All or nothing

Sunday, January 17, 2010

I used to tend toward "all or nothing" thinking. If I couldn't get all of my 8 glasses of water in, I'd not want to log in any. If I couldn't get my 7 hours of sleep in, I didn't want to log in the 5 hours I actually got. If I didn't get the full amount of protein I needed, I'd think, "so what" instead of thinking "how can I add enough protein to my day's menus? Now that I've been on Sparkpeople long enough to really be enthusiastic and have reached the stage of maintenance, I've quit the "all or nothing" thinking. If I can't get all of my two mile a day walk in, I still get in as much walking as I can, log it on Sparkpeople and am amazed at how many miles I can cover in a month. Each day is a new opportunity to go from doing nothing to reaching a goal.

    That's a GREAT attitude Peggy!
You've reached your goal but keep on tracking food & exercise, it keeps us healthy!

The Spark

Sunday, January 10, 2010

I just finished reading THE SPARK and it is one of the most inspirational books I've ever read.
Even though I've been an SP member for three years, I learned some new things and things I already knew were reinforced. I loved the way it was organized and I'll be referring to it often to look up ideas, recipes, etc. Reading it made me realize what a great group of people I'm part of as a successful Sparkpeople member. emoticon

I loved the book! It is a gift from a very caring soul, Chris Downie. He really cares about people, and I am so grateful for this site. Were it not for this place, I would still be carrying around 50 lbs I don't need. I am healthier and happier.

Love my dear friends here too! I would never have met all these lovely people were it not for this place.

I just received my copy on Friday. I started reading it yesterday. I am a relatively new member but I think SP is absolutely awesome! I am glad the book is living up to all of the good press.

I'm reading mine now, going slow ~ I especially like the fact that it is at my fingertips, to be picked up and reread over and over and over! It is a book we won't get tired of, that's for sure!

Yes, I'm a happy camper with SparkPeople, can't imagine what I did before joining here! So much info, encouragement, support and the friends ~ oh the friendships are just awesome!

Glad you wrote this blog, it gave me a place to shout too emoticon

Three years with Sparkpeople

Tuesday, December 01, 2009

Today's my three-year anniversary with Sparkpeople and I'm overjoyed with the results of this three-year journey. Just like most people, I've had ups and downs, but have managed to stay at my goal for two years now and have formed some very good habits. I'm walking a lot more than I used to. I'm doing yoga for 30 min. each morning. I'm Jazzercising 3 days a week. I'm eating healthier than ever, even restricting salt intake to keep my blood pressure under control. I'm an illustration of the falsity of the saying, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks." I'll be 79 in March and I've learned lots of new tricks from Sparkpeople. Thanks Sparkpeople for a new lease on life!

Back on Track

Thursday, February 12, 2009

A visit out of town for a week threw me off schedule. I ate more than usual and didn't exercise.
Now I'm back home and am buckling down to take off the pound I gained that week. I'll have free soup (tomato cabbage soup) for supper each day till I am back at my goal. Sparkpeople has become my conscience. I try to be honest when I get off track and get back on immediately. emoticon
