Holy Macnamara's Band, it is H*O*T*!!!!!!

The landscapers are outdoors doing their thing, I put a gallon jug of filtered ice water out for them,, They have been at it for six hours in almost 100 degree heat, 96% humidity...
They do not need as much screened topsoil as estimated, so the price will be lower, but I asked for a cubic yard of it to be put near my berries on plastic, so I can move the dirt into those berry beds and not have to haul it across the yard.
No more swimming pool, splashing, floating.. BUT new garden next years, $$ saved from utilities and chemicals and water and sewer bills. I have already started saving that $$$ towards my next home project.. not sure what it will be, but I know it will cost $$ .. probably all new interior doors..

It is so hot and humid, I showered when I got home from work and I just went outside to talk to them about the dirt and I need to shower again!! Ewwww...

Hope you are able to stay cool. Glad you are saving some money on your topsoil. You will enjoy those gardens next year.

25 days before we leave...

Sunday, July 22, 2012

Today we will have a 95 degree temp, with thunderstorm,, no more perfect weather:we got one day!! While Dd is still asleep, I am headed off ot teh grocery stores to get us some essentials,, no bread, milk or fruits left here!! Sitting her epaying bills, sorting through more mail..

Ex will be here after I get home, to help saw off upper deck from lower,, he picked the hottest and worst weather day possible,, oh well..

With only a couple weeks left before we leave, my checklists are now starting.. DD is in charge of programming GPS for different places I have never been to before. I know the U.P like I know my name, but new places to see are on my agenda..
The annual trek demands that I go to Manley's to get smoked fish,, his is the best.. I love the smoked Menominee and whitefish, but do not like his fish sausage,, it is a biggie up there, but I do not like it..

I have already arranged for the neighbor to pick our mail up for us and watch the house(I am head of neighborhood watch).

I am hoping that my vacation eating will not outweigh the calories I burn from hiking, seeing the sights and swimming..
I belong to MyPoints, and I ordered a BP gas card a couple weeks ago,,it arrived Monday,, I always fill up at the same BP gas station in St.Ignace, say hi to the guy there, and head on up towards Canada. Now I do not have to spend a penny for the gas!!

Next week I will make appointments for tire rotation and check, then to my car guy for a under-the-hood-check and possible oil change.. I always do this before this big drive,, it will be around 800 or more miles total depending on our side trips,, one whole day will be to go to Da Tourist Trap for our Da Yoopers fix. Check out their website,, it's hilarious!!!

Sounds like you are getting things done. WAY TO GO on being organized and knowing that when you are ready to travel, you will have everything "up to snuff" and ready to "rock n roll".

26 days to go..

Saturday, July 21, 2012

I was up before anybody in the neighborhood; had breakfast, sorted mail, laundry and balanced checkbooks. We opened our windows yesterday afternoon for the first time in weeks!!
DD is still sleeping soundly, I have three rooms to clean before heading outdoors to try to remove more patio blocks,,Ex is coming tomorrow to saw off upper deck from lower deck..

The rainwater has soaked up slightly,, maybe two feet ,, the deep end still has a couple thousand gallons left: this area has mostly clay, so it is slow to go..

Wehn I wondered whether all of the home improvements and tons of insulation even did any good, I have no more doubts. Within five minutes of opening all of our windows and doors yesterday, we BOTH noticed how noisy it was outside!! Planes, motorcycles, horns, semi's, sirens, talking, music, cars, etc.. it was nice to hear, actually..

Sounds like you are zooming- that is a lot of work done early in the morning- you go girl!! Isn't insulation amazing with how much it closes off the noise- and hope it helps the heating bills also...

P.S.- thanks for your support on my blog- it was a stressful day and I'm pretty happy it started with old jeans that fit again and ended with me being able to resist desert! Now that is a great day.

We got a torrential rainstorm yesterday,, dumped enough water to refill the deep end of my pool.. landscape company is coming Monday morning to fill the whole thing in,, not sure how the water will fit in,, oh well, I am paying them to figure that out..
I have lots of correspondence to do today,, it is still very humid outdoors, so DD ahs left windows and doors all closed and sealed,,

with global warming, I believe that this is the fate of our future, confined to our homes if we cannot tolerate the "new" weather.. The past five years has left a dramatic change in the sunny days, humidity, schedule of rainfall,, we very seldom had drought conditions in MIchigan,, maybe the first week of August when the state was at its' hottest, but nowadays from spring through autumn, it is almost saturated humidity and stifling heat...It is like no air is allowed to move around, thus leaving us in a smothering, sticky, stalled air flow...

Linda we are the northen most US state and I am loving this summer. It used to be just like this in Augusta 47 years ago and the winters were deep snow.
I have done more yardworek than ever.I fixed the pool and it is as clear as it has ever been, I was the one to get the job done and I got the vinyl liner back under the rim. I am so spoiling for a fight with them now. HUGS Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon

The pool guys should know to bring a sump pump to get the water out. emoticon It'll be a muddy mess if they don't. Hope your weekend is better. It's time for this humidity to take a hike!

I would definitely leave that water to the men in the know. Can't believe I just said that...what was I thinking. LOL

Hope you get your correspondence completed today and the humidity isn't quite so bad. We have been getting rain since the middle of the night and there is flooding all around us. Hope things remain good with you and your DD.

Four weeks from today DD and I will be settled in our rental cabin,, she is driving across the Mackinac Bridge for the first time,, I have been across it at least close to a thousand times.. it was built when I was five years old..
Until I went to San Francisco and saw how small and short the bridge there is, I always felt this one here was not that big,, now I know better.. much more beautiful view of Mackinac Island, Toy-like ships passing underneath you, gorgeous blue water of Lake Michigan and Huron connecting,,
This summer is just flying by..

LINDA, I think the countdown is hurrying us along I keep seeing it get lower and that means the end of summer.

Our nights are already drawing in and that gives me a real let down, I would love to live some place where the days are longer. IN UK we used to have to go to bed by day. It was light till 10.30pm.
It's great you and DD are going to get away again. I hope you are well HUGS Pat
