle her on that gurney..

she writes that in her chart and I just took another half tramadol(took two halves last night before phone call!) and enjoying my new Minnetonka moccasin slippers I bought while shopping with DD and Dgreat niece today at the Tanger outlets in West Branch!! DD had a coupon, I bought two pair ON SALE and I am looking forward to a relatively normal night of sleep.

God has sense of humor.. emoticon

Thank God It's The Weekend!
Got out of work very early, so had my game plan ready to go for he day. DD was waiting for me, I changed clothes, grabbed pre-packed bag of receipts for places to go today. Off we go to library to return her book, drive across the street to mail an envelope of vacation brochures to fellow Sparker readytolose to peruse with her friend next week.. they will be joining us next summer for our Yoopee trek.
Next stop was gas station to reap 40 cents off/gallon reward earned at Kmart yesterday along with in-store bargains. STILL NO SLIPPERS!!!!!!!
Nest stop Kmart to get receipt corrected for my credit card,,seems when I checked my daily receipts from cards/purchases, I found that clerk charged me twice for set of jammies.. even though they were half priced, I am not paying for any CEO's condo in the Cayman's...

Left there, went ot check our bargains at Walgreen's,, ended up getting needed things for me..
back home, I again checked receipts, did a couple store surveys online for free merchandise.. yea..
Time to rest here on my dupa` for awhile..

After Christmas shopping.. after work DD and I went to look at slippers for me.
Couple hours later and out we go with no slippers but some bargains. I have two Christmas gifts for next year, new unmentionables and DD did the same. Had a free lunch at a local place, came home,,I did way more than my 10,00 steps today,,

Since there are only 362 shopping days until Christmas eve next year, we decided to stimulate the economy with my plastic and hers:gift cards and credit cards!!
