Optimism finally pays off.

Sunday, March 24, 2013

I've always kept my head up even when the scale would not budge. I was stuck at 197 for over a month. (Maybe I should just call it maintaining.) Well this morning, low and behold 196! It may not seem like much to some people, but to me, it shows that I can do this and keep at it for as long as it takes.

I think I have had 100 of those maintaining plateaus! emoticon I just figure as long as I don't gain, I'm ok with it! But, I am eager to make this happen...so my bike riding has really helped me break my last plateau!

I was stuck at 168 for over a year.
Unfortunately, then I started gaining 1/2 - 1 lb a month for the next year or so- no matter what I did.

I hate scales!!!! I do my best not to get on it all the time!! What I do is wait until I visit my Primary Doc (every 3 months) and we get to see it together!! That's a treat...he really can't believe what he's seeing because he thought I would never lose an ounce! (so did I)

What a difference a new pair of sneakers can make.

Saturday, March 23, 2013

I have 2 daughters, one works out all the time but is still heavy. She eats right and is still heavy. She just had a baby by C-section 5 weeks ago and was back in the gym at 4 weeks doing zumba, hip-hop and using the machines. I know she will get back in shape after because she is and has been committed to good health. My second daughter is 23. She just keeps going up and up in weight. At one point she said she did not want to lose weight and did not want to talk about. She was happy with her body and did not care what others thought. I left her alone to her destructive ways. Well the weight keeps going up and up. She called me this week. She said she got on a scale and was disgusted with her weight. emoticon A light bulb finally went on in her head. I feel so much better that she came to the realization on her own. I told her I would take her out and buy new sneakers. At first when we were looking I was asking her what she thought of different shoes. Sneakers are sneakers she said. She found a pair that she liked and tried them on. Walla, they were the most comfortable sneakers she had ever tried. They were $80.00 but were on sale and I had $10.00 Kohls' cash, a $10.00 discount card on a $25 purchase, and I had a 20% off coupon. I ended up paying $40..00. She said she could not wait to go home and put them on and go for a walk. Yippee! emoticon

That's really good that she realized it on her own. I have
a son who is overweight and I did get him on spark and
started tracking his food. then he started working as a
cabbie working 12 hour shifts and eaating junk food I'm
sure. He's back at University now and today he showed
me a meal plan and told me he will do his own shopping
and cooking.
It's based on the Paleo diet, so I hope he succeeds this time.
As many times as we tell our kids, they each arrive at the
'eureka' moment in their own time and all we can do is support
them. I also bought him new sports shoes and I hope he will use
them too. That was a wonderful gift you gave your daughter.
Good price too. emoticon

My daughter is 33 and thinks I'm WAAAYYYY too focused on weight. Of course, she's not and doesn't even own a scale!

It's a touchy subject so we just don't talk about it. She says she's healthy and I think, "for now". But she's a grownup and has to make her own decisions.

I'm happy your daughter is doing something positive! Those sneakers were a good investment!

I need to get new workout shoes because the ones I have are hurting my feet. Thanks for giving me the nudge I need to get going on that errand.

Good for you for letting your daughter get to her own realization that she was motivated to work on her self improvement. That's a better motivation than doing it for someone else.

Good news

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

I went to the doctors today because I thought I had an infection (which I do) but I was talking to her about my most recent blood sugar tests from a month earlier. Good news, she said I am no longer considered pre-diabetic. I also lost 4 lbs since my last weigh in with her. She has started to refer her patients to Spark People. Yeah!

Was it the beer, the sun or a combination of both?

Saturday, March 16, 2013

I went in the pool today at our hotel and then went in to change clothes before heading down to the beach. My husband went down to the beach before me. I changed into a new bright pink and white tank top and shorts and headed down. I was on the crossover walk when I found my husband and he saw me. He said that when he saw me come over the crosswalk, he though it was a young spring breaker. So I have to ask, do you think it was the beer, the sun or a really great husband?

All right Pat...go for it! About the time you come back Florida will be having a heat wave LOL. on't get too sunburned but enjoy the sunshine and the palm trees. I loved the soft breeze. When we we were younger...about 13 I guess, we went every year for awhile. Dad had friends in Georgia. We lived there when I was little ..moved back to Illinois after I graduated kindergarten in caps and gowns. It was in Macon Georgia.
Then when hubby was a truck driver we lived in Ocala for about a year. It was too expensive.
