fall weather falling

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

Today is a typical autumn day,, leaves and rain falling every day, but the temp is in the high fifties up to high sixties.. The humidity is a delightful 100%!
I could not wait to get home, I was sweltering at work, as was everybody else. You cannot leave a box anywhere outside your home or it will be collapsed in an hour or so. Even things in the house are clammy and sweaty!!
The alternative is snow, so I guess it is something to learn to live with.

My pain seems to be slightly less today, so that is a positive. I noticed that going up and down the basement stair to do laundry is not as painful. A good day!

So happy you have a little less pain.
It makes me wonder is it the warmth that has helped or the wet weather, I used to hear a lot about air pressure in UK but not so ften here. UK is an island and it is small so influenced by the weather. Cool wet summers and warm wet winters was the rule in my childhood but with the climate changes one never knows. HUGS pat in Maine.

Vindictive Sparkers

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

I just left another Sparkers site. They are never going to blog again because some anal sparker keeps reporting their blogs as inappropriate. this Sparker never even hints at tasteless things, always gives an encouraging letter to those who need it and is very hurt that another person would cowardly sabotage them.
the person will not come fore=ward(surprise) and confront this Sparker, but merely hurts their feelings by going up to the techies.

I know there are some mentally ill Sparkers and some with other agendas, but I hope the tech support recognizes this and warns the coward to be very sure before they accuse another of doing something wrong.
I feel sorry for anybody whose life is so bankrupt that they feel the need to hurt another to feel superior or secure.
Paybacks are he77... emoticon emoticon

I think she could make her blogs private and then only friends could see them. And if there is nothing inappropriate in them, then Spark will ignore complaint---they do go and read it when someone does make that complaint. I have reported when someone is trying to sell something or an issue when they belittled another team which is why we have that button.

Good grief, I've never heard of this before. Hopefully when the Big Sparks review the ugly reports the whole thing will backfire.

I wonder if some better comments added to the blog would help.

Colcannon and Galumki's.

Saturday, October 20, 2012

In yesterday's blog I mentioned that I might make galumki's with a huge head of cabbage I bought at the market. I was extremely surprised that some people id not know what they are! In my community, we have Polish, French, Dutch, and German settlements. They all make up an area of about fifteen square miles.
Polish people probably comprise about 2/3 of this area. I learned to cook a lot of their foods when I worked at the hospital. Galumki's are stuffed cabbage. Pierogies are stuffed dough.. Usually with leftover mashed potatoes, cheese, onions. I learned some of the foods from a Polish family that lived behind us.

I have heard of Colcannon, but have never tried it or made it. It sound delicious!
DD hates cabbage, so this nutritious cabbage soup will be just for me. She will sometimes eat coleslaw, but very seldom.

I make mine with diced pineapple and apples in it.

We actually went to the fruit market specifically for apples, as Michigan is a major source of the nation's supply. This market usually has about ten varieties for about $.69/lb. This year, earlier, we got about five kinds and they are all gone. Yesterday, they had three kinds and Honey crisps were $1.99/lb, the delicious, yellow delicious and mac's were $.99/lb. The latter three types LOOKED like they had already been victims of the hard frost, been pecked at by birds, and been rolled out the door to the truck! No thanks. I still have a few for my crockpot baked apples.

Going to visit a co-worker this morning to see her baby girl who is a week old today. Karissa Marie. Tossing out junk from the basement and cleaning is the rule of today. and soup making.

Oh well, I still don't know what those things are, how to spell, or to pronounce them. I bet every culture in the word has some kind of special cabbage recipe.

I admit that many Polish and German foods are a mystery to me.

Apples though? omnomnomnom. There is nothing like that first bite of the season out of ones favorite apple. In fact after I finish this comment, I'm going to go take mine.

Have a great weekend!

Linda now we are on the same page, I stuff cabbage wraps with rice and chicken. We are not tomato product lovers but we love red fried tomatoes so I just put them in the blender as sauce, it works or both of us. We NEVER even saw spaghetti sauce growing up or pasta. Rice was for rice pudding, and ground rice was for baking rice cakes not the flatbreads, they were like regular muffins here. My Gran used to buy glazed cherries, a real treat for us and she used sugar water icing and a half cherry on top. Baked on Saturday night and gone by Sunday night. emoticon
I still should do more yard work but we had rain, wind and floods with power outages, I expect the leaves are finally all down by now. emoticon

Good Morning and Happy Sweetest Day to You...
You are making some of my Foavorites today.
I think I'll be there for lunch....and maybe Dinner !!!!
Apples are a rare bird in these parts...Prices are over 50.00 a bushel +...
That early frost did most farmers in this year and the lucky few are inflating prices because they can !!!!
Pears were luckier so I Put Up pear sauce to can rather than apple sauce...
Add cinnamon and you never can tell.
Have fun today !
