Officially I've lost 20 pounds and couldn't be more happy about it. I'm fitting into clothes better, or not so good if they were a larger size and they are falling off or are too baggy.

I hit that 20 lbs this week, even after the last 2 wks I didn't make it to the gym. I still watched what I ate, and with all the running around at work, I managed to shed that last pound and reach a goal.

I have a vacation this week and will get back to they gym scene and work out. Hopefully work will settle down on catering and I'll be able to make it to gym after my shifts in the following weeks to come and lose another 10. I work on 10 lbs goals and only focus on that, instead of the whole picture. Today I'm going to Duluth and I'm sure there will be a lot of walking again but it will be better since I'm outdoors and not in my little store at work putting in 3 miles in 9 hours there. I'd rather put 3 miles in a shorter time, and not be at the store.

    Congrtulations! I can see that your interim goals are working for you. I like that approach. I have five year goals, one year goals, one month goals and weekly goals that I track daily. Sounds like a lot, but it helps me to stay on track. Congrats on 20lb loss! That must feel fantastic on your body! And it sounds like you get to do a lot of walking during the day, which is so healthy. I struggle to incorporate activity into my day and tend to do "workouts". Even so, doing the workouts is one way to gain strength and lose excess weight so that I CAN be more active.

Way to go!!!!!

  What a great job you are doing! And won't it feel wonderful to be on vacation... you can certainly enjoy walking up and down a lot of hills in Duluth and nothing beats a hike in the woods - ENJOY!

My week from hell

OH my gosh, this week has sucked. We were down our baker, I worked more hours than I wish I had, I'm scheduled with over time this week Our work week is Wed-Tuesday. Too many hours, lack of sleep TOM and Easter all combined. I over ate, I wanted sweets, and chocolate. I gained 2 lbs back and I feel like crap about it, because I know I did this to myself and instead of my usual getting to the gym I made it once and ate like crap all week.

Today, I'm having friends over, we're having a healthy pot luck I'm making two things from Spark Recipes and we're having other salads etc..

I'm hoping to get back on track, because gaining it back sucks.

    Bad weeks happen, sounds like yours was a doozie tho. Remember you were under stress with the extra work and a holiday. Give yourself some slack and just snd you can get back on track. Set backs happen, thats life.

April goals.

April is going to be tough for me but I'm going to accomplish my goals. After seeing the numbers from March 1st to April 1st I'm more than ready to be motivated some more.
April 1st Measurements and this is no joke

Weigh yourself - 187; March 1st- 193
Measure your Waist - 39; March 1st - 40
Measure your Hips - 42.5; March 1st - 43
Measure your Thigh - 26.5; March 1st - 27
Measure your Upper Arm - 11.75; March 1st - 12
Measure your Waist to Hip Ratio - .93; March 1st - .93
Measure your Body Fat % - 32.2 ;March 1st - 33.2

I also fit in my size 14 khaki's and size 12 skinny jeans comfortably. However until I'm further down in inches and weight, I'm not going to be buying any new clothes. I can't afford to buy clothes on a regular basis plus I hate shopping.

My goals for April
Continue going to the gym 3-4 x a wk. Or at least 12 x a month
Continue tracking my food intake
Continue not drinking pop
Continue drinking water
Continue eating some sort of breakfast

I know breakfast is important, and I have been eating something for breakfast like oatmeal or at the very least a smoothie. I just don't like the feeling that, after only a couple of hours I'm hungry again and need a snack. I know it is doing something, since I'm losing weight but my tummy hates feeling empty and I did better holding off on food before I started eating breakfast on a regular basis.

Does this feeling go away, or is it just going to be a new norm?

    Make sure to get protein of some sort in your breakfast, that always helps to keep me full longer.

    I wish eating smaller meals through out the day worked I work in a resturant with not a lot of time for little snacking. Also making a lot for breakfast at 3:30 in the morning is difficult.

    I agree with the previous posters that breakfast is the most important meal and you should have many small meals rather than 3 large ones. That being said, your breakfast doesn't look there is much protein in it so you're missing what keeps you full for longer! Try having some egg whites as a side to your oatmeal or smoothies. Another option is to put protein powder in either of your breakfast options.

Skipping breakfast just so that you don't get hungry before lunch is not a good idea. The reason that holding off on breakfast reduces hunger is that you have not kick-started your metabolism for the day. Therefore, you're going to burn fewer calories doing your daily routine than if you had breakfast.

    I eat 6 small meals a day - every 3 hours - so I usually stay stable throughout the day.

    I was the same way. I never ate breakfast because then I could not make it to lunch. Now that I have been at it a few months I am usually able to hold off or have a small snack between depending on how early I eat breakfast.

    There is an expression:
"Breakfast Like a King, Lunch Like a Prince, Dinner Like a Pauper".
Although, in the US, we tend to eat our largest meal last, eating a satisfying healthful meal to start your day and not stuffing yourself before bedtime makes a lot more sense. Your "tummy" probably knows this.

A Question on Snacks

I need snacks that I can snack on at work and not worry about going over. I work at a Bagel shop and the bagels are healthier than the sweets but that still is a matter of over doing it. What do you all do for quick snacks on the go?

    Try Packaged nuts such as Almonds. I find a small package with my water will satisfy the snack craving at the time. I feel for you working around food all the time. Good for you for avoiding the temptation and finding something else. Hang in there!

    I drink 2 -3 cups that are 32 oz's if water at work a day. Which is my 8 cups and than some. I don't drink pop and My work day starts at 7am at the latest the earliest is 4:30am. The earlier the better for me, when it comes to not being hungry at work. If I start at 7 I am not getting out of work until close to 5. I have my lunch break no later than 11:00 because we need everyone working, and not on break for lunch. I'm on my feet running around, I have a digital pedometer and I work over 2.5 miles a day at the store. There usually is no rest at work, so I am burning off a lot of what I ate for breakfast and on break quickly.

By the time we close at 4 the sweets are staring at me, to take since we either take them for ourselves or toss. I have to quickly toss or I will end up eating them. I don't have a lot of time to eat yogurt at work, because I don't have time to sit and snack on something, chances are I would open it and it would go bad because I would have to do something, and forget about it. It has happened.

The fruit cups at work I won't touch because we had to change it for the season, and it's full of fruit I don't like. =( The winter fruit cups I would eat all the time.

    Apples, Pistachios, Slim-Fast Bars, Sugar Snap Peas and Greek Yogurt are some of my favorites. The Greek yogurt seems more filling than other yogurt to me (and Chobani has several awesome flavors), but since yogurt also requires refrigeration it probably isn't as "on the go" as the other options. Kashi also makes some good granola bars, I like their TLC Dark Chocolate Coconut (it's 120 calories).

Although, 90% of the time when I think I'm hungry, I'm actually just thirsty, so I usually drink something before I grab for a snack.
