Today marks the last day of my vacation.. Still unpacking tubs of supplies and finishing laundry,, DD mowed the lawn, I shopped for essentials..
Back to the grind for another year..
I am relived that our cabin is reserved for next year already, all I have to do is call them and confirm my credit card #'s next spring.. ditto for the new cabin I found in Indian River. I am still debating on staying at the new place THREE nights instead of two.. we really did not get much beach time this year by the time we drove from Paradise, crossed the bridge, unpacked in next cabin, had lunch and took some more pictures.
I did tell DD that next year I want a day trip from Paradise to Sault Ste. Marie, MI.. it is much shorter drive(an hour or so) than Ishpeming, we can still do the beach, take pics, search for old friend that lives there.. be fudgies (tourists) and relax...
time to tweak the packing list for next year.. not that we are anxious to return or anything..
Apparently a freighter near the Soo Locks tipped over with a load of coal the day before we arrived last week,, these twin freighters were among 9 waiting for the St. Lawrence Seaway to be cleared.. this seaway runs all the way around to the Panama Canal.. without this set of locks, ships would have to go all the way around the Bering Straits or back around the Pacific Ocean to South America.. we got pics of each ship,,
This was me with glasses. Dd is below,, at the Blueberry Festival in Paradise,MI
this is Lily, my friend Connie's Westie,, 12 years old,, in Munising,Mi last Monday.
OOps.. DD is posing at the festival too,,
The cabin is #8, our home away from home for 5 days.. next year too.. wish it was really mine!!

Going to try to put some black bear pics on here from Oswald's Bear Ranch in Michigan. A total rescue ranch for bears all over North America. Friend of my Dad's owns it. The first one is the first bear(there are currently 29 there ,including 3- 7 month old cubs)I saw,, darned near bumped into him!
This is a ranch that you walk around in, not a drive-though place. They have ponds, waterfalls, tree stump dens, caves, hundreds of trees and hills to climb. The owner is a Marine vet, retired boxing coach and trainer, fireman.. he was in Golden Gloves for about forty years and has the nose to prove it. Dean Oswald..
anyway, while we were there, one of the cubs figured out how to get the locks undone from their double fenced enclosure. He got out of the living area and was through one fence, ready to climb over the last one, when a c=visitor came up to us and the worker in the gift shop, ten feet away, and told us the cub was loose! They are about the size of a black lab right now,, but those teeth and claws are longer than I care to feel on my skin,, worker put baby back in the playpen,, we were planning to get our pics taken holding a cub like others have done,, but of course, the government stepped in and outlawed it. They charged $5 for the privilege and the $$ went towards their feed, vets, habitat, etc.
We tried, but we got the best pics we could,, we plan on going back next year,, the adults can never leave captivity due to their being orphaned and some being raised by hand, others were badly injured and cannot hunt for themselves.
That first bear pic was a very surreal experience: it was so close to the fence if there was only one fence and non electrical, I could have reached through the holes and petted him! I was gabbing away to DD behind me, strolling along, when I stopped dead and saw what you see..

DD and I both slept wonderfully last night in our own little beddies with our own pillows(I always take one of my own memory ones with me though).. woke up this morning, started some laundry,, sat in chair, slept on and off all day!! I mean, out-like-a-light all day,, it is 5:30 pm, and I feel like I was awake all night!! I drove 965 miles altogether, in 7 days. Less than I thought,BUT no help driving,, DD never did get behind the wheel,, I depended on her to get pics, which she is much better at capturing.
The car rested wonderfully too, but we are groggy from lack of sleep!!
I am still dong some laundry,, there were only three loads, but I kept falling asleep for hours in-between!!!!
We unpacked everything, emptied the coolers, I hauled luggage downstairs to its' shelf.
I cannot imagine how I would have risen at 4am to go to work, then work all day, then do this!! I have never been like this before....
We are discussing staying an extra day in Indian River so we can get two whole days at the beach there,, ,,,
I am definitely doing some serious sleeping tonight!!!!

We finally arrived home at 5:0pm. We made a few stops on the way home,, unscheduled,, to Hartwick Pines for a long beautiful walk in the ancient pine trees that DD has never seen,, on to West Branch for lunch and shopping,, bought a few Christmas gifts..
My house seems so huge after staying in those cabins..
While we were in Indian River, I was reading a C of C booklet in our cabin,,, I went online to check out different cabins and motel rooms to rent for next summer..
I found one about a quarter mile from our present one,, that is closer to Burt Lake and everything else,, same road, just closer.
The new place is a cabin, $3 less a night than our primitive 1930's(circa) cabin we are in, BUT it is totally refurbished. This place has wifi, central a/c, a full kitchen with micro,, a nice big bathroom with tub/shower ,, a small living room, TWO flat screen tv's. One in the bedroom(the bedroom has two beds) and one in the living room. The refrigerator is just a small dorm one, so we will have to make sure that our refrigerated foods are dwindled down to what can fit in that small space.. I told the man I would like it for next year at this time,, he told me to reserve it in May..
I am excited about this because it is closer to Burt Lake, more modern, free ice to refill our cooler for beach and return trip home,, wifi,, although both older places that we stayed at this wee did have it too..
we are going to make a list right away tomorrow for next year while both places are fresh in our minds.. we are both exhausted.. I could sleep right now..

there was a sandstorm on the beach today,, we were the first ones there at ten,, stayed about five or six hours,, the winds were gusting, sending sand on everything,, I went swimming twice,,but we are going to check out Mullet lake tomorrow after we check out of our cabin,, go home,,
we saw an ad in a Chamber of commerce booklet in our cabin and they had nice cabins a few blocks down the highway for $# less than I paid for these old log ones,, the new ones are one bedroom with two beds, flat screen in living room and bedroom.. a/c, private fire pit, full kitchen, very nice,, it is less expensive than this place and more amenities,,, closer to the beach and Shrine and highway.. we had them show us a couple sizes,, I told them we will reserve for next year,, same time.. '
it pays to read ads...
