345,600 seconds until vacation..

Sunday, August 12, 2012

We are still bailing water out of our basement,, DD has been down there a long time this morning/afternoon.. I am doing the upstairs housework, while she shopvacs the hundreds of gallons of water down there,,

Hauling boxes up and down the stairs, re-boxing things into plastic tubs,, we are supposed to ge teven more rain.. our town has a lot of flooding, so now the crops will be rotted instead of shriveled up from the drought the past four months.. my blackberries and raspberries ar growing well though..

If I had not filled my pool in with dirt, I could be swimming in it right now,, all this rain would have filled that huge hole up with water to the top!!

Well, I think our two huge pool towels are in the same place my clip-on water bottle and pepper shaker have gone.. fourth dimension or something..
I have some things already packed into bags, but cannot find those two towels,,,

Today I still am finishing up cleaning and making dinner, dishes, clipping and sorting coupons, using those bands.. and my stability ball..

So sorry you have such a flood in your basement. I sure hope nothing has been ruined. You really didn't need this and I think it''s probably against the law or something to swim in your basement.
Seriously though, praying for you and all that have been affected by all the rains you are having. I am sure you are more than ready for your vacation.

Up and at 'em before 5 this morning, slept in a bit.. still raining and blowing out there,, kinda scared to look out the window,,(it is still dark out) our temps dropped from the high nineties to 62 degrees! 100% humidity.. DD went outside last night to take pictures of all the water because some Sparkers did not believe her when she told them about this water and weather!!

Today is haircut day,, I hope I have some left after I walk out of he salon!! I chased my hat across a parking lot yesterday, people in their cars laughing at me,, oh well, I am glad I made somebody's day.. of course, the hat would stop just as I got to it, I would reach down to grab it, and Whoosh!! Off it would fly!! It probably happened about three times until I could run fast enough to put my foot in front of it!! God has a a sense of humor!!
SO do the people driving past me laughing apparently... emoticon

Lots of our cardio will be hauling boxes up from the basement, and attempting to walk in the marsh,, we are going out to the state park to check out the flooding right there on Lake Huron.. I hope the swans, beavers, egrets, cranes and all of those species of birds made it through okay...

518,400 seconds to Paradise vacation time!

Friday, August 10, 2012

I am not sure if it is possible to have a hurricane in Michigan, on the Lake, but here in Mid-Michigan, we have had 40mph gusting gales and constant, skin-pelting rain.. Gully washer rain, rain that pulls berries off plants!
Flooding everywhere,, DD found a small trickle leading from my garage wall headed towards the other end of my house(int the basement)!

the rain filled my rubbermaid garden buggy within inches of the top, just overnight!! Probably about twenty gallons...
I was so worried that my berries would dry up!! ha!!

Now i am worried that they wil all be blown off their teensy little stems before they ripen!! We have a bumper crop of blackberries,, huge!! The plant is only three years old!

We had something similar...not as much rain...run through us y'day; had to fix a couple pieces of vinyl siding that had started to lift on the end. We darn sure need the rain. Take care and all the best with the berries.

604,800 seconds to go!

Thursday, August 09, 2012

One week from today I will be finished with work and start my vacation! usually I wait for the mom bills to make a stack and pay them all at once, along with mine, but now I am doing the pay-as-they-arrive method to keep up with them before we leave. We did more banking today and picked up some free books from a donor from freecycle.org.. She left at least seven John Grisham hardcover books, plus about six of other paperbacks on her porch and we simply emailed her that we would pick them up and we did! IT is a great organization to belong ot.. We picked up jigsaw puzzles form a man across town a few months ago.. nice,, we than pass them along..all free,,

Debbieanne, , we are going to take our dustpan, place the dustpan underneath the huckleberry plants, which grow right ON the ground,, we then put the Afro pick underneath the plant and pull the berries off the plant, letting them fall into the dustpan. I have been stewing and planning, wondering all year, how to get those darned berries without killing my back,, I am unable to kneel anymore, so that is my choice..
pulling the tines between the teensy little stems of the plant and pulling those precious berries off the plant into the pan, MAY work.. if not, I will stand in the forest re-styling my hair into a "Fro" just to kill time!

LINDA Just ONE WEEK LEFT WooHoo Way to go.
I thought huckleberries were like black berries they sound more like Maine wild blueberries we use rake to get those up off the ground.
I only just heard about Freecycle.org I will look in to it when i ever get a minute from the computer. I am so glad you and DD are off on your trip. It will be great hugs Pat emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

LMBO!!! I was actually picturing you doing just what you said. If you get done early "picking" your berries, you may still have time to do your hair into the "FRO"!!!

Another beautiful summer day, but got muggier after non,, we closed the windows to aid our breathing.
Ran errands to Credit Union, grocery store for more lettuce and onions,, gotta have our salad!! Went to dollar store to buy some Afro picks and a couple other long-tined combs ,, I am going to jury-rig them to pick huckleberries in the forest next week. Last year I ended up bending over for 90 minutes in the hot sun to get those little buggers.. They are not like the tasteless, cultivated blueberries you buy in the store. they are the half size of a pea! They also do not grow on bushes up in the air that you just walk up to and pick. They grow right flat on the ground in the wilds of the forest,, they are also the main staple of black bears and moose up there!! I am pretty sure last year ti WAS a moose, not a bear, that I heard behind me when I was picking.
I am slightly smarter than I look, so I did not take the time to investigate WHO it was, just HOW FAR it was from me.

They say you do not have to be the fastest runner to stay live when confronted by them, you only have to be faster than the last person!! I WAS the only person, so I backed out of the forest posthaste!!
This year DD and I are picking together in the same place, so if you read a news story of a big, fat, white lady with huckleberry stains all over her face, getting attacked and killed by a 1.Bear
2.Moose

know it is me, because I would not let them get DD, I would take the attack and send her off with the berries.. that is what Moms do...
