Today, I walked a 5k for MMRF Multiple Myeloma research. My boyfriend's father was diagnosed this past spring with it. I ended up walking the race in about 1:19:30. It was around Lake Phanlen and part of a path that wasn't around the lake. I was pretty happy with that. I fell behind the team of 30 but I have my own pace, and I can't walk as fast as some. (say b/f deary) but I don't care. I of course, did it and I'm proud of it. Ok, first Phanlen isn't hard to do and it's a nice walk I use to walk it with my cousin all the time. So it wasn't difficult. I mean more that I did the walk for something good today so that makes me proud.
The Team was called Tommy Tonn's Team and the goal was to raise 1,500 and our team actually raised 2,160 to go toward research to cure this cancer.
I know everyone talks about the walk for breast cancer and all those fundraisers. Those are VERY IMPORTANT ! but sometimes the other cancers I feel and I could be wrong kind of get forgotten until someone you know is diagnosed with it. So, I'm making it my goal next year to walk at least 5 different Cancer research walks. My entry fee for that walk will be worth it because every cent counts. I know there are NAMI walks, MMRF, Breast Cancer and I'm very sure I can find other ones. I remember when I was younger we did the Harvest walk which was for hunger and food shelves. Also very important these days. I am confident that I can find plenty of walks for causes to participate. I get a benefit too, =) as well as the programs doing this fundraiser.
Later on during the course of my day, I had to work. So 5 hours there on my feet and boy they hurt very bad. They are swollen with edema and just hurt like a SOB.
It was a chilly morning. I had a T-shirt on, a sweatshirt, and that T-shirt and I wished I had mittens or gloves to wear on my hands.
It says 1:30:29 but we didn't start the walk until 11 minutes.
