Goofy 19.4/Wine & Dine Half Marathon 3.4

Sunday, September 11, 2011

Okay, so I'm a day or two behind in blogging, as usual, so this is from yesterday's training run. I had a quick 3.31 mile spin around the neighborhood, and it was hot, hot, hot out there! Grateful for the warmth and sunshine, though, since in a couple of months, when it starts to get cold and even snowy, I'll be wanting the summer weather back!! I thought a lot about 9/11, mainly how I'm in shock and disbelief that it was TEN years ago, yet the memories remain as raw and vivid as ever. My plan for this morning would be to run 9.11 miles, as part of a group of Facebook friends running 9.11 to remember 9/11/01, and then spectate at today's Ironman Wisconsin. Also, I contemplated some plans to alleviate my intense raceday cravings...a possible road trip to run the Fox Cities Half Marathon next weekend. The decision isn't 100% yet, but I'm seriously considering it, especially since I'm due for a 14 mile training run that same day. Things that make you go hmm.

RB, do it! I was so tickled with myself that even when there was just run runner behind me during the NewBo HM I still stuck at training pace during the HM. With all the looooong long runs you have coming up, why not? Help out a charitable running event and collect bling in the end. To me, its a win-win situation.

ps...so sorry about your car problems yesterday. I feel so badly for you and in downtown Madison too.

Goofy 19.3/Wine & Dine Half Marathon 3.3

Saturday, September 10, 2011

On Thursday night, I wrestled with a running-related problem that I haven't really seen since I last ran on the treadmill, a few months ago - BOREDOM! Seriously?! Does this ever happen to you? Wonder if this was just a one-time fleeting thing or if it's a sign that I should change things up a bit. Hmmm. In other news, one of my favorite sporting events of the year, Ironman Wisconsin, is coming up this weekend! One of my co-workers will be racing in it, and I'm incredibly excited for her. And yes, I will be there with bells on, as a SPECTATOR, mind you!!

Last year, I followed an Ironman from my original hometown and the day was so awesome following her online. When i went to bed that night, melinda had not yet finished. I was so awe struck the next morning when she shared her story and photos via Facebook. Ironman is not for the faint of heart and tomorrow will be so special for you. Happy spectating!

Goofy 19.2/Wine & Dine Half Marathon 3.2

Pretty typical training run (although with extra good weather) in the midst of a very stressful sort of week! Not only was there a LOT LOT LOT of work, but also we got smacked with a *gulp* $3000 car repair bill! NOT fun, right?! In better news, my trip to Florida for Wine & Dine is just three weeks away...am long overdue for some chillaxin' at the House of Mouse!

RB, I have a Frankenplan too cuz I know exactly what I need. The days of following A PLAN to the letter is long gone. i know what to feel and adjust accordingly. As a heads up, I will be throwing in yet abother HM a week after I run Air Force next weekend. Our Air Force vet son will be running his first HM during the Quad Cities Marathon (my very first HM ever in 2010) and i fully intend on running this sucker with him. Be there!

Sidenote...we are putting on $600-ish worth of new tires put on our primary car this week. Ka ching!

Goofy 19.1/Wine & Dine Half Marathon 3.1

Tuesday, September 06, 2011

Yesterday, I was treated to some BEAUTIFUL early fall-like weather, so had to take the opportunity to get out for my first training run of the week: 7.1 miles around town...a completely scenic tour including a couple of parks, downtown, the local high school, and the sewage plant! I'm now 75% of the way to my 2011 mileage goal, and getting very excited about W&D Half Marathon, which is now less than four weeks away. EEK! Where is the time going?

Goofy Week 18/Half-of-a-Half Marathon (Virtual) Race Report

Monday, September 05, 2011

Due to a severe lack of training this week, due in part to lingering illness (which thankfully is better by now) and complete overload at work that had me working after hours three nights during this work week, I only have one particularly noteworthy blog entry to share about Goofy week 18/W&D week 2! This week, many of my friends traveled to Disneyland for their annual half marathon weekend...and as you know, one of my big running-related wishes is to get out there one day and earn myself a coveted Coast to Coast medal! So I let a few sighs escape as I saw the Disneyland photos start appearing on my Facebook feed. Happy for my pals, but sooooo wanted to be out there partying with them!

A bunch of people in my online running group were feeling a bit bummed about missing out on the Disneyland party, so to commiserate and enjoy an extra bit of fun on this holiday weekend, we organized a virtual race. Basically, anyone in the group who wanted to would run a set distance (6.55 miles, a quarter marathon) on the course of their choice with the people they choose at a convenient time on Sat/Sun...oh yeah, and eat their choice of sweet treat at the finish (the recommendation was donuts or munchkins). Just for fun, I documented my virtual race experience with a blog and photos. Technically I ran alone, but didn't feel like it since I was "ghost running" my pals at Disneyland, my running buddy Laurie, who celebrated her birthday by running a half, and everyone else participating in this virtual race. I had a blast, and it was just the pick me up I hoped for at the end of a long, rather arduous work week! Here's the link to my (virtual) race report, and my other (non-training) blogs from earlier in the week can be found by going to the blog's home page and scrolling down, if you're interested.
