Rainy day

Saturday, May 26, 2012

It is cloudy and sprinkling outside.. no surprise, it is like this every Memorial weekend.. usually it is about thirty degrees colder though..
I hope my scrapguy is waterproof and shows up today.. I am just cleaning my house and glad I do not work until Monday..

Thinking of my Dad and others who sliced time out of their lives for what they believed.. us, our futures, our safety. Please do not be embarrassed to walk up to a total stranger if he/she is a vet and thank them for doing this. They all deserve this, at the very least.

I did just that today after our Memorial Day service today. He just smiled and saluted. Later I had a chance to talk to him and he knew my dad from back in their day together. That really made me feel good especially as my dad has been deceased for over 32 years.

I really miss my dad too and he's been gone since 1979 just after my younger daughter was born.
I wish I could thank you dad for all he did for our country.

I miss my dad too and he's been gone a long time. I don't actually know anyone who served in a war zone.

I just got a phone call from the gentleman that was supposed to be here yesterday to dismantle my pool: he got busy at home and did not call me,, I thought he chickened out because it is such a HUGE job... I prayed that HE would send me somebody that would not charge me $$.. Richard just called and he will be here Saturday morning..
I am happy about this.. a co-worker may come today to buy my pool chemicals for their pool, if her hubby gets out of work on time.. he manages a Sherwin Williams store, so they are very busy now..

I hope to sell my other parts to my contractor,, I have no clue how much fill dirt and black dirt cost, but hope this will help pay to fill that area in,, especially the deep end..
I know I will get what I need, I love the learning process of all of this, I am used to doing for myself, so having help with this pool thingie is a blessing.

I also am very aware that the State of Michigan started a new program last year that offers you a state-wide sticker for $10. You merely pay the $ with your license plate tab renewal and it gives you access to any state park, recreation area or campground. This state is famous for the lakes, rivers, camping and boating,, It has the second largest number of registered boats in the U.S... this means that SOMEBODY sent this little gem to me just as I was about to lose my swimming hole here at home!! Now it is up to me to travel and find new places and people to enjoy the water with all summer..

I look forward to more adventures out there.. wish I could hop in a travel trailer and go visit all my fellow Sparkers across the country though,, Now, THAT is an adventure!!!

BTW I was picked as a Spark motivator yesterday,, What a thrill!!!

I'm so glad your pool project is coming along. It's a blessing to have the privilege of helping somebody else. I'm glad you're a recipient when you need it.

Congratulations on being selected as a SP Motivator. The position is well deserved. You motivate me.

i have been inside my pool pumping water out, slicing the liner around the bottom for removal later,, still waiting for scrapguy to show up,,
I started using my ratchet to get the screws out of the decking all around the top of the pool,, only half of them came off, my right hand is throbbing from the actions,, it is the hand I just had surgery on for carpal tunnel,, I sprayed all of the screws with WD40 and still a no-go on them,,
I DID climb through the blown out wall of the pool to get inside,, it is very sad to think of all the years we had hundreds of thousands of hours of enjoyment from that pool,, 24 years,,,

It killed me to slice into that $300 liner that is only three years old.... my winter cover is torn also from the weight of the snow.. i just bought it last September,,
I finally got hot and tired, pumped all the water I could from the bottom of the deep end and stopped working on it...
now I am just depressed about this big change in our life,, the pool represents a time in our lives when I was going through a divorce, health challenges, and my DD and I were blessed to have this brand new form of entertainment that kept our minds off our life situation.. many friends and relatives spent hours here, lots of great relaxing memories.. all from a pool of water!!!

Intellectually and physically, I know I can no longer handle it's upkeep , but in my heart it was a Godsend. I may plant a garden if I can handle that,, we will see,, I do NOT do well with change,, had a rotary phone until fifteen years ago!!

I know I am very old fashioned in some of my thinking, but most of it is just plain old German stubbornness...

Hey, I have German stubborness too! Build a communal garden. Have those same friends and family who enjoyed the pool help you. Then you can all share the work and share the crops. It's time to make new memories.

I'll bet there are lots of people who don't even know the sound of dialing a rotary phone anymore. I collect antique phones and some have been updated to work on today's phone system. I had to get a new one so I could push 1 for this and 2 for that :( I still answer my old Kellogg crank phone and I love the sound of my phones ringing.

Most people have trouble with change. We Sparkers know this well. I'm sure you will think of a way to make your pool area into something that will celebrate this new phase in your life.

I am sorry that you are having to give up your pool. They are a lot of work but oh, so much fun! I have read several of your blogs on this subject and can't help knowing that you are saying "goodbye" to an old and dear friend. Hang in there!

What a wonderful gift this day is !!

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

It is beautiful weather, work went smoothly, got some bills paid,,

looking forward to DD grilling patty melts,, I have never had one,, we are using onion rolls instead of rye bread...
laundry on the line, pool is almost empty, scrap guy coming tomorrow afternoon to dismantle,, crossing my fingers I can climb into the wall of the pool and play around with the leftover five hundred or so gallons of sludge, water and compost that is left in the deep end.. then have to slice up the liner, roll it up, remove from pool,,etc..

I hope everybody is enjoying this day!!!

Patty melts are great! I love the grilled rye bread! We use provolone cheese on ours instead of American cheese. Also add some grilled onions once in awhile, too.
Good luck with that pool!!!!
