today is the hottest day so far,, 94 with 95% humidity,,, I have been to AZ, South America, Mexico, California, Texas, Nevada, Washington, D.C, Vifrginia, Maruyland, New York, Canada, all around down south in summer months,, this takes the cake: turn your oven on 500 degrees, when it heats up, open teh door and put your face as close to the inside as you can without touching your skin to the oven. THAT is how hot it feels outside..

My A/C paid for itself this week!!!!!!

I am definitely not a fan of the hot weather. I would rather have cooler weather where I can put a sweater or sweatshirt on if necessary. It has been really miserable with the heat and humidity here this week also. It is way to early for this weather in the 90s...usually don't get this until August. UGH!! Love the AC!!!

I hear ya! Not a fan of hot weather either and I live in Atlanta. Luckily it's not so bad yet. Still tolerable at 10am around 72* and then climbs steadily toward 90 by late afternoon. So, activities tend to move indoors after 12 noon. One great thing is the laundry gets dry real fast outside on the line! emoticon

We had a 24 foot round Doughboy pool with a 7 1/2 foot deep end. For 24 years it gave us endless pleasure,, but like Pat said, open it the end of may or beginning of June, close it in September,, a couple times it was so warm, we swam until the middle of October, BUT now I have many health challenges, , the biggest one being carpal tunnel and diabetic neuropathy, and severe arthritis. My whole yard is surrounded by 30-50 foot trees(On railroad property) so thousands of gallons of skanky wormy composted leaves are on our cover each spring,, it takes days of us bailing them out BY HAND and with pickle pails,,, slimy manure smelling and FEELING stuff all over us,,,
we had to literally, put on old swimsuits or raggedy shirts and shorts(with no undies) on,, be covered with this stuff for hours while we got it off the pool cover,, then the rest of that day or another, just to hook things up c=scrub that cover after we finally got it OFF the top of the clean pool water without getting any gunk in the water,,, then fill the pool start it up, etc...

Closing was reverse, not as hard, but just as time consuming,, an above ground pool is very hard work,, inground is a breeze: I have helped ;with many, many types and I cannot believe how easy they all are compared to our situation!!
Add the electric bill, chemicals, repairs, water and sewer bill.. liability.. and you see how it was..

The pool did not owe me any $$$, it served its' purpose,, now it is time for me to maybe take off on a weekend and travel, go to the thousands of lakes and beaches and rivers we are blessed to have here.. but that dive in my clear, personal oasis was fantastic..

Neighbors next door have a a huge custom Beattie pool , 40 feet long, 20 feet wide, with a 9 1/2 foot deep end. I have cleaned that one many times too.. I know they would let us swim, but I will not ask,, I love my privacy and we would be like goldfish in THEIR bowl there..
it is like my dog: I loved her, I miss her terribly every single day, BUT now I can try things I was unable to do before,, like leave the house without worrying somebody would jump over my fence and drown in my pool.

I did see the pools that Sears has: have thought of maybe just getting a small one for just sitting in and cooling off, but still the same problem of cleaning, storing, etc.
I would rather rent a cabin on one of our beautiful lakes for a week and enjoy all of that water that I suffered through snowstorms to get!!!

LINDA, I am right there with you. If DH had not fallen in on Fathers day i had hoped for another couple of years. Ours is an 18 by 36 with 9 deep. 20 by 40 needed two filters and so we opted for this. It too had serve us well since 1976.
The man who installed it is coming over to help us make decisions based on the financial outcome. The Maple tree that messed ours up was taken down last fall so leaves were no issue for this first year. DH and I could of opened it up on our own. Fill it up and throw the switch but the floods this spring has left the water table high. It is decision time. Thanks for sharing. emoticon emoticon emoticon Pat in Maine.

I am definitely with you on getting away to the lakes for a while and enjoying a great time. I definitely understand what you are saying and thought you lived near some great water areas.
With your health issues and interests, I think you are smart to enjoy each day as it comes and do the things that bring you and your DD pleasure when and where you want!!! Have a great summer!!
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Blessings and hugs,
Helen

Enjoying your countdown!!!

I think I have not lost weight lately, but my trousers are fitting less snugly. We are still sitting here wondering what we are going to do with to thousands of hours we usually spent in the pool all summer,, I would come home from work, get swimsuit on immediately, jump in and be in there until dinnertime,, about four hours,, then another swim afterwards,, on weekends, it was all day from early morning until bedtime..
our bay supposedly has thick, slimy sludge that you have to wade through to get out to to nice water,, I am going to investigate soon.. we already hike there frequently, might as well cool off too.. we will see,,

With all the work you have been doing, it's no wonder your trousers are fitting looser!! You are doing a great job. Didn't mean to push the pool thing earlier...sorry.
Blessings and hugs,
Helen

HI LINDA, DH fell on to and in to the pool cover and as I thought our liner is floating. This is decision time, big time for us too. Ours is concrete and steel. I still think I will stock it with trout and let the grands fish all day. HUGS, I will not miss ours but I know you will miss yours. I think you could handle another but winterising is the pits with a short season up here. HUGS Take care Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Do any of your friends or neighbors have a pool that they will share with you? McKenzie's parents got an awesome pool from Sears (i think) that is 18' by 9' by 5 feet deep that doesn't use all those chemicals but rather uses salt. It is big enough for them to all play around in and cool off even if her parents at 6' plus are too tall to swim laps. They do have rafts in it, etc. and have a great time.
This will show you the pool they have although theirs came from Sears.

Not sure that you are in the market for another pool of your own. But this one can be left up even through the winter also.
Hope you can find one close by that you and DD can pop in and out of at your convenience.
Blessings and hugs,
Helen

I vote for getting another pool.
Water shoes would help keep that guck off your pretty feet. I don't know about your legs though.

DD threw her pool cover away. Her trash man told her he sure wished she had cut it up into smaller pieces and put into more trash bags because it was so heavy. How did he think she got it out to the road for him. lol
I am sure you really miss your pool. Have you found a substitute one close to you yet that you will be able to enjoy? WOOHOO on the cardio and strength exercises today!!!
I am counting the days with you..

Hi LINDA, Sorry about the stinky pool cover. Ours is still on the pool. Almost the first day of summer and still a cool breeze.
I cut down more junipers and I am taking back what little back yard we have left. We put the pool in and lost space and then a 2 car garage, it's still not big enough. So we are re-claiming by cutting them down. Every time DH cuts the grass he ends up bleeding so i decided to get rid of the mess. Never realised how fat the trunk is. WOWSERS! are they ever big an\d heavy.

HUGS Keep on counting. HUGS Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
