When will I learn the lesson?

Saturday, March 19, 2011

Oh my goodness!! When will I learn the lesson of you can't tell what you are eating my just looking at it when you are eating out. I went to Jason's Deli last night and got a muffaletta. I ate 1/4 for dinner last night and 1/4 for breakfast this morning. There was about 2 to 3 oz of turkey meat along with about 1 slice of provolone cheese on a bun. Of course, I figured the calories was high, but not 425 calories! Ok, I could have been ok with that but the Sodium was outrageous. The sodium in 1/4 of the muffaletta is 2,230 mg.! This 2 days of sodium for me considering, I am on a low-sodium diet. That's 2, 230 mg of sodium, not counting the rest of the sodium for the day.

I have had the same experience!! Isn't it amazing how much sodium they put in take out food??? I think you have learned the lesson by taking the steps to find out exactly what is in the sandwich. When I do that the thought of buying it again does not cross my mind. Now I buy my own ingredients to make something similar. Except I have bought low sodium, low fat choices for myself. What a difference that has made with my blood pressure!

I think you are doing great with making choices on portion size and checking on sodium levels!

Things have improved

Friday, March 18, 2011

I haven't had much time to blog lately or track food and exercise on Sparkpeople. Even though I have not had time to track, I have been eating sensibly. I am exercising more. I wear my pedometer and it keeps up with my steps. It keeps the reading for 7 days. Saturday, I had over 8000 steps by 3pm, a new high for me for the weekend. Even a a busy day on Saturday, I usually don't walk but 4000 steps. Today, I walked 10,745 steps. It is amazing how exercising can change your perspective. I was just thinking I had a wonderful day. However, a day like this in the past without exercise would have been a horrible day. It was a hectic and stressful day at work. It seems like the more I exercise the more energy I have. Days when I don't exercise. I come home from work tired and I don't to anything. Today, when I got home, I grilled turkey burgers and baby carrots. I create a new recipe for my turkey burgers which I named Salsa Burgers. I had energy to chop jalapenos, cilantro, tomatoes very fine. I have now lost 11 pounds. The weight is coming off slowly. I am not in a rush ' cause I want to learn to eat better and take care of my body. emoticon

I need to Exercise!

Thursday, February 03, 2011

I don't like to exercise inside. I prefer to be outside. I enjoy walking. However, it has been so cold lately. I am going to have to incorporate indoor exercise if I want to continue to lose weight. emoticon

I can almost empathize. I don't like to exercise.Inside or outside! I too am a heart patient (hate to even say those words). However, I know that exercise is a necessity. Weight does not come off of my frame readily. But with perseverance it will. I wish you good results and better health!

My goals will not change

Monday, January 31, 2011

It has been a week since I was in the hospital. I am nervous about what's next. I will be going to primary doctor on Wednesday and to the cardiologist a week from today. I am not feeling my best, however I continued my walking today. The doctor said it was ok for me to do it. I Despite what I am going through now, my goals will not change. I am working to change my lifestyle. I will continue to change my eating habits. I will continue to exercise.

One step forward, two steps back

Saturday, January 08, 2011

I had a stressful, frustrating day at work yesterday. I cried, I complained. When I got home. I was so stressed until my back hurt. I told my husband to go and get me some Church's fried chicken. I could have gnawed up the world. This is a feeling that I have trouble controlling. I do myself in with it. emoticon

Today is a new day. Dealing with serious pain is a great challenge for me as well. I am working on reducing the back discomfort as well as finding other outlets for my frustrations. The goal does seem far away but setting short term goals along the path to the ultimate goal helps keep focused. Start each day with the desire to draw closer to the healthier life you desire.
