My healthy Saturday - spiritually, physically, mentally, nutritionally

My day started with a phone call from DH, who is 1800 miles away dealing with his 98 yr old mother. After our warm little chat, I quickly showered and headed out for a nonfat latte and berry muffin, then walked up the hill to synagogue for Sabbath morning services. There were only 3 of us who showed up, including the person who was to lead the service - so we all sat up front and just took turns reading the liturgy and singing the prayers. It was peaceful, spiritually uplifting, and set the tone for the day.

After that, I drove to the marina and walked a while, watching the fish in the water, the several heron (great white, and two small blue herons) walking in the swampy area, the crabs skittering across the rocks. I visited a few friends who work in shops, and just walked outside enjoying the day, the sun and blue sky, the brisk breeze, and creation in general.

Then I shopped for dinner - which will be salad with fresh fruit, and a few shrimp (yes, I do not keep kosher) which I will grill. I walked back to my car - logging about 3.5 miles thus far for the day.

And I think I'll have a relaxing afternoon - a lot of water, a shady spot on the porch, and a good book. My salad dinner later, maybe splurge on a little glass of wine to get those good antioxidants. And enjoy the time alone, doing the things I like to do but never seem to have time to do when DH is home.

The laughing gulls are here. They come in the spring, and leave after hurricane season is over in the fall. They're white with a black head and grey wings - but the underside of the body and wings is all white. So as they fly over our water, they reflect a pale turquoise on the underside of their body. And when they fly over red roofs, they go all pink underneath. Or pale green when flying over the trees.

Do we reflect our surroundings like the laughing gulls? Do I reflect the peacefulness I feel on a day like today?

So spoke another teacher I ran into at school on Friday, as I went in to talk to the principal.

"If I had been out walking with you, I wouldn't have this" as she looked down at her tush and hips.

So I gave her the SparkPeople website, gave her a little encouragement, and a few pointers - walk each day, eat less, eat smart, walk some more.

And told her that we're starting a group in the fall.

I can only hope it helps.

June - Swimsuit bootcamp bonuses

Because I don't remember from day to day.

6/2 - Bonus - keep sodium low (under 2300) - not quite, but at least I was below 3000, LOL!

6/3 - Bonus - create a workout plan for the month - the plan is to walk every day, at least 30+ minutes; swim when I can; do the bootcamp workouts daily (days 1 to 7). DONE!

6/4 - Bonus - 2 sets (10-15 reps) of Dumbbell Triceps Kickbacks - Not done

6/5 - Bonus - extra activity, healthy opportunity - DONE! - parked at far ends of parking lots to get in extra walking while doing errands between jobs and meetings

6/6 - Bonus - Coach Nicole's 6 Minute Hips, Glutes & Thighs Workout video - not done

6/7 - Bonus - Stay in calorie range - DONE!

6/8 - Bonus - 3 sets of DB crunches - not done, got busy with other stuff

6/9 - Bonus - new/different veg - hmmm, my vegs are varied and different - just bought artichoke, asparagus, arugula, radicchio - as well as carrots, onions, etc. Will see what I can come up with. - Nada - after graduation, I just couldn't go shopping, went home and had dinner with tomatoes for the veg.

6/10 - Bonus - clean out closet, eliminate oversized or unflattering clothes - LOL, I feel like I do this monthly! - Okay, have a pile of clothes to get rid of or wear only when gardening, cleaning, painting.

6/11 - Bonus - mermaid stretch - cool name - skipped, had a late meeting.

6/12 - Bonus - sparkrecipes.com - use or add - Done - added my very easy asparagus frittata

6/13 - Bonus - try to get a perfect pie chart - my ideal is 50% carb, 25% protein, 25% fat. Not today.

6/14 - Bonus - try a new exercise, cardio or strength - mostly walked, but moved a bunch of tiles for an art project - so not my usual cardio.

6/15 - Bonus - pampering! - Done - let myself have a very lazy morning!

6/16 - Bonus - develop reward system - Done - I have my next reward (clothing) sitting in a friend's closet!

6/17 - Bonus - cleanse the kitchen of tempting and unhealthy treats - Done, they don't come into the house! If I need a scoop of ice cream, I go get a single scoop - so there isn't the temptation of more!

6/18 - Bonus - DB shrugs - Done - 2 x 15 x 8

6/19 - Bonus - make list of what I like about myself - mental list, not written - and I think I'm very funny!

6/20 - Bonus - double leg raises - not done, fell asleep early

6/21 - Bonus - read an article on SP - Done, I've actually read all of them, some more than once

6/22 - Bonus - 3 x 15 DB side bends - Done - 2 x 20 x 8

6/23 - Bonus - review SP pledge - Done

6/24 - Bonus - make workout harder by adding weights or doing more difficult variation - not done, I didn't do much of anything today.

6/25 - Bonus - start a streak - I think mine will be sleeping 7 to 8 hrs per night, which I don't do during the school year - I need more sleep! - have slept at least 7 hrs for the last 3 nights, will aim to keep this up. Note 6/26 - still getting 7 to 8 hrs per night, 4 nights now.

6/26 - Bonus - fruit for dessert - Yup, having strawberries tonight.

6/27 - Bonus - read food labels - Done, I'm fanatic about this. Don't buy it if it has too many cals, too many additives, too many non-nutritive substances.

6/28 - Bonus - read the motivational stories on SP - all done

6/29 - Bonus - plan July 4 party strategies - Done, all planned!

6/30 - Bonus - track EVERYTHING you eat - Done - already do this!

  


I guess it's working! - Bootcamp update

Within the last week, three different people have commented that I've lost weight.

The scale says I haven't.

Which must mean that either A. three different people have seen the same wrong thing about me, or B. I've lost inches.

I'm guessing it's the inches. I'm guessing the swimsuit bootcamp has toned and tightened a bunch of my body parts.

Actually, I wore a dress on Thursday, and barely recognized myself in the mirror.

I AM looking smaller! Woohooooooo! Thank you bootcamp, thank you Coach Nicole, and thank you SparkPeople!
