Kindergarten graduation

Friday, May 31, 2013

What a joyous day to see my grandson, Donovan, graduate from Kindergarten.

The proud parents and little brother.

Aunt Melanie took time off to attend.

Baby Davis has big shoes to fill.

It would not be graduation without Grandpa and Grandma.

First grade, here I come!

I hope that this is the start of many graduations to come.
Did you all go and celebrate afterwards? You are lucky
to have grandchildren. Everyone tells me they are such
a joy. I will be waiting a long time I think. emoticon

When to walk away.

Saturday, May 18, 2013

I have a friend. We are neighbors. We started going to Zumba together. Our grandkids play together after school. So why do I want to walk away? She no longer encourages me by going to Zumba. Her idea of a good time is to go out to eat or sit in a lawn chair watching the kids play. I need to be active, I need to limit my meals out. I also need someone to encourage me. I don't need to hear her build up her 35 year old son and degrade her DIL, who lives in the same house. I don't need to hear how crazy the other grandmother is, she is a nice person that drives down twice a week (2 hours each way) and takes the kids to the park. I don't need her pulling me down. It's going to be hard to drop her. She lives so close and can monitor my movements. Her GD is great, and I want to have my GS play with her. I don't want to hear idle chat anymore about her son. By the way, he is a registered sex offender. He scares me. She does not know that I know and that the other neighbors know. He has anger issues and PTSD. He can be violent. She will continue to defend him. I will slowly walk away and leave her to dote on her son. I pray that I can slowly work that toxic person out of my life.

OMGoodness Pat! Don't walk away, RUN! You need to be safe and keep your grandson safe. Not just because her son is a sex offender, but you don't want to be around someone that is negative about everything and everybody. You seem to be a well grounded and caring person, you don't need her. Reach out to someone else!

GOANNA2 5/18/2013 8:11PM

I agree with you. Go it on your own. You don't need
people like that to hold you back. Go to zumba and
keep yourself active. Toxic relationships are hard
to take. Just make sure you are there when your
GS plays with the GD. I am just in the process of
stayoing away with a 'toxic' friend. It is hard but I
know that being around her makes me unhappy too.
I'll be praying for you. Don't feel sad about it either.

I will no longer whine about being in the country with no neighbors. You've shown me things can be worse. Everyone has giving great advice so I'll just let you know I've said a pray for you, her, him, and the children. I pray you'll be able to do this with out getting anyone angry. Wouldn't want any retaliation.

Doing what is right and what is necessary is not always easy, as a matter of fact it often is rather difficult. But it sounds to me like a great burden will be lifted from your shoulders if you are taking this step. I pray for wisdom and peace for you in this situation!

You've made a wise decision. And being friends with someone so blatantly (obnoxiously, perhaps) co-dependent is as Sallie indicates: toxic. Such people feed on the negative; their support of wrongdoers perpetuates and accelerates problems. Until/unless she changes, she really is not someone whose energies qualify her as a good friend... Life can be complex enough without inviting problems into the mix. When we find ourselves thinking "I like him/her, BUT..." we do need to pay attention to that qualifier sometimes.

The DIL and little girl may have a long, rough road ahead of them. Somehow I suspect 'the other grandmother' about whom your neighbor complains... just may be aware that her DD and GD will be needing her...

Raspberry56 gave some great advice - if the kids are going to play,do make sure that it is where you are supervising it . You need to make the choices that are best for you and also the ones that are best for the grandson in your care....u.DGS deserves the best - and so do y

Registered sex offender, eh? I'd not only walk, but run like hades! I know I don't know the entire situation, but to my mind, here's the bottom line.....you have a family to consider - I would have "walked" a long time ago - as soon as I found out about the son's - ahem - "status" in life......

I understand the difficulty in the issue you face, but with young children in your life you must protect them by any and all means necessary - that one poster's suggestion that the youngsters meet up and play in *your* home with you at the watch sounds like a very prudent idea!

You impress me as having a very good, big, warn heart and soul - I have no doubt that you can find better quality relationships - you deserve it!

It's so hard, isn't it? My mom explained it well years ago as I was working to remove myself from a toxic relationship with someone who had been a friend, but I was no longer enjoying her company. Our parenting styles were just too different and it was becoming problematic. It's hard to 'break up' with a friend. When it comes to dating, there's usually an official break up - a sense of closure - it's done. When you date, you get to know someone and eventually decide whether or not you're compatible with this person. It's not that simple with friendships. You get to know someone ... but what happens when you discover that you're NOT enjoying this person's company anymore (for whatever reasons there may be)? How do you end a friendship without hurting someone's feelings? It's not as cut and dry a process. It's hard! I agree with the other posters, be 'busy', try not to engage or respond to the negativity...it will be hard, but kudos to you for recognizing what's best for you and not letting yourself get sucked into it.
Sending you strength!

OMG I feel so sorry for that little gal living in that house!!!!
Yes stay away and never let your GS play with the little gal unless in your home or in your sight...
My thoughts worries and prayers are with you....

YES walk away --you do not need this kind of relationship
If I lived near we would go to zumba and have a blast ---that is what you need..
hope you can hook up with a gal in class that will keep you motivated ..

You know that many times we find ourselves growing away from people. At a time when we need them they are there but then they may change. Maybe she is trying to hold on to her family or maybe she feels guilt for how her son became. It is so hard to know but you should walk away if you feel afraid and should not keep yourself bottled up. Only you can know how you feel. It will be hard at first but just don't feel guilty for how you feel. I have said a prayer for them to maybe move away and find a place away from others. I hope everything turns out ok. In my heart I know there is good and bad in us all and I pray the good will come out eventually and turn them around.

A day for poetry.

Saturday, May 04, 2013

I feel like composing a poem today, so let's see how this works out.

I started Sparks a year ago, not so very long.
Compared to other weight loss plans, this one is very strong.
The food and exercise trackers help to lead the way.
To better health and energy, to help me through my day.
I could not make it by myself, Spark friends are sure the key.
To make my life much better, a slimmer, trimmer me.

Black cat

Thursday, April 18, 2013

This morning I was walking my grandson to the bus stop with the baby in the stroller. I had a black cat cross my path. Instead of falling for the usual superstition, I thanked God for the green grass, slight breeze, sun shine, tulips and daffodils in bloom and all that is good.
