Having a summer without a TV or radio was strange. After a while, I didn't miss all the bad news and commercials that we are inundated with day after day. I set an alert on my phone for weather warnings, but for the most part remained peacefully oblivious of what the media considered news worthy. Instead, I worked (HARD) and took some time to reconnect with old friends. Overall it was a time of refreshing for me.
What I did miss was not having an internet connection. The local library closed one week after I arrived in early April for a 30 day remodel. It would more than double the space in the small library. It never reopened before I left (although it looked great when I peeked through the window when I chose to walk downtown). That meant that I had to drive to the next closest town and hope that the internet was up at that local library, the McDonalds, or the coffee shop where I met with the "girls" weekly. By the time I did the things online that I had to there wasn't much me time left. I missed being able to pop onto the SparkPeople site and checking in. I REALLY MISSED being able to participate in the 5% challenges. They did so much to help me keep accountable. I could only wait for the next one to start when I got home and back online. Now it is finally here and I am ready to get started again.
If you have never participated in a 5% challenge, check it out at
You can read the first two topics under the general discussion to get more information, and if you are like me, you will jump at the chance to have fun while working on that healthier lifestyle goal that you want for yourself.
It's going to be a blast!!!!!!

After driving for 18 hours, we have finally arrived back home in valley for a few days. Life has been decidedly different for the past few months. I am so glad to be home. I’m just sorry to say that after hubby’s doctor appointments we will be leaving and heading back.
As some of you may recall, we went to Kansas to demo the double wide trailer there. What we didn’t expect was freezing rain and winter weather in April and snow on the first of May. We moved to avoid the cold, winter weather. We also had promises of help, most of which didn’t pan out. So instead we had two people in their 60s demolishing a double wide trailer --- piece by piece.
I must admit that I am so thankful to be back in Texas. I didn’t realize how much I would appreciate running water, climate control and my microwave. We parked our camper in our 3-Bay garage to give us some protection from the elements. We have been staying in our motorcycle camper … a queen sized bed with a dressing area in front of the bed. We had heat during the cold and now an air conditioner to escape the heat.
Although we have been told that we are roughing it, we did have our own version of our bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom.
---Our bedroom from the outside
---Our Living Room
---Our kitchen ... Thanks M.E. & James for the refrigerator!
We worked out an agreement with the young lady that rents our other building, so we could take a shower at the end of the work day. I am also grateful to her for offering to let me use her washer and dryer, allowing me to spend more time with friends on Sunday, our only day off.
When we return, I suspect that we still have another 3 weeks or more before we have the demo project completed. Then we will be laying linoleum and doing some minor repairs to the other building. We also plan out the garage as a workshop. In the meantime, I will enjoy the next few days at home and endeavor to be back by my birthday in August.
Probably the hardest thing I had to deal with was No Internet. The local public library closed a week after we got there to be remodeled. It was supposed to open in approximately 30 days. Unfortunately, it still wasn't open when we left for Texas, but when it does, the library will be three times as large as the old one. I have missed Sparking.
So I will enjoy all the modern conveniences for the next few days until we head back north to complete our projects!
