It's time to get back on the horse!

It's March 1st. Things have settled down a bit here so it's time to start focusing on fitness. This time it's hopefully going to be a family effort. The focus will be on exercising daily, logging our food intake, and getting enough water.

Stress has been a huge factor of late and it has no doubt caused bad habits to re-occur. I hope to try again for a daily blog, but if it doesn't happen...oh well.

I think we'll try to do a "starting weigh in" tonite!

    I know life kind of gets in the way of our best efforts at nutrition and fitness but the attitude I have adopted as of late is a 'do WHAT you can WHEN you can' and try not to stress about what doesn't happen. Best wishes to you Penny!

Well, Hello New Year!

It's been 5 months since I posted a blog entry. Last one was the last day of P90X. I loved P90X, but ran into a bit of a snag. The last post was also the first day of school.

I lost my momentum. My entire daily routine changed and I fell out of my exercise routine. I didn't actually STOP exercising, I just did not stay as focused as I should have. I also wasn't losing weight, and while I felt GREAT, not seeing any movement in the scale was admittedly discouraging.

No big resolutions for the New Year. I'm going to start slowly working on small goals and work my way up to finding a routine that can not be shattered because of school vacations or family vacations or work or what have you.

I've decided that the dogs MUST HAVE a daily walk. This goal is non-negotiable. I'm going to look at this one as something that needs to b done for them and hopefully I reap the benefits.

I am going to tackle my house. I just can't live in this chaos any longer. More organizing, more help from family and hopefully some bigger projects like painting, tile cleaning and carpet replacement.

We are going to get our 401K's in order. We have given ourselves until the end of January to do this.

I'm going to try to keep relatively calm throughout the everyday stressors. Autism and all it brings with it. Homework with a teenager. Work - in which I manage to expend 8 hours worth of energy into a 4.5 hour period.

So... 2011...here I come. I'd love to drop 30 lbs this year, but it can't be the focus of my life because when that happens, everything else suffers.

I am going to try to blog more for my own sake to see what obstacles get in my way.

    Sounds like you've got a lot to juggle.

I'm a big fan of small goals (whether or not you call them babysteps). So here's to letting our canine companions motivate us to get moving and then squeezing in whatever else we can.

    I'm also working on getting some kind of routine going that won't get blown out of the water come summer vacation. Biggest Loser makes it look so easy ... you eat healthy, you exercise, you lose weight. But that's not real, messy life. You just can't do that when you're working around kids, a house, a hubby, work. So you do what YOU are doing ... change what you can, do what you can, and see what happens :) Good luck and best wishes to you, Penny! And have fun walking the dogs ... wish I could walk Butterscotch but she's the stupidest dog ever and manages to choke herself on a leash, lol!

P90X Phase 3 Week 11 (Day 72) Shoulders & Arms + Ab Ripper X

I'm back!!! Ok... The last week and a half was a bust. I traveled, I was preparing for the beginning of school. I decided not to worry about the added stress of fitting in an hour or hour and a half of exercise.

I started back up today right where I left off. I was very surprised at how much muscle strength I lost so quickly. I had to use lighter weight and/or fewer reps. It was a little disconcerting!

I am going to start back on logging my foods again and hope that I can get a good reading on why I'm not losing weight. I hover between the same 2 lbs and have for months. I really wanted to be close to my goal weight by now.

So onward and upward. Rome wasn't built in a day, I suppose.

What an off week. I have to say it seems like I'm going to put this week to bed and call a do-over next week. I'm trying not to feel too guilty about this, but I just have not felt well enough this week to push the Extremeness of P90X.

I did my Plyo on Sunday. Monday I took off. Tuesday was Yoga day, however; I just did not have 90 minutes of Yoga in me. I just knew it. I DID do 40 continuous minutes in the pool, so it certainly wasn't a loss.

Today, again, I just did not have the energy for any kind of strength training, but I did play 45 hard minutes of racquetball...so again, not a loss.

Tomorrow is Kenpo X and I won't put that off because my husband gave me an early birthday present today! A fancy new Heart Rate Monitor! I'm excited to see just how hard I'm bringing it!

Friday we are off for the weekend for a last hurrah before school starts. I think we'll end up doing some nice hiking...so I'll get some workout in, just not my P90X.

Kind of disappointed I got off track, but I have to listen to my body, and my body said "take a break".

Next week I'll do Week 11 over and push out my "90" days a week. After all, this is a long term effort.

    I agree 100% with Maryellen :) Sometimes you just have to take a break and mix it up a little bit. Overdoing is never going to do you any good...I'm glad that you're so in tune with your body and know your limits and are willing to work around them :) Kudos to you, Penny!

    You're right. You have to listen to your body and it wasn't like you sat around eating bon-bons. You still were active, so I'd consider it just a change for this week.

Like you said, it's a long-term effort. You go girl!

P90X Phase 3 Week 10 (Day 68) Kenpo X - even sick

Yesterday I woke up fluish. I was disappointed (and relieved) to take the day off from P90X. I figured I'd make it up on my rest day, Friday.

Unfortunately, today I didn't feel much better. But missing another day wasn't an option. So I toughed out Kenpo X, albeit much slower and easier. I took my time. I did my best and forgot the rest!!

Now, I feel MUCH worse, but I can just rest and relax for the rest of the evening. Hopefully I killed a few bugs by at least getting my heart rate up for a bit.

    No worries there Jen. My big plans of working out today came to a screeching halt. I had a butt load of work to do, so stayed later at the office and knew that P90X was just not smart option. I came home, went in the pool for about 20 minutes and called it a day. Let's hope I get some energy back for the weekend....sigh.

    Sorry you're not feeling well, Penny :( Hope it clears itself out quickly.
Try not to overdo it with the exercise though...overexerting yourself when you're sick may use up the energy your body needs to fight off the virus/germs and thus make it take longer to get better.
